Barkley
He was in the process of deciding his course of action when the myriad of daylight spells coalesced into view. His eyes immediately widened beneath his mask, both in response to the sudden burst of light as well as in reaction to the monstrous elemental who could now clearly sense his presence, arching its back and threatening to direct its ongoing rampage in his direction. On some instinctive level, he knew that he should be feeling a sense of fear at the turn of events, but for better or worse he was still suffering the euphoric after-effects that always came with the activation of his draconic genes. Whether it was a side effect of his body directly consuming and feeding upon magical essences, or simply the result of the nearly-invulnerable creature's cells stirring within him, all sense of fear and similar loss of morale had presently vanished from his mind. In its place was a stillness, calm and collected, as if the entire battlefield was something he had viewed for a thousand years, and as if its enemy occupants were mere numbers who could be tallied, factored, and - ultimately - ignored.

He acknowledged Ivan's shout for aid with a cold nod, dipping his halberd slightly at the elemental in order to draw its attention. He then began to walk with an eerie calm a few paces to his left, away from the melee and approaching the wall. This seemed to draw the elemental's attention, if ever so slightly, and Barkley noted that with a smirk behind his mask. When he reached the wall, he turned on his heel, looking the elemental in the eyes (or what passed for them), and then looked pointedly to his shoulder, where the patch of the adventuring and mercenary charter he had registered with Cormyrean authorities was prominently displayed (as required by local law). The symbol was a clenched iron gauntlet, with wording below in the Chondathan dialect of common etched in silver thread, 'The Hard Man'. The symbol bore some similarity to the holy symbols of Torm and Helm, he knew, though only a passing one that certainly wouldn't be mistaken for the real thing by anyone familiar with such iconography.

His eyes shifted away from the patch, and back to the gaze of the elemental, where they lingered for a few tense moments as he took the measure of his opponent. When he had satisfied himself, although he had his doubts as to whether the creature could speak the language, he made a rebuke in Chondathan common, stating, "You don't have what it takes, rock man. You're hard as stone..."

In the blink of an eye he kicked off the side of the wall, flipping head-over-heels in order to maneuver the tip of his halberd into an extremely atypical position for a strike: directly beneath the legs of the creature. As he continued his flip, he righted himself in the air, ripping the halberd up and through what would pass for its spine, slicing cleanly through the elemental. Where the blows of Ivan, Marcon, and the others had previously been deflected by the resilience of the stone, his blade cut through the rock like butter, barely even making a sound as it gutted the creature and only the slightest 'whoosh' when its head split in two as the blade freed itself from the now-shattered stone.

Landing on the ground in a flanking position opposite Ivan with perfect balance and poise, he finished his statement, "...but I'm harder than steel."

Finding that the man is still alive, he calls out to Dina, as well as Anciano, suggesting, "He is still alive. He nods in appreciation as the paladin begins to salvage the life of the priest, while at the same time verbally agreeing with Ivan, "You're right, we need to press onward, and there's no time to spare interrogating him at the moment." Quickly scanning the cleric's wounds, he continues, "Although his injuries are severe, he is only one or two healing enchantments away from being back on his feet and ready to exact his revenge. If a competent acolyte is hiding nearby, that could be a problem."

Taking a few moments, he wipes the blood and wet clay off the blade of his halberd before sheathing it on his back, soon thereafter drawing his polished silver warhammer from the belt loop where it had been been hanging. When Dina's administration of first aid concluded, he follows it up with a carefully aimed strike to the left side of the man's chest - far enough away from the heart to prevent immediate death, instead positioned to collapse one of his lungs almost instantly with the concussive force. After the fact, he comments, "He'll live, but it will take some fairly serious magic to get him into any particularly threatening state now."

Temple of Mystra, Lower Temple - Day

As Barkley's blow finds a fused section in the center of the elemental, destruction of which causes it to collapse, Dina and Ivan both execute brutal blows that end with their opponents in multiple pieces. As the rubble finishes falling and those nearby try to dodge the spray of blood from Ivan's kill, silence falls once again on the area, leaving you with just the glowing statue and doors to the North, West, and South. The room to the south seems to have four comfortable looking chairs arranged around a solid wood table.

Barkley and Dina spring into action quickly though, keeping Starweaver Fembrys alive, if thoroughly unconscious. While the paladin is healing him, she does notice that he carries a holy symbol of Mystra.

The statue seems to be emitting light of about the same brightness of a lantern, and especially lighting up the spaces next to it.

Although he doesn't currently bother to take the time to remove the full plate from the cleric, he takes away the remainder of the man's equipment, and then begins to sift through the ...pool... of remains of the other two guards. A little under a minute later, he emerges from the piles of entrails and other assorted viscera with a number of trinkets in hand, proclaiming to the group: "All right, looks like a potion or two survived the melee. If anyone wants to brave drinking them, I imagine they're probably good for what ails you."

As well, he places the rest of the gear on the stairway, away from the majority of the blood and carnage, requesting of Marcon and Anciano, "I imagine some of this is enchanted. Any idea what some of the choicer materials might be? None of the weapon or armor seems to be well-crafted, so I suppose those are out."

Raising an eyebrow at the literally sundered suit of banded mail where a person used to live, he comments to Ivan, "You know, those are kind of expensive."

Temple of Mystra, Lower Temple - Day

Quickly, the party busies themselves with various tasks: Marcon with repairing Ishmael and loading up various gear lying around, as well as looking over those scrolls; Ishmael with healing those that need it; and Dina with looking over the the rubble, quickly realizing it's a lot of smashed statuary, burned books and broken vessels dedicated to Mystra. Meanwhile, Barkley decides to poke around the room, opening the adjoining doors.

T18: The shelves throughout this room are stuffed with tomes and scrolls, but they are kept in no particular order - they are piled in heaps, and as many lie on the floor as remain on the shelves.

T19: Already described.

T20: A thin layer of dust covers a rumpled bed, an open wardrobe filled with hanging robes, and a desk.

T21, Used one of Fembrys' keys: This bedroom, in addition to a neat bed, bureau, and desk, contains eight human heads mounted on the wall like trophies. Glass eyes stare from their yellowed flesh, and the acrid odor of preservative hangs in the air. A long table stands against the south wall, next to a large, upright wooden cabinet.

T22: It's a privy. An extremely foul-smelling one, at that.

T25: Statues flank a central path down this wide hall. They look quite familiar, as they're more of those obsidian one that you saw on the landing.

Hallway leading south: It's a hallway leading south.

As an arbitrary number in case you run into something, I'm going to say Ishmael used 4 charges on each of Xerxes, Barkley, and Ivan. Not going to roll at the moment in case Fappo gets back and wants to change that up, but this is a notation on the off chance you wander into a fight before he returns. Not rolling at the moment for similar reasons, but if the dice give someone truly terrible healing, I'll probably expend more.

After giving the man a pat on the head, he then pulls fifty feet of hemp rope out of his backpack, and begins to 'secure' the Ivan-Fembrys, intent on using the hostage as a bargaining chip when next he kicks down a door.

Finished with his healing, he turns to Barkley to see another bad idea in the making. "You know, it might be more effective to have Ivan use you as a false prisoner, if that's your plan. Assuming Fembrys' keys don't work on a given door, Ivan can likely demand entry without arousing suspicion. Or, if we want to be really clever today, Ivan could take a trip to Fembrys' chambers, wherever they are, and see if he has additional keys there, or perhaps some incriminating documents. Of course, I would say at this point that we have solid evidence of wrongdoing sufficient enough to warrant response from the Purple Dragons. Unlawful magical experiments conducted on citizens are generally frowned on in most cities. So, I propose we collect the body of one of the guards, preferably not the one Ivan was engaged with, wrap it up, and head to the local guard station. Naturally, we would present the body after explaining the situation. This infiltration, if we can even still call it that, has gone on quite long enough, and it's high time we made our exit."

If we leave, they will be gone before we return, and if they have any captives I fear they will be too much trouble to take along."

The artificer frowns. "Unfortunately, I doubt they'll trust 'Fembrys' enough to let all of us accompany him further into the building or care enough for his life that holding him prisoner will give us much leverage either. Perhaps a single prisoner to help Ivan hold the doorway until the rest of us arrive?"

Anciano

Sighing, Anciano relents. "You may have a point, but I can't say I'm enthused about turning an investigation into a bloodbath. Though I suppose Ivan took care of that already." He tilts his head back towards where Ivan had been fighting, though he avoids looking at the grisly remains. "So, as for who should accompany Ivan on this scouting mission, Xerxes is small enough that he can likely remain unnoticed if he shadows him. As for a false prisoner, I'll volunteer. He's proven he can handle himself in a fight, but there's no telling what he may encounter in terms of traps or barriers, so my diverse array of talents may prove necessary."

He goes about untying the Ivan-Fembrys as the two other men debate the best course of action, handing the rope to Anciano when all of the knots had been sufficiently loosened. On the subject of who should go on ahead, he chimes in using a whispered voice, "That makes sense. We can wait around the corner or somewhere similarly out of sight, but within reach if things go foul."

In so saying, he takes up a position outside the door to the statue-lined hallway, waiting for Anciano and Ivan to give it the all-clear for traps and other impediments, while motioning to the others to hide out of line of sight of the doorway as well.

Ivan

After an uncomfortable silence between the two men drags on Ivan says, "Oh for fucks sake," and goes through the door on his own, without waiting on the others to follow.

Temple of Mystra, Lower Temple - Day

At the urging of those encouraging haste, while still cautiously peering around the open door, Ivan throws aside caution and advances straight into the statue lined hallway to the next door, much to the wincing of those apparently expecting some sort of trap. Trying the handle and finding it locked, he immediately begins trying the keys that Fembrys was holding, only for it to hit a wire hidden in the lock. With a loud call of "Whoops!", Ivan goes about trying the other two. For those looking on and expecting something horrible to happen, they instead simply hear an extremely loud gong ringing from beyond the door.

Ivan, finding none of the keys working, switches to Plan B and begins simply battering the door down with various parts of his body instead.

Meanwhile, Ishmael begins investigating the rooms that the party had merely looked in, starting with the one Barkley had only looked in as briefly as possible. Having no sense of smell helped, occasionally. Of course dragging Xerxes, with his excellent sense of smell, along with him probably wasn't the nicest plan, but at least nothing would be jumping them!

Quornes set off an extremely loud alarm trap and is currently beating down the door. Since this will take roughly a round or two, giving a chance for others to do something before moving on. Will likely update again tomorrow regardless.

Marcon bel Tern

Marcon moves forward behind Ivan, bow at the ready. The disguise won't fool anyone for long now that he's started pounding his way through the door.

Anciano shakes his head and makes a quick prayer to Mystra. "O, grant me the patience of a ritualist." He sets about investigating the area around where Ivan is attempting to break through the door, looking for anything in the room that could be used to create a tactical advantage in the inevitable melee.

(Searching the room with a boost from Cunning Knowledge, trying to find anything that could be used to make enemies' lives more difficult in a combat situation. Actual items would work, but so would, say, a rope holding up a chandelier, containers of lamp oil, and so on. Anything we could get creative with to hurt dudes. Result is 32.)

Xerxes flies up to where he can get a good view of the door, and anything that might end up on the other side of it, while hopefully being out of view of any likely hostiles.

Temple of Mystra, Lower Temple - Day

With a splintering crash Ivan tears through the door, full monstrous form on display. Before them lies yet another room with doors, and an even more impressive feature. Three single doors lie to the left, with a pair of double doors to the right. Straight ahead though, in the middle of the far wall, is a huge circular black disc, bordered by deep purple stone.

Ivan is not particularly in a place to appreciate this though, as he immediately takes two arrow from yet more of those guards standing on the far side of the room. Between them and him though, are three serpents. Covered with luxurious blue-black scales striped with bright violet, it hurts your eyes to even look at them.

Ivan takes 7 damage.
