Lila Skye, Councillor from the Free City of Hyderia

"There are many ways to contribute, Mother Superior," Lila says, with a carefully balanced smile and a positive tone. "Supplies and repair facilities, for instance. There is enough work to go round, and we look forward to working with you."

Diplomatic Missions

Hyderia will seek to create, and receive, Trade Missions with all interested parties on the following terms:

quote:

  • The Trade Mission will be under the authority of Hyderian Trade Minister. Both the Minister and staff shall be afforded all Ambassadorial courtesies.
  • The Mission structure and grounds shall be considered sovereign Hyderian territory and governed by the laws of Hyderia.
  • Free and secure access to the Trade Mission shall be guaranteed by the host nation.
  • The Mission shall be allowed a protective force not to exceed fifty men.
  • Such other terms as the parties may agree to.

Hyderia accepts the enchantment of its mission with the Illumarchy. It offers in exchange a reasonable rate at a building in the Trade District, suitable for use as the Illumarchy's own Embassy.

Trade Deals
Academics in the Free City are acutely aware of their deficiencies in terms of Magic, and welcome a delegation of experts from the Illumarchy of Fenadesh, along with their books, tomes and artifacts on Advanced Magic. In exchange, Hyderia has dispatched a team of its engineers and scientists, along with a prototype of its new steam engine and a few other pieces of Advanced Tech, for the Illumarchy to study - and perhaps collaborate on!

The mood in Verisanga notably improves as the promised writs of parenthood are distributed thanks to the kind donations of the Fenadesh. A few sisters send letters of thanks. Meanwhile; Verisanga concludes negotiations of another cultural ambassador exchange after a minor debate on the meaning and context of the term "fungus". Delicate negotiations on ambassador exchange continue with the Hyderia, in hopes of resuming peaceful relations and easing the tensions between the nations. Mother Alma Arajums loudly reiterates her position on Hyderia in a number of aggressive sermons.

1. The Queendom and The Matriarchy formally exchange ambassadors.

Gwynivette collects her things, throws a mildly lackadaisical wave at her fellow councilors and retreats from the Council. She was eager to return home, eager to report. She couldn'T have called this the most productive Red Chainday. But it was their first and, in all fairness, the other Mysters would be delighted to find that so many other nations shared Vonicci's concern for overly broad regulation. No one was eager to see they're hard won nations folded back into the needy embrace of some central power. It was why Vonicci had agreed to appear in the first place. Gwyn's unspoken mandate was to sabotage the sorts of bills that would make her people rise up in violent revolt. And other failures aside, it would take some time to explain why Caleb was deemed "unsuitable" for the board of advisors, she had at least succeeded in her most important goal. Keep the fragile peace. Not the continent's. No. That would tend to itself. Vonicci's internal peace was what weighed heavy on her mind.

Powder kegs have a tendency to explode. And the other councilors wondered why Gwynivette was uncomfortable watching them play with fire. Her people barely tolerated local authority...

A Season of Trades!

Vonicci has agreed to export pure cosmic dust to the Noble Fenadeshi in exchange for warding and containment field technology.

Vonicci has begun to discreetly export high quality medicine in regular medium sized shipments to the Matriarchy exchange for a regiment of well trained necromancers.

Vonicci has accepted ambassadors from Fenadesh, Hyderia, Verisanga and the Trismegistus. We send ambassadors to all these nation in return and remain willing to trade representatives with any and all other nation.

Our ambassadors are trained by and report to Myster Prince. He is the second richest man in Vonicci and the head of the most prominent crime family. He is an older figure we'll known for his charisma and personal gravitas, he has traveled extensively and is typically utilized as chief diplomat of Vonicci. Many were confused and disturbed he was not selected for the role of councilor. This has much to do with the machinations of Myster Roy - the richest man in Vonicci having inherited his father's tremendous fortune. He is an immature and petty playboy who enjoys a one sided rivalry with Myster Prince and more regional authority amoung the Mysters than he deserves.

Note: The terms of this cultural exchange outline it takes effect next season. Order Sarkangalva is stretched a bit thin at the moment, and we need some of her best minds at home for blight stone research.

The League of Makeo

When you live on the water front, no one really talks about drought. Being situated on the west side of the mountains, the League of Makeo was used to stormy skies dominating Sew, skies that forced ships to cling close to land but kept the jungles’ thirst slaked and the local fruits plentiful. That was not the case this year, the rivers ran low and the banks baked and cracked like clay under the constant beating of the sun. As food grew scarcer, the local animals grew more bold, caravans between the townships dotting the countryside reported animal attacks increasingly commonly.

That was just the effect on the wilderness, the effect on the Leaguers was much more pronounced. Hot days lead to hot tempers, in the bigger ports clashes between crews turned into sudden gun fights. With food becoming scarcer, some of the Shareek had taken to attacking the softer races on the shore, feeding frenzies leaving scattered bones, scraps of cloth, and little else in the dark corners and back alleys of the ports. The transient population drifted south, ships finding business in other ports and bringing back food at a markup. Groups of less fortunate crews were banding together, looking enviously at the food stores of the more established groups. Civil unrest was the background noise of League living, but this threatened to hurt the League’s bottom line and compromise their position in the still newly minted Council.

Well, this kind of thing was why the position of Councilor had been created. The Admirals might circle the wagons to keep from hemorrhaging Captains just before someone decided to take a shot at them, but as Councilor Levi had only her own ship and the health of the League as a whole to consider. A veteran adventurer in her youth, Levi did what came naturally … she looked for solutions beyond the horizon.

And from the capital city of Tauq secret messengers rode off on horseback to deliver the edict to every town and province in the Nation. The Hot Sew Season had proven disastrous for Vonicci's friend and ideological ally Makeo. In most circumstances Vonicci and her people would fret almost not at all over the beleaguerment of some foreign state. Makeo, however, was far too close to home. Vonicci sailors spent enough time in the cheif ports of Makeo to consider it home away from home. Many had friends. Some had families. A select few even owned businesses across the border. And as Makean shipping crews began to go rogue from hunger, while Makean cities lost their least advantaged to starvation, the people of Vonicci experienced the real suffering and chaos of that famine. It was no longer really "some other nation's" problem. And when the council of Mysters convened, it was agreed that something had to be done. Was it a moral imperative? Or merely shrewd business? Different Mysters would have their own rationales for voting, but the vote was cast that day unanimously.

Makeo had asked for supplemental food stock, only what could be spared. They would be receiving a bounty of produce fit for royalty. Never let it be said the Plutocracy didn't care for its fellows. The Mysters had authorized regular shipments of non-perishables to be distributed to the Makean government by cargo vessel, delivered to four major ports spanning the geographic range of their nation. Not stopping there however, Vonicci had agreed amoung it's leaders to also ship the full crop of more than twenty five very successful farms in the south of Vonicci. Makeo would be receiving garden fresh kale, squash, pumpkin, cauliflower, blackberries, apples, peaches, wheat, bulgar, artichoke, tomatoes, cucumber, rice, beans and potatoes; and flavorful herbs for the cooking of all these delicacies. Lentils, most especially. The surplus in Vonicci of lentils would be low this year but the Vonicci would still be far from hunger and lentils would keep Hyderian sailors strong and able.

It was agreed by all, save Myster Roy, that these fresh food stocks could be spared for the full length of the year, maintaining Makean morale, population and good will until the next Red Chain Day. Shipping would begin immediately and stay constant through the year after which the shipments would be consolidated to the surpluses of twelve farms and what non-perishables were in reliable surplus. There was some serious argument about whether to accept cannon techology or Blight Stone as a return for this service. Some Mysters voted to demand both. The final die was cast, coincidentally, by Gwynivette, whose interest in modernization and familiarity with the subtle politics of the continental council compelled her to vote in favor of cannons, and only cannons. She believed the favorable reputation earned from this gesture of good will would earn Vonicci more bargaining power within the council. A long term investment she believed would pay admirable dividends. The option of adapting this cannon technology to border and trade security was not lost on her either.

In Summary:

As I understand each resource can be traded twice without depriving ones own nation of it. Vonicci will be sending both of our tradeable Vegetation resources to Makeo for the course of the year. After the next Sew Season we'll reduce that to one point of the resource. In the meantime we plan to keep Makeo stunningly well fed during this year in exchange for cannon technology.

Edit: Embarassingly I used the wrong name in the whole of this post. It was intended as a response to the League of Makeo. Thats fixed now but I do wish to apologize formally to Hyderia for the confusion.

Hyderia

In this time of poor growing, Hyderia seems to have come into a surplus of Vegetation! So much, in fact, the city's warehouses overflow, and there's only so much traditional Hyderian Hummus one can make. The city's traders seek export opportunities for the grain, oats and other tasty veggies. (As a bonus, buy one shipload, get a free copy of the Free City Cookbook!)

Will trade on one of the Vegitation from Vonicci to anybody interested. I'd sift through but I'm about to get on a plane.
