Instead of trying to shoehorn a woman or black man into a pretty well defined role, why not just make a female/black superspy? Or do you think a woman or black man alone isn't strong enough to carry the role and needs to rely on the 007 history to carry them? I think that would be the case if they just really relied on sex appeal or tried to "black it up", but if they just let the actor do their thing they wouldn't need the trappings of Bond to have a good film. They did it with Bourne and they could do it again.

His relationship with Detta Walker who has a compulsive hatred of white people. On the other hand, the whole OTT "oh lawdy lawd ain't dat de troof" way of talking probably won't fly these days. They might reverse it and cast a white woman as Susannah/Detta. But I hope not. The truth is Idris Elba has the charisma and presence for Roland and outside of Viggo Mortinson I could not think of anyone better. Race be-damned

They did it with Bourne and they could do it again. About 15-20 years ago there was a lot of talk about Michelle Yeoh or Halle Berry getting a spin-off Bond films based on their characters in the Brosnan-era but none of that ever materialized. If they'd come out in the last 3-4 years, though, I'm sure Sony/MGM would have plans go forward with those characters getting solo films and/or announcing plans of building a big shared Bond universe franchise of films that would feature them. Honestly, if and when Bond reboots the next time, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they didn't come up with a plan to do a global spy shared universe not only to diversity their films but to also maybe lessen their reliance on a single lead performer and let them supplement the huge spectacle Bond films with some more affordable shared universe ones that could use some of the same IP assets. Even in the 90s there a LOT of talk for quite a while that WB was considering a Catwoman spin-off with Pfeiffer reprising her role but nothing came of that, either. The latter is sort of funny because I remember in the 90s a sort of running comment about Batman Returns by fans was "They should have just called that movie "Catwoman" because she seems to be the main character for most of the film."

Spy movies died the same death as westerns. They are played the gently caress out. Speaking of westerns, remember when they decided to remake The Lone Ranger and instead of doing the smart thing and casting a black dude to play the lone ranger (since the actual dude that the character was based on was a for real black fella,) they decided to make the movie all about Johnny Depp playing Tonto in his normal fuckwit fashion. How much money did that one lose again?
