Update 33

Update 33 Video

We're back with the first updates from our new setup, and as we get started it turns out that a BUNCH of character specific quests open up right before the end of the game. A lot of them showcase characters who we might not otherwise use and provide little bits of plot and character development, so they're actually usually worth doing. There's also a question of how many we can do after the last set of levels, so let's buckle up.

Update 34 Video

Today we're going ahead with some side-questing, and after that we need to break it up to let the side quests move forward. So to that end, we're going to push a bit forward with the story to keep things moving right along. It'll also help us not forget what we're doing with the main plot, since that's a very real risk at the end of any Dragon Quest game.

Update 35 Video

We're back again this week, and you're not seeing things: technical difficulties with recording and save slots mean that we're going back through the tunnels into Arba Castle. Afterwards we're going a different route and following up on Nera and Bianca's story, taking a break to head back into The Fault in search of a powerful weapon. As always, the real route to power is the side quest rather than the main quest.

Scalding Coffee posted:

Could be a bit of column A and a bit of Column B. The recording on the new setup is actually much lower latency since we're using a capture device rather than streaming and cutting it up later.

I can confirm that this is not a thing that happens, thankfully. Having played a healer in an MMO before I want nothing to do with trying to keep this group of chuckle-heads alive.

Update 36

Today we're out of other options with out current party, so we'll just go ahead and actually progress the main story. We've got to first secure the castle and then head into the town to rescue some of the citizens, even though some of them seem as though they should be able to rescue themselves. Granny with the big ol' cast-iron skillet, I'm looking at you. Along the way we encountered some tech- excuse me, tentacle difficulties, but nothing that presented a great interruption so we rolled with it.

Update 37 Video

We've still got a lot of the town of Arba ahead of us, and this place is HUGE. It pretty much incorporates all of the mechanics we've learned so far, and there are swarms of enemies all over the place. Once we prevail (because of course we will) the next scenes seem to indicate that we're right before the final levels of the main story. So... we're headed straight to sidequest-ville. Which will happen next time.

Scalding Coffee posted:

Pretty sure the next Tension upgrade comes with the main storyline, but we'll see when we get there. The last one was, which raises the interesting question of what happens if you skip the first two upgrades and just continue with the main quest...

Glazius posted:

Sadly, weapons don't really have procs. It's just a matter of sheer attack power. Armor, in the form of orbs, have some interesting effects, but for weapons it's really a matter of which weapon has the biggest number. Erdrick's Sword and the Zenithian Sword have equal attack power, making them the second strongest weapons in the game for Luceus and Aurora. The next step up is the Metal King Sword, and that's a bit more difficult to get.

The quests are only getting more ridiculous, as we're now committing monster genocide in order to get flowers for a bridal bouquet. Luceus's mind gets blown by the possibilities of two women only needing one bouquet, and then after a side trip to get a new shield that's not as good as the metal king shield we bought with medals it's time for the final mission: keeping the happy couple alive. They do nothing to make this task any easier, but the payoff will have to wait until tomorrow's update.

The best you can get is 40% resistance... which I should possibly get on, but accessories are kind of a pain in the rear end in this game.

It's also home of the Metal King Slime when you can go back after this portion of the story, which is kind of a key component for grinding.

We can switch between them for faster progress, so we'll start with Maya's first dance performance and its very unexpected audience.

We've got one final performance for Maya, and the wealthy benefactor who's bankrolling the performance is far from what Maya's expecting. Our prize for all of this is Maya's alternate costume, which is really not much of a prize if you're figuring by square inches. So now we're following those monsters up Yggdrasil, and it's time to chase some monkeys. I'm not kidding about that, either.

Today we're getting started by killing some time with the last of the equipment quests, and then it's time to take Terry out to play. He's got the suicidal impulses of the merchant we just had to protect, only amped up in that he actually tries to stand up and fight with the monsters. It goes about as well as might be expected, especially with all the giant sized monsters running around in the woods.

You had the right idea with minions. The Bright Lord AI is like a sentry and got drawn out to the horde while you ignored him. It would have been better if your main guys can be placed to defend an area, but it is a step up from the earlier Dynasty Warriors before Empires.

Ugh, that means that someone set that AI intentionally. Pretty much all of the other escorts we've done have at least had the grace to not actively try to get themselves killed, and even for him the sensible thing to do would be to just hang out and let us take care of business.

Honestly, the last time I watched Dragonball Z or any related product the last transformation was Super Saiyan. These days I'm mostly watching the Abridged Series, and that's already gone further than I actually ever watched as a kid.

We had some technical difficulties, but we're back and this time we're answering the question as to whether there's an additional quest to get our tension up to 100. There's not much of a difference beyond bigger numbers, but once we've got those bigger numbers we have some thieves to chase in the dwarven tunnels, with the interesting change here being that the place is full of monsters that would have counted as bosses any other time.

Scalding Coffee posted:

I suppose it's a matter of prioritization, since we'd have to pull off other accessories and there's no guarantee of protection. Freeze is probably the most annoying ailment, so that might be worth putting on everyone.

It really makes a huge difference, even though the increase isn't supposed to be that big. There's another one that makes metal enemies more likely to show up as well, so between the two you can get some appreciable grinding done and get a bunch of top of the line equipment in fairly short order.
