Update 33 Update 33 Video We're back with the first updates from our new setup, and as we get started it turns out that a BUNCH of character specific quests open up right before the end of the game. A lot of them showcase characters who we might not otherwise use and provide little bits of plot and character development, so they're actually usually worth doing. There's also a question of how many we can do after the last set of levels, so let's buckle up. Glazius posted:Well, dang. For hate's sake he spat his last breath at us. I have to respect that kind of dedication. Complete with some massive trolling by pretending to have seen the error of his ways, just to twist the knife a little bit more.

Update 34 Update 34 Video Today we're going ahead with some side-questing, and after that we need to break it up to let the side quests move forward. So to that end, we're going to push a bit forward with the story to keep things moving right along. It'll also help us not forget what we're doing with the main plot, since that's a very real risk at the end of any Dragon Quest game.

Update 35 Update 35 Video We're back again this week, and you're not seeing things: technical difficulties with recording and save slots mean that we're going back through the tunnels into Arba Castle. Afterwards we're going a different route and following up on Nera and Bianca's story, taking a break to head back into The Fault in search of a powerful weapon. As always, the real route to power is the side quest rather than the main quest. Scalding Coffee posted:Is it something to do with your recording or do monsters have attacks that teleport to smack you? That shield bash on Jessica was funny. Could be a bit of column A and a bit of Column B. The recording on the new setup is actually much lower latency since we're using a capture device rather than streaming and cutting it up later. Glazius posted:Now I'm thinking about what might happen if you controlled Healix on the battle map. I'm almost entirely sure they'll try to pull that off sometime. I can confirm that this is not a thing that happens, thankfully. Having played a healer in an MMO before I want nothing to do with trying to keep this group of chuckle-heads alive.

Update 36 Update 36 Today we're out of other options with out current party, so we'll just go ahead and actually progress the main story. We've got to first secure the castle and then head into the town to rescue some of the citizens, even though some of them seem as though they should be able to rescue themselves. Granny with the big ol' cast-iron skillet, I'm looking at you. Along the way we encountered some tech- excuse me, tentacle difficulties, but nothing that presented a great interruption so we rolled with it. Scalding Coffee posted:It must have been fun to build a castle that big on top of a living organism. I like how the buildings are arranged to look like a third layer of walls. It certainly does have an interesting aesthetic, but I can see why someone would do that. bman in 2288 posted:I feel like I'm missing your streams. Update 37 Update 37 Video We've still got a lot of the town of Arba ahead of us, and this place is HUGE. It pretty much incorporates all of the mechanics we've learned so far, and there are swarms of enemies all over the place. Once we prevail (because of course we will) the next scenes seem to indicate that we're right before the final levels of the main story. So... we're headed straight to sidequest-ville. Which will happen next time. Scalding Coffee posted:Are there any more power-up quests for your Tension? Pretty sure the next Tension upgrade comes with the main storyline, but we'll see when we get there. The last one was, which raises the interesting question of what happens if you skip the first two upgrades and just continue with the main quest... Glazius posted:What kind of procs are on that Zenithian sword? Or is it just pain? Sadly, weapons don't really have procs. It's just a matter of sheer attack power. Armor, in the form of orbs, have some interesting effects, but for weapons it's really a matter of which weapon has the biggest number. Erdrick's Sword and the Zenithian Sword have equal attack power, making them the second strongest weapons in the game for Luceus and Aurora. The next step up is the Metal King Sword, and that's a bit more difficult to get.

Update 38 Update 38 Video The quests are only getting more ridiculous, as we're now committing monster genocide in order to get flowers for a bridal bouquet. Luceus's mind gets blown by the possibilities of two women only needing one bouquet, and then after a side trip to get a new shield that's not as good as the metal king shield we bought with medals it's time for the final mission: keeping the happy couple alive. They do nothing to make this task any easier, but the payoff will have to wait until tomorrow's update. Scalding Coffee posted:My kingdom for a seal immunity. The best you can get is 40% resistance... which I should possibly get on, but accessories are kind of a pain in the rear end in this game. Glazius posted:drat but Arba castle town is flippin' huge. It's not often that you have a significant final part of the game, you know, not on an oppressive volcano island but outside somewhere in the sun. It's also home of the Metal King Slime when you can go back after this portion of the story, which is kind of a key component for grinding. Scalding Coffee posted:Good thing the giant tree never sheds its leaves or have its branches broken, it would have knocked out entire blocks. Either it's a magic tree, or the parts directly under branches are where the poor people live.

Update 39 Update 39 Video Despite the best efforts of Beryl and her fiance we eventually manage to save the pair of them, and that closes out Nera and Bianca's quests. After that it's time to pick up Yangus and Maya, since there are two more sets of quests around Yangus/Jessica and Maya. We can switch between them for faster progress, so we'll start with Maya's first dance performance and its very unexpected audience. Scalding Coffee posted:Those two run awfully fast for little people. The fact that they give them names is such a nice little touch. Too bad they're not permanent recruits. Glazius posted:This place certainly seems dwarven but it seems tough to judge which way monsters are going to flow through it, for the more ranged characters. Update 40 Update 40 Video Today we're going on one of Jessica and Yangus's quests, in search of a particular thief. Our thief is in another castle, however, so we'll just have to keep looking. In the meantime, Maya has another performance and another crowd of monsters show up to ruin the whole thing. One of these days Maya will actually get to perform, but in the meantime everyone seems to be enjoying the show. Scalding Coffee posted:RIP again, Gilbert. He was too good for this dark world, alas. And now that you say it, I can see that. That probably explains why I enjoyed that outfit.

Update 42 Update 42 Video We've got one final performance for Maya, and the wealthy benefactor who's bankrolling the performance is far from what Maya's expecting. Our prize for all of this is Maya's alternate costume, which is really not much of a prize if you're figuring by square inches. After that we've got a merchant to find who might have a lead on Yangus and Jessica's quest, but the whiny little twerp wants us to actually save his life BEFORE he'll tell us what he knows. We'll see about that... Scalding Coffee posted:We need to recruit the Mayor, he is too strong to be normal. I'd take him over half our cast. Or Terry. I didn't notice those yellow bats had an attack animation and it looks funny. Not as funny as blocking that poor guy in an arena behind a giant statue.

Update 43 Update 43 Video He wants to die, and drive me crazy on the way. That's my only explanation. The merchant is clearly suicidal. Eventually we overcome his suicidal nature, and the earth-shaking information he has about the stolen book is that monsters stole it. You could have told us that in about 5 seconds, jerk. So now we're following those monsters up Yggdrasil, and it's time to chase some monkeys. I'm not kidding about that, either. Scalding Coffee posted:I didn't notice those yellow bats had an attack animation and it looks funny. Not as funny as blocking that poor guy in an arena behind a giant statue. They were really thorough about making sure that everything has an animation, and definitely put a lot of love into the process. Some of it ends up looking ridiculous, but the effort was there.

Update 44 Update 44 Video Monkey see, monkey steal, monkey get chased down and murdered until we find which one actually has the Elder's book. We naturally have to take a little peak, and let's just never tell him about what we read. Next up is Alena's tournament, and before we can do that we need to slaughter some sabre cats for reasons. Scalding Coffee posted:Even after that loss, you still blew the chance to have minions get brutally killed against a dragon while you escort the merchant. Update 45 Update 45 Video Today we're getting started by killing some time with the last of the equipment quests, and then it's time to take Terry out to play. Our first quest is protecting the Elven Elder from an invasion, and let's just say that he's not the Mayor. He's got the suicidal impulses of the merchant we just had to protect, only amped up in that he actually tries to stand up and fight with the monsters. It goes about as well as might be expected, especially with all the giant sized monsters running around in the woods. Scalding Coffee posted:Did Jessica get a new outfit? I think it arrives a bit later, but it's honestly not all that impressive. Then again, I might be losing track since we've been getting all kinds of outfits.

You had the right idea with minions. The Bright Lord AI is like a sentry and got drawn out to the horde while you ignored him. It would have been better if your main guys can be placed to defend an area, but it is a step up from the earlier Dynasty Warriors before Empires. If you do end up watching DB Super, don't fall for the hype about the newest transformation beyond Cyan. A complete lack of originality that rivals my childhood.

Update 46 Update 46 Video Eventually, after much swearing, the Elven Elder manages to survive our rescue attempt and is appropriately grateful. That takes a bit, however, and so we're pretty much closing out from this recording session with some equipment purchasing and talking with companions. Puff! Puff! And from one of the worst candidates, too... Scalding Coffee posted:You had the right idea with minions. The Bright Lord AI is like a sentry and got drawn out to the horde while you ignored him. It would have been better if your main guys can be placed to defend an area, but it is a step up from the earlier Dynasty Warriors before Empires. Ugh, that means that someone set that AI intentionally. Pretty much all of the other escorts we've done have at least had the grace to not actively try to get themselves killed, and even for him the sensible thing to do would be to just hang out and let us take care of business. Honestly, the last time I watched Dragonball Z or any related product the last transformation was Super Saiyan. These days I'm mostly watching the Abridged Series, and that's already gone further than I actually ever watched as a kid.

Update 47 Update 47 Video We had some technical difficulties, but we're back and this time we're answering the question as to whether there's an additional quest to get our tension up to 100. There's not much of a difference beyond bigger numbers, but once we've got those bigger numbers we have some thieves to chase in the dwarven tunnels, with the interesting change here being that the place is full of monsters that would have counted as bosses any other time. Scalding Coffee posted:You really should protect against those ailments. Freeze just opens you up to a whooping. I suppose it's a matter of prioritization, since we'd have to pull off other accessories and there's no guarantee of protection. Freeze is probably the most annoying ailment, so that might be worth putting on everyone. Glazius posted:That %chance to drop mini medals accessory seems really, really good, with as much kill volume as you're putting out. It really makes a huge difference, even though the increase isn't supposed to be that big. There's another one that makes metal enemies more likely to show up as well, so between the two you can get some appreciable grinding done and get a bunch of top of the line equipment in fairly short order.
