I begged my parents for one of those casios in the 80s, I think I was in 6th grade. They got me one for my birthday or Christmas or something but I don't think it occurred to them to get me any music lessons so I made UFO sounds by palm muting the speaker like a horn and working the volume on top of either really slow or super sped up rhythms. 30 or more years later I still don't know poo poo about music and still make it basically the same way

It actually does have a programmable ASDR function that can be used to make ufo sounds without doing that. It turns out also that when none of the keys or buttons are being pressed it produces not completely inaudible static, which sounds pretty good run through a distortion pedal, assuming you want to make noise.

All those old metal pedals are cool imo. The Boss HM-2, the Boss Metal Zone, the Digitech Death metal, and even the Digitech Grunge pedal are all cool. I'ved owned them all at one point. I mostly just use the HM-2 now though.

I'm coming to the opinion that speaker and cab is one of the most critical components to making distorted guitar sound good. A lot of poo poo sounding metal pedals sound poo poo because, at the time in your life when you buy one you're playing it into a peavey RAGE amp or whatever.

I just saw a video last week of John Snyder of Electronic Audio Experiments running his Model feT (the most faithful recreation of a Sunn Model T preamp) pedal into an Acoustic 300 power amp. This is where we're at my dude... modular rigs.

The way I think about it when it comes to playing proficiency, is thus: - "Can you play a couple of covers from your favorite band?" If you can, you're A-OK, keep practicing and try to come off with your own stuff. If you don't, keep practicing. It's very likely that the guy on that video seldom even picks up a loving guitar, much less plugs it in.

Wark Say posted:The way I think about it when it comes to playing proficiency, is thus: Yeah, you don't have to be anything close to a virtuoso. To demo a guitar, you need to know: 1. at least three ringing primary chords. G, C, D, E, etc. 2. a simple, punk style triad barre chord. 3. like one good single-note run at any speed that works basically anywhere on the fretboard. This guy sounds like he's not even comfortable holding a pick. Like he learned his first two chords earlier that day on a left handed guitar and then did this video right after. It's a not-terrible collage of Japanese artwork, cancelled stamps and maybe some other romantic old timey stuff. I wouldn't do that to a guitar but it's at least done pretty well.
