I’m gonna defend the Pennyworth tv show. It was dumb as hell and the guy playing Thomas Wayne has the worst American accent of all time, but it is a ton of stupid fun.

The way he stands for Southland Tales makes me think he’s a secret genchat poster. Chris Cabin being SMG would be the greatest reveal since Vince McMahon as the higher powerr

So did I

Funny to me that in the Batman Begins episode that for all the voice work they do, they largely bounce off the single most mockable and notoriously distracting thing in this film (and the whole trilogy), which is the motherfucking Batman growl. It's a weak spot here and only gets worse in the next two movies. I expected a lot more riffing on that aspect but, other than that, still a great episode. Hopefully, they'll do the whole trilogy.

They also never touched on Nolan's propensity for absolutely terrible sound mixing. I don't know why he does what he does in that regard and, even though it works better in a theater, gently caress me if I don't absolutely have to keep the volume remote nearby whenever I watch any of his movies at home. The music and sound effects rattle the paintings off my walls and wake the neighbors but any dialogue is really hard to hear; and that's not even taking into account things like Bane's weird voice just as it is.

Also, as great as TDK is, I agree with Steven that this is the best film in the trilogy.

I think they don't touch on it here because it's not really much of a problem in Begins. Bruce uses a bit of a voice to disguise himself, but it's not to the point of parody until the sequels. As you said, it becomes worse in each subsequent movie, and by Rises it's downright silly. But in Begins, I don't think it's noteworthy, except in hindsight when you consider the sequels.

For real. Bale mostly deploys the voice against criminals in Batman Begins, save for the incredibly on-the-nose conversation with Rachel. It's when he uses it in conversation with Selina and Alfred in the sequels that the voice modulating cowl from the Snyder films, while a bit silly, does actually feel more grounded in reality.

I still don't understand why they hate it so much. It's ok not to like a movie, but they seem to have been bullied by Zack Snyder in High School.

Out of curiosity, do they bring up the rumor that you could totally see up Jessica Rabbit's dress at that one part if you frame advanced to the exact right frame?

Man was life weird before the internet when the only options for young men were woods porn, scrambled cable, sneaking older relatives/neighbors collections, Cinemax, or weird urban legends about Disney animators getting on over on the MPAA.

Agreed that Begins is the best of the trilogy. Dark Knight imo is just as messy as Rises but Ledger is a loving house (or pile of mob cash) on fire and elevates it so much higher than the Bane/not No Mans Land story

Now that my son is old enough, we’ve been watching through some of my fav films, including the Nolan movies. Batman Begins is my fav of the trilogy too - it’s a tighter film and come on you can’t beat a good origin story. My son preferred The Dark Knight. But I can’t bring myself to show him the third movie - I heard there was a decent fan edit out there but I haven’t been able to find a copy.

We watched The Prestige yesterday, and my son actually picked that they were twins. He’s obviously much smarter than me. Not sure how many times I’ve seen that movie, but this was also the first time that I realized Borden’s wife didn’t kill herself. Maybe I’m not the sharpest.

Tonight we watched Tenet, and it’s pretty rough. It feels like the script needed a few more passes or something.

Tenet is really. really good. I get why some people would not like it, but it was extremely my jam.

I also do not quite get why people complain about Nolan's sound mixing. I have never had a problem with it, but I also watch most movies at home on my own sound system (because i loving hate the 'THEATER EXPERIENCE!' for the most part.)

I have a 2.1 setup at home and Tenet is barely recognizable. I'm riding that volume knob on the remote the entire runtime. It's annoying as hell. I get mixing for the best possible audio experience in a theater, but at least at home give me a 2.0 mix. It'd be a lot to even get a 2.1 but I'd take a 2.0 for us plebe non-home owners who can only do a soundbar.

Motel Midnight off the hook

There’s a scene where Sarah is arguing with the “evil” twin, the one who’s in love with Scarlett Johansson, and Sarah keeps saying “I can’t live like this, I know what you are, no more secrets” or something along those lines. And afterwards Scarlett mentions Sarah had wanted to meet with her that same day she died, to tell her some secret or truth about Borden. Seems strange to ask for a meeting and then kill yourself earlier in the day right?

It was also the same “evil”’twin that ties the other knot, and that goes back to see that last show and gets framed for murder, even though the other twin told him to stay away from the show. Oh poo poo maybe the “good” twin realised it was a setup! Seeing the water tank prob made him suspicious.

Such a great movie.

That's actually where it's the worst for me. Rattles my dishes off the cabinets and my paintings off my walls whenever the music kicks in or an action sequence is happening. I seriously have to keep the remote handy when I watch any of them.
