But CIG don't spend any money on marketing, which is why their development budget is all 140 million of their income. Also they're so efficient that it's the equivalent of having 4x = 560 million because there's no publisher/marketing overhead. Remember Chris said this directly.

Instead of backloading all the marketing in one lump they have integrated it into the whole process... And they spent more on the integrated marketing than if they did it all at the end... And then they will have to do a marketing lump at the end too anyway... Twice. No, several times more because SQ42 is in episodes.

Everything they have produced so far is marketing though.

The ship sales (most of the concepts clearly were made just to be sold and are being shoehorned into the game), the shows, the brochures, the commercials, the demos....

Obviously that not all of what they are doing but its the meat and potatoes of their operation.

The true believers are going to think everything is fine and the game will come out as promised "eventually", up until two weeks after CIG closes up shop.

Those two weeks will be spent denying CIG is shuttered.

What was the slick commercials for ships all about? I forget how they justified it and how backers justified it to themselves. What a waste of loving money. What an awful loving waste.

Theoretically it was to show they were capable of AAA quality stuff but it ended up being the only things they ever produced that looked like they gave a quarter of a gently caress about.

Then the dev who created them left IIRC. That's why they stopped releasing new ship trailer videos

quote:

Star Citizen Shows Off Map And Mission In New Video

Star Citizen is aiming to be one of, if not the, biggest sci-fi games of all time content wise. After all, it is the most crowdfunded game of all time, and continues to earn support. And, aside from the main gameplay, there’s also Squadron 42, which features actors like Mark Hamill and more to add to the prestige and class of the game.

You’d think, that with the scale of the game, the team wouldn’t be sharing things with the fans until they were ready, and you would be wrong. Star Citizen is famous for showing off as much as they can, because they know that without the support of their community, the game’s production would be in vein.

For proof of this, you need look no further than their “Happy Hour”, which is where they play the game in-engine to show a little bit of what you can expect. The episode below features Character Art Director Josh Herman along with Community Managers Jared Huckaby and Tyler Witkin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DK91ihQH5WQ

For those who don’t have time to watch the 50-minute video, the team demos a port area for the pirates in the game called Grim Ex that’s on the Crusader map. Aside from noting a lot of the graphical details that have been added via update 2.6, they talk about the story and journal aspects of the game, as well as go on a mission in-game. So, if you’re eager to see Star Citizen in action, you’ll definitely want to check out the full video above.

For anyone who doesn't get it, Star Citizen is so broken at the conceptual level that the motherfucking Zybourne Clock is a more thought out premise, and is starting to look like a more worthy recipient of $142M. Think of all the Wikis you could start with that kind of dough.

My favorite part is the couple of frames where the ship disappears before being replaced with pieces of the destroyed version.
