I do not know what I would do with a Commodore PET but god drat do I want one Preferably one that's broken beyond repair so I wouldn't have to feel bad gutting it to put in a pi or just leaving it on a shelf and never turning it on

I had a similar HP Pavilion from a couple years before that with a PII at like 250mhz. That was the machine that started my descent into nerddom, as I started tinkering with it to get better gaming performance. Added RAM, changed the GPU, might have added an optical drive of some kind. Was a pain in the rear end to work in that case, but it was the first computer where I messed with the hardware.

My dad had that pavilion too. I remember him cursing god when he tried to swap parts unit once. I think he cut his hand or something

Found a picture of my desk circa 2005. Dual 15" CRT screens, ZIPdrive and a Logitech Dual Optical mouse. Also, one of the best cellphones I ever had, the Siemens S55. Battery lasted a week on full charge, it ran Java apps and there was a click-on camera for it too.

They're part of Bandai's Mega Armor line, consisting of Megaman X series figures. There's also a bunch of other Megaman figures in there.

I had some spare money I didn't actually earn back in 2001 and I was dumb enough to drop it on a gaming PC including a 21" Samsung Syncmaster monster of a monitor, the one with the blue-colored arc on the top of the monitor. Thing would heat my room pretty decently by itself. Kept it until 2007 or so.

I used a Sony GDM-FW900 CRT up until 2010 when it sadly died. That thing was an outstanding monitor - 24" flat screen, 16:9ish and able to do basically 1440p resolution, built-in USB hub. It also weighed 98 pounds. CaptainSarcastic has a new favorite as of 05:15 on Aug 17, 2022 |

It's fine when you look at it straight on, but when the monitor is in my peripheral vision I see really bad flickering. I think human vision has higher refresh rate in the peripheral vision.

When I took mushrooms I could see the flicker in fluorescent lights. I can't remember if it commonly happened when I took acid, but it might have. I think there is some individual variation, but it wouldn't surprise me if some people can see the flicker even without .

I don't know about refresh rate, because that's not really a thing for eyes, but I'm pretty sure peripheral vision is much more adept at noticing motion.

It was in stepdads work ute with a big loudspeaker on the ringer so he could hear it when elsewhere on a construction site. It was always fun to see him jump/fall scramble and gently caress himself up to get to that phonecall that could be a new contract, only for it to be mum wondering when he was bringing me home.

Here's my latest tech relic, it appears to be a 286 motherboard installed in a generic XT clone case with a CGA monitor. It seems to start up just fine but I haven't really had much of a chance to tinker with it just yet Aside from the yellowing on the front panel it's in overall clean condition.
