Which is a nice little touch in of itself, frankly.

There are a hundred little things in Watch_Dogs 2 but one particular small gameplay mechanic has a very nice execution: You press L3 to make Marcus sprint. After that he'll only stop running if 1)You make a full stop or 2)You press L3 again. That means if you bump into someone, hit a wall, make a wrong turn and need to do a 180, climb or jump down, you don't need to worry about him going back to his normal walking, he'll still be going at full mach speed.

I named my palico after my fiance's cat and made it look like her. When my fiance watches she asks how the cat's doing instead of me. The cat was on a lil' raft last time

Anyone who would willingly consume anime in the first place is already compromised re: their ability to identify anime bullshit. I always enjoy seeing mysteries from the beginning and knowing exactly what is really going on at any moment. Get Even has a lot of foreshadowing that's fairly satisfying to recognise and when you know the full plot of Horizon, that first bunker as baby-Aloy is really hard hitting when you understand what they are referring to. IIRC they are preparing for humanity's mass suicide. In the final room with a lot of logs they are starting to feel the effects of the cyanide capsules. Better to die on your own terms than being eaten to death by a sentient blender

That bunker chose to kill themselves after GAIA turned on because they couldn't face the rest of their lives in it.

Oh Yeah, Just started a replay, so I got the events out of order. Haven't played it for a while. Trying to get better at it, then I'll get the DLC. Want to at least get the hang of the RopeCaster and do all the side-missions this time. At least this time I know in advance how good Corruption arrows are, I never used them my first run.

I got The Witness for , and I love it. I think, more than most any puzzle game I can think of, it strikes the balance between being very clever/difficult, while also making sure that the rules or the goal is obvious to you (not 100% of the time, but the success rate is good). The best comparison I can think of are crossword puzzles. Good ones rely on deciphering the clues; but when a lot of the clues rely on specific knowledge (e.g. names, dates), the challenge isn't very fulfilling in terms of solving a puzzle. So if The Witness made you, like, know hexadecimal ahead of time, or know existing puzzle-solving conventions, it would fall into that trap. But 12 hours in, the game feels almost completely self-contained, and it's really impressive for a game that I had somewhat written off for being only line puzzles. (Now off to the other thread to complain about it being almost as far up its own rear end as Braid)

Captain Lavender posted:(Now off to the other thread to complain about it being almost as far up its own rear end as Braid) I never really got this because all the audio logs are completely optional and out of the way, even seeking them out I beat the entire game only finding a few of them. And the ending FMV was really funny and completely dialogue-free.

The problem is they are bad because they exclude people with hearing difficulties - some of the later puzzles have the same problem for the colourblind. He didn't even try to cater to the disabled crowd.

I enjoyed finding a secret and as a reward having the point of the game spelled out to me as if I was an idiot. But really the game is great fun, I just don't plan to ever 100% it, I'm fine with the basic ending.

The rest of the puzzles are taught to you entirely through the game, and it's really quite cool that you need literally no prior knowledge to solve them. And I don't mean general knowledge stuff like books of the Bible or how the little horse moves in chess. You can solve most of The Witness without knowing what counting is, or what letters are. That's a seriously impressive bit of design, and it's a shame he ruined it with the sound and colour puzzles (even though the game teaches you enough colour theory to solve the lift)

The game was made by like five guys, seems hyperbolic to say it was a 'big middle finger' to the like <0.5% of the population that might decide to play it, but also suffer from a hearing disability. Color blindness is much more common, but still relatively rare to be drastic enough to impair your ability to finish the game. Its unfortunate, for sure, but how much dev time do you think they had to spare that they would focus on such a minuscule sliver of their target demographic?

The legend of grimrock guys added a completely different control scheme or something because one disabled guy was sad he couldn't play it. Jon Blow probably has more resources than they did

I had a lot of fun with The Witness but some of the environmental puzzles were sooooo obtuse or well-hidden, it was ridiculous. Like, I finished 95% of the main puzzles and found/solved about 75% of the environmental puzzles in like 30 hours, and even solved The Challenge, but I spent another 30 or so scouring the whole island to find the remaining ones and got like...less than half of what was left. Ended up just following a guide to find the rest and called bullshit on how ridiculous some of them were. The actual puzzles were a challenge but those were just a really crappy scavenger hunt
