AC4 is basically standalone. You might not understand some of the "real world" stuff, particularly towards the end, but it's minor. The pirate stuff is fun and you can essentially ignore most of the "real world" stuff other than the short segments you're forced to play. If you like it though, I'd really recommend picking up Assassin's Creed 2: The Ezio Trilogy or whatever they're calling the 2/brotherhood/revelations box set as IMO those games are basically the pinnacle of the series so far.

I liked Infamous: Second Son. It felt different enough for me from the older games, particularly the movement abilities made everything feel much smoother. I still feel like it has a bit of wasted potential because they take this awesome premise of having superpowers and essentially trap you into a third person shooter where You Are The Gun, but it's a fun romp. Second Son is shorter than the previous Infamous games, but honestly it's probably 10 or so hours for your first playthrough and a little less if you go in for a second. I thought it was worth my money.

Yeah you've basically got it. They broke away from most of that stuff for AC4, all you need to know is there's a bunch of precursor technology (magic artifacts) buried everywhere. If anyone mentions Desmond Miles (aka Subject 17), he was the guy you played as in all the other games.

AC4 comes in well after the metaplot went from kind of interesting to all out stupidtown (this happened somewhere between Brotherhood and AC3, but it was always dangerously close anyway).

Speaking as a really big Assassin's Creed fan (went through AC1 four times before AC2 even came out) I honestly think it's the most playable and well polished of the games, and sure as hell is the most fun out of all of them, but it's also the only one that I gave the least of a poo poo about finishing the main plot. Traded it in, waiting for a sale for the digital version to pick it back up, so take that as you will.

Also, if you are in any way interested in a whaling simulator, disregard any other information and buy this game.

One of the best parts about AC4 is how the historical player character, the present-day player character, and you in real life are all united in your disdain for the stupid overarching sci-fi bullshit metaplot.

That's probably the best way they can do this. They don't want people to abuse this by letting you then on your ps4 in the morning and letting a friend play all day.

My guess is, it just needs validation every hour. So you could still let your friend play as long as you connect it again once it drops.

The only people unhappy about this are likely were going to mooch off games off other people. buy your own drat games

That's interesting, you're the first person I've seen who actually preferred 3's combat. I thought that was way too simplified, from what I remember of 3 it was basically a glorified QTE. The 2 series combat wasn't great but once I got a hang of it I vastly preferred it to 3/4's stuff. It's not a big deal though, as AC is mostly about exploring, being stealthy, and that kind of thing.

I've had my PS4 for a few days now, and so far the only games I have for it are Road not Taken, Fez, and P.T., because they're all free (well, the first two on PS+, at any rate.)

I know I'll pick up Destiny when that comes out (is it worth it to pre-order now? Is the Beta still going on, or did that close?) What else should I get?

I played both InFamous games on PS3, so Second Son seems tempting, but I'm worried it'll just me more of the same, yet a little prettier. I've never been into Call of Duty of Battlefield, so those are out. I have Transistor and Rogue Legacy on PC, and I might eventually buy them on PS4 if they drop in price, but not right now. I tried out Watch Dogs via Gamefly, and didn't care for it.

Is Assassin's Creed IV good? Will I enjoy it even I only ever played the first rear end. Creed game about halfway through? Or do I need all the others for story purposes?

Is Lego Marvel Superheroes with $40? I also haven't played any previous Lego games...I'm a terrible gamer, it would seem.

Rent inFamous, it's really worth a play through, but it's short. AC4 is good as others have said, Lego Marvel is good too unless you hate Lego games I guess, if you like Marvel a lot that would be a good idea. TLoU is actually 50 bucks, but yeah, best deal was when Gamestop was doing the trade-in of the PS3 version toward its pre-order to make it like 25 or whatever.

Check the free-to-play stuff out if you haven't already, a lot of people seem to enjoy Warframe and War Thunder, I played the former for a good while but keep getting distracted by other games. Playing it with goons makes it a lot better, like better than most games when it comes to that.

Played Killzone Multiplayer again today after a hiatus, and I guess it is following in the series footsteps. Its a meat grinder with a bunch of ways to easily die. It sort of feels dumbed down in ways because as far as I know, you can't actually completely kill people like you could in the old games by shooting them once they are down.

But I guess I learned my lesson. I only jumped on because I saw Dantes playing and he is a good teammate to have in The Last of Us.

AC 1&2 were parry waiting games, it wasn't combat. Its wait, parry, and win the entire game. Rock paper swords of AC 3/4 was way more fun.

Yeah, every time the idea of remote playing and sharing gets brought up, suddenly people start losing their heads and dream of "Welcome to the Digital Age, 10 people sharing Call of Duty for 6 bucks!?"

Speaking of remote play, another trip report for those of you who were thinking of using a Vita for PS4 remote play: my PS4 is on the US West Coast and I'm on the East, with decent home broadband connections on each side and my PS4 hooked up via Ethernet. Watch Dogs is basically unplayable as video bit rate drops and varying input lag make any precision work extremely difficult, plus it's generally difficult to play a game designed for a high-res TV through a video that looks like a 1990s-era RealMedia stream. Playing something like Road Not Taken is certainly doable and it looks rather crisp, with only a few intermittent reminders that I'm streaming it; however it's ironic that it's the kind of game the Vita could easily run on its own

This is from a few pages ago but I can see why even once you get past the fact that MGS is not a dude-bro series, I could still see it alienating women. The series is all over the place with its characterizations. Sure, Meryl and Sniper Wolf in MGS1 are decent if simple and Boss from MGS3 is pretty cool, some weirdnesses aside like giving birth on the battlefield (why?) or some such but then you have the weird pseudo (maybe real, maybe not?) incest plotline that accompanies the most unfun escort mission in gaming in MGS2 as well as the whole concept of Rose, who I'd successfully forgotten until writing this post. You have the weirdness all over the place in 4 including the bosses, and one of the women in MGS5 getting raped and "snuked" (as has been said, allegedly). Sure, the guys get screwed over all over the place and their are some weird characterizations there too.

Just writing this post reminds me what of what a tolerance for story bullshit you have to have to enjoy these games.

I haven't found any strict pattern about how to navigate between the worlds other than the "trunk world" gets you to a lot of them. I think the eye count (#/#) might be counting the world you're in, not the screen, where each world is a set of tunnels that you more or less explore until you find one that takes you back to the trunk, usually after finding one of the escaped... snake... sperm... things.

You mean next-gen only games? There are actually very few, you might even have singled out the only current game that's out on PS4 and XB1 but nothing else, although there are some coming (Assassin's Creed: Unity is one of them I think, as is Batman: Arkham Knight).

The problem with that was that if they didn't have Diablo 3 UE for preorder and the promotion ends Sunday, I couldn't really leverage this deal to get what I want. You could definitely use it to get $14 off anything you want by preordering absolutely anything else for $1 and then buying a game right now, the Target clerk explicitly told me that.

Look into a SSHD(solid state hybrid drive), you can get 1tb for around the same price and faster speeds. When I got mine it was around double the size of my computers ssd for 1/5 the price. Since basically everything runs off the hd now its not a bad idea to go for speed.
