What kind of maniac wouldn't share the cover from the first issue? I actually had a copy of this many years ago. It lies slightly - the cameo is Donatello only, if memory serves, but he is actually drawn by Peter Laird. He gives Punky Future Shades there directions and comments how nice pre-teens are these days.

Samovar posted:Jesus, Magneto's expression. That's Clarinetto, get it right. I got this comic off a newsstand in a hospital gift shop when I was a kid. It's...interesting if nothing else. The origin has it replicating the Hulk's origin, where Banner is doing his G-Bomb testing, only instead of Rick Jones in the blast site, it's a wayward circus wagon full of pregnant elephants. Banner rushes out to save them...and is promptly vaporized while the elephants are relatively okay. The babies born are anthropomorphic monstrosities that are sent to various corners of the world. There's Trunklops, who's like cyclops only the laser comes out his nose (and he requires a ruby quartz noseplug). Rumbo, who is the Wolverine analog, with the metal tusks and bad attitude and shortness, the creatively named Mammoth who's just colossus as an elephant, and to round out the mutant pastiche there's Electrolux who uh...is just Elektra with a trunk. The humor isn't very good. I recall at one point this mid-80s comic actively tries to reference 70s era Saturday Night Live with their jokes, which hits about as well as a wet fart. I do like that Clarinetto's team is called the "New Musicians" though.

From West Coast Avengers vol. 2 #17 (1987). The Avengers go on an adventure in Albuquerque. Literally while this is happening, Hank Pym is writing his suicide note back at home base. It's...an interesting combination of tones?

You know, I'm willing to accept Jason Todd doing a lot of terrible things, but child porn really does break my suspension of disbelief.

It is ironic, but you don't often see irony with such a complete lack of subtlety. I like that in context of the full conversation, Kenshiro seems more annoyed that the dude gave "throwing dynamite at people" a cool, anime attack name than the fact he brought dynamite to a fist fight.
