Trying to lead a middle-aged life. Well, it's either that or drop dead.

I’ve listened to both the recent ozyfest and quiz kids episodes enough times that my phone is starting to suffer from depression.

Just masterful episodes coming out recently.

I like the part in the Ozy fest epiosde near the end where they mention the New Jim Crow and Amber says "that book sucks" and you can hear in Will's voice an absolute lack of willingness to deal with that take at that moment.

She cites Adolp Reed, who wrote:

Adolp Reed she quote posted:

A second essentialist sleight-of-hand advances claims for the primacy of race/racism as an explanation of inequalities in the present by invoking analogies to regimes of explicitly
racial subordination in the past. In these arguments, analogy stands in for evidence and explanation of the contemporary centrality of racism. Michelle Alexander’s widely read and cited book, The New Jim Crow, is only the most prominent expression of this tendency; even she has to acknowledge that the analogy fails because the historical circumstances are so radically different.

Eastern Europe Episode IV: A New Hope. I love President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. I understand and appreciate the precarious position the Ukrainians are navigating. I wish I could set up a 401(UA) fund from my paycheck to directly contribute my earnings to Ukraine's success.

Have read the book, would be interested if Amber has. There are valid criticisms for just about anything, but one of the most annoying forms of criticism comes in the form of saying something is bad because someone else does. I like Adolph Reed, but sometimes it can get exhausting to not get to enjoy or gain insight from something because it is not radical enough.

Shits boring, who cares.

It's just a really overwrought way to say 'the book doesn't really say much about contemporary racial issues because it focuses so hard on the narrative of 'ok guys we agree these old bigoted laws were bad, right? Well this is like them again'.'

So basically not wrong but took a whole paragraph to say one line, the Adolph Reed story.

Does it have the episode where Gohan goes Super Saiyan 2 for the first time?

Kunster
Dec 24, 2006

Only one cartoon episode, it being the anime one of South Park.

Sidenote... was anyone surprised at after several episodes of (rightfully) admonishing Liberal critics for attempting to be more nitpicky about what scripture and what religion Republican / Conservative types follow during law making, down to one episode having a Matt somewhat told off for pointing out the Israeli Govt's love of the alt-right and vice versa being somewhat ironic, and more or less a chunk of this episode having a fit over her going to a Houngan, saying it wouldn't fit with the conservative and more christian crowd? I mean, the McCains are still a figure of note.

Oh definitely, it just hit me particularly hard looking at that top 10. It's so perfectly designed to make a certain kind of person angry. There's an ep of Survivor above any Sopranos episode. It's a particularly lovely kind of genius

They were complaining about wishy-washy pseudo religion that excuses all your lovely behaviors and allows you to be comfortable with your own complete lack of critical thinking because some mythical force loves you unconditionally. The Houngan is just an example of her lack of conviction about anything (except that you're not allowed to criticize her for anything, especially not if it has to do with her enormous wealth and privilege).

That one is really good and devoid of their stupid politics. I agree that Scott Tenorman is the best though.

Their choice for CYE pissed me off when they ranked that series and made me mad again this time around.
