Make sure it still has oil in it, as thumpers have a tendency to burn oil under freeway use, and sometimes people won't check, and that'll really kill the engine life as they only have 1.8 liters of oil anyways. Valve checks are every 15.5k, so most of the time a first owner bike won't make it to that. Flatslides are good, big tanks are good, all other mods are marginal.

Picked up a lightly used supermoto setup for my DR650, came with quite a bit of extra's. Haven't installed anything yet but the package included: Sun supermoto wheels (4.25" rear/3.5" front) Kenda K270 knobbies (PO had these installed when I bought them 4.70 front/5.10 rear) Michelin Power Race tires (160 rear/120 front - 70% tread left) Cush Drive & Sprocket EBC 320mm Rotor and relocation bracket Rear stock rotor I'm thinking of putting the Michelin's on but are the Power Race too much for just plain street/commute use? Thinking of selling them off and picking up the Power Pilots instead after I wear out the Kenda's. What street tires do you guys like, would like to have a little bit of dual sport use left if possible incase I hop on a gravel road or light trail occasionally. For more heavy duty offroad use I have a dedicated offroad tire on my stock wheelset.   Just playing around:  Also got a new rear shock; Cogent rebuild:  cmorrow001, you still in Kzoo? Speaking of mods/wrenching. I need some kinda cargo solution for the DRZ. Also, it came with a pretty cool looking LED rear light attachment but I need to install it... and it didn't some with anything that looks like it mounts the OEM rear turn signals... Do those mount on something separately? Also came with a MOTY design battery pre installed and the CA emissions thing removed. The battery is pretty nice, its like the size of an RC car battery.

New pads in and bedded, bike stops like a motherfucker now. Quite a bit more brake drag though. Anyway to get the pistons to retract farther? I had issues when installing the pads because the pistons wouldn't stay retracted long enough to get the pads in and on the rotor. They'd sit 1/16-1/8" out of the housing.

I think it's just people pointing out the weaknesses of different bikes as if you aren't already aware. "You know you have lean way forward on those crotch rockets" "That cruiser is nice but it can't keep up in the twisties" Anyway, I've been chatting the guy up more and feeling pretty good about it. He seems to be a trustworthy guy and is even willing to come to me since I have two potential bikes. Excitement rising....

Been working backing it in on my way to work. I've only done it a half dozen or so but I haven't felt anything like skipping, just smooth gliding. Is squealing OK? Alternatively is rapid off-on squealing OK if the back tire still feels like it's moving smoothly?

It's hard to say whether "rapid on-off" squealing is normal or not, but if it feels alright then it probably is okay. In my experience backing it in without a slipper clutch, I get pretty consistent squealing and it feels smooth unless i let out the clutch too slow.

On the KTM the Pirellis we're silent when sliding the rear, but the Maxxis tires I ran would make all sorts of noise, while the feel between the two was the same. Hey z3n where did you get/what is the name of your hard luggage thing? Also it seems like you can re-mount the rear blinkers on different parts of the frame... I'm probably going to do move them this weekend and install the LED rear light. I think I need some extra mounting hardware though, so maybe not. I need to do it sooner than later though as it looks like the rear OEM license/light assembly is pretty hosed up. I think the engine is pretty much fine as it is, stock. Not like I'll have any cash to mess with it for some time anyways. All these pipes/headers/etc sound expensive, and I'm mechanically retarded, so I think I'll stick to just changing the oil for now. I noticed on the front LED headlight/HID thing the description says that poo poo is not DOT approved. I'd say if you can get it for anything in the 4k range, roughly judging inflation in your market, you'd be good. Other option is seeing if you'd be better off converting a DRZ400S model to SM...you can get wheelsets, brand new, for $1000-1500. Maybe a bit less thanks to the strength of your dollar vs. ours right now. Hmmm..contrary to that, the guy I might be buying one from described his as "the odo died at 8k miles, i'd estimate it at 12k based on the rear tires i've replaced." Granted the set on there only have 300 he says but I was scared to ask is "tires" was 2 or 3...
