There has to be a point at which even those Russians who are most receptive to state propaganda look at actions like this and question why a government engaged in a mere "special operation", with the virtuous goal of "liberating" the grateful Ukrainian people, needs to go to these sorts of lengths to prevent people from learning about or discussing the conflict at all. A calm, confident government, which is competently and virtuously helping their brothers and sisters in need would surely want people to see what is taking place in Ukraine, not pulling out every stop to prevent that from happening. I know people are good at harbouring a lot of cognitive dissonance where the issue is of emotional importance to them, but how could anyone fail to recognise that something untoward is going on here?

The figure was a bit of a stretch, but the gas and electricity where i currently live have already gone so much up (up 100% for each) that I wouldn't be surprised to go up to soaring heights.

Also no, no major nation with a brain can afford it.

Unless you really want to have massive riots and right wing rise in half of EU.

Okay, after the 500% it's now "no major nation with a brain". A reasonable person would maybe first look at which nations are getting how much gas/oil, how much would it cost to replace it and how much would it raise prices overall before blurting out a hot take.

Because obviously, any sanctions, including the ones that now exist, will cost the population money, at least temporarily.

He's also got balls the size of nuclear reactors for offering to go to Chernobyl to help mediate between Ukraine and the Russian Federation to keep this from potentially happening again.

I've been watching and this guy is really serious about getting on the ground in Ukraine. Apparently they've already contacted Russia and Ukraine about heading over and they're "considering it". He also confirmed that it was in fact a Russian projectile that damaged the reactor. Currently Ukrainian technicians are in control of the reactor but they are surrounded by Russian troops.

He doesn't want to "sit and just tweet messages" - wants to get over there to really resolve this

Also there's another plant near Odessa with 3 units, and some of the plants in Western Ukraine don't have the level of defensive containment that the ones in Eastern Ukraine have.

Nah, he's no fan of the Russians. Of some of their equipment, sure, but he's been plenty critical in previous videos looking into the RA's attempts to modernise. He's pretty dorky, but he knows what he is talking about and is trying to provide an objective assessment through the fog of war.

I don't know if these are random or not, but the average person in Russia absolutely does not give a gently caress about war crimes in Ukraine. The vast majority are in favor of Russian expansionism, or happy to remain ignorant of everything. The only reason it registers as an issue at all is that the effect of sanctions is starting to hit, e.g. IKEA stores closing.
