a podcast for cats posted:Didn't see this mentioned before, but apparently, BBC, Deutsche Welle, Meduza and RFE (Радио Свобода) have now been banned in Russia. They're really speedrunning the entire thing. There has to be a point at which even those Russians who are most receptive to state propaganda look at actions like this and question why a government engaged in a mere "special operation", with the virtuous goal of "liberating" the grateful Ukrainian people, needs to go to these sorts of lengths to prevent people from learning about or discussing the conflict at all. A calm, confident government, which is competently and virtuously helping their brothers and sisters in need would surely want people to see what is taking place in Ukraine, not pulling out every stop to prevent that from happening. I know people are good at harbouring a lot of cognitive dissonance where the issue is of emotional importance to them, but how could anyone fail to recognise that something untoward is going on here?

TearsOfPirates posted:The figure was a bit of a stretch, but the gas and electricity where i currently live have already gone so much up (up 100% for each) that I wouldn't be surprised to go up to soaring heights. Okay, after the 500% it's now "no major nation with a brain". A reasonable person would maybe first look at which nations are getting how much gas/oil, how much would it cost to replace it and how much would it raise prices overall before blurting out a hot take. Because obviously, any sanctions, including the ones that now exist, will cost the population money, at least temporarily.

To me, it sounds that guy has the biggest boner for Russian military and looking at his Armata video it sure looks like it, he's just so annoying that I can't really watch his videos, just have to skip around. He does some mental gymnastics to explain that they are not really failing, and the BTRs are really filled with victory wine. He totally skipped US info about the convoy having a bunch of logistical issues and attacks and that's why they are stuck. Although he could say it at some point, I just can't watch his videos.

Swiped from the GBS threadNeddy Seagoon posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zsIMfTEUjs I've been watching and this guy is really serious about getting on the ground in Ukraine. Apparently they've already contacted Russia and Ukraine about heading over and they're "considering it". He also confirmed that it was in fact a Russian projectile that damaged the reactor. Currently Ukrainian technicians are in control of the reactor but they are surrounded by Russian troops. He doesn't want to "sit and just tweet messages" - wants to get over there to really resolve this Also there's another plant near Odessa with 3 units, and some of the plants in Western Ukraine don't have the level of defensive containment that the ones in Eastern Ukraine have. Nah, he's no fan of the Russians. Of some of their equipment, sure, but he's been plenty critical in previous videos looking into the RA's attempts to modernise. He's pretty dorky, but he knows what he is talking about and is trying to provide an objective assessment through the fog of war.
