I'm not really into modding guitars these days but he's done a few bits - masterwound '66 pickups from Oil City, cloth covered wiring, conversion to master tone/volume/blend and a steel trem block. It sounds absolutely ace and is really fun and easy to play.

Great looking!

What do you mean master tone/volume/blend? What's the blend do?

Usually blend controls on a guitar refer to blending between pickups, as opposed to a toggle switch.

Master tone/volume probably refers to having a single tone and volume knob that works on whichever pickup you have selected, as opposed to having individual controls for each pickup.

Yeah I like the master volume and tone wiring, that's great on a strat compared to the default tone knobs setup.

I'm familiar with the guitar setups of guys like Brent Mason who has a Telecaster with a middle pickup, and a dedicated knob that just blends that middle pickup into the signal at any time. That seems like a really neat idea, but that red guitar above shows that it still has a 5-way toggle because it's set in position 4.

I was just wondering how that specific blend knob worked. Does it blend the middle pickup into the circuit? Does it only work in position 3, where it blends between the middle pickup only and just the outer pickups, etc?

Lurking in the pedals thread inspired me to pick up this Walrus Audio Iron Horse v1. Ended up being my favorite distortion pedal ever. Does everything from a dirty boost to blown out fuzz. Super happy.

Also realized my dream of owning a Les Paul. Bought this early 00's Epiphone with Burstbuckers on Reverb. The neck pickup has this warm, beautiful clean tone and I'm in love.

I'm really glad this isn't the 3-pickup Black Beauty because there was a non-zero chance that it was my friend's and I put the pickups in it. I know he at least started to sell it but I don't know where.

After a long while I convinced him to bail on Gibson because they're idiots and there are way better companies who make the singlecut style.

In this case it blends the bridge into the neck - so positions 1 and 2 can be neck-bridge and all-three.

V2 is supposedly a tad better sonically, but they changed the graphic so the led isn’t the horse’s eye any more.

Not worth it.

When I started learning to play instruments, I tried the acoustic guitar and immediately gave up because it was too hard. Then I realised my step-dad had an old Jedson bass and WEM bass amp in the attic, and that eased me into musicianship really nicely. I stuck with it for a few years and gradually added up my meagre paychecks and traded gear up and up until I ended up with a 1999 Fender Jazz in natural. I loved that bass and played it for years - but I found it really hard to actually play with other musicians - schedules and desires never matched up but I still wanted to make music. I ended up trading the bass in for a Strat which was a huge mistake in the long run.

Anyway, fast forward to today and I just want to play some low, heavy riffs again and I find a 2001 Fender Jazz in natural for sale on eBay - I'm the only bidder, for the same price I paid for my Jazz in 2010ish (the seller said he would post in his description 'at cost' but didn't put that in his shipping options)

It arrived today, in perfect nick with a hardcase and I've just been giving it a run through, through my guitar amp since my Ampeg has been delayed. It's timeless and excellent in all the best ways:

I can remember specifically wishing it had block inlays, a five string, a rosewood board, etc. etc. when I had it the first time - but now I've come to realise it's just perfect as it is.

Found this TB-3 for $125.

Seems decent so far. I was unexpectedly surprised that the USB MIDI also transports audio. No need for for an input as the signal is perfectly clean.

Then I found out someone made a VST that lets you control the TB-3 internals, and opens up some hidden features for sculpting patch sounds, then you can save them to the user bank! I can also automate all the controls via FLStudio if I want as it plays in real time.

Lots of interesting sounds. It looks like it has over 100 bass sounds easily, with room to save more. All the typical acid stuff, and more. Cool.

I was GASing for a Charvel so I bought one:

Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1.
I love it, the neck feels absolutely fantastic and the pickups (Duncan Distortions) sound great. The trem feels a little stiff but at least it means I can palm-mute without sending the thing out of tune. I think this color combo looks great, too -- very 80s metal without going all the way into hair metal gaudiness.

I got this a few weeks ago, but haven't been doing a lot of posting. I went a little more minimalist with the hardtail San Dimas, and it's probably the best guitar I've ever owned. The neck is fantastic, pickups sound great, just all around a good choice.

You run your guitar signal into two amps simultaneously, but you only put certain effects through one of the amps. These are often "wet" effects like modulation or wild delay effects. This creates a big sound because the two amps tend to sound a bit different to begin with, and then you get both the effected and "dry" signals playing simultaneously for a real nuanced sound. Basically double-tracking yourself live.

The loop switcher's just a thing to organise your effects a bit easier.

This is a "partscaster" that I just built. The body with the bizarre relicing job (not my work) is from an ESP from a friend who was getting rid of it and the neck is a cheap Chinese one from some guy on kijiji. The Bill Lawrence pickup and everything else save for the tuners are spare parts that I had lying around the house. It works! The nut just needs some adjusting.

Guys guys guys,
I found a seller in AL who has two used HT-110 Blackstar cabinets for sale. I have messaged him asking if he'd be willing to sell me both at a slight discount. I really hope he does, because (using my slide rule) I calculate this will make my rig sound 400% cooler and only increase my chances of having the police called on me for noise violations by 250%.

I hope he agrees! I am now possessed by the need to make these little mini-stacks into "full mini-stacks."

I know you've seen the picture, but now imagine these with four cabs instead of two. I am stupid music poo poo and this is my new mission in life.

If it helps... there's really not a whole lot of difference between a wet-dry-wet and a stereo setup... provided you're not turning up loud enough that poweramp distortion really factors in. I've A/B'd these two types of setups and as long as your effects are panned hard left and right, and your dry tone is panned center, I'd argue that you can *maybe* hear a difference if you're specifically listening for it, but you'd have to listen kinda hard. Actually, if your stereo speakers are pulled a couple of feet apart and you pan your dry sound to the center, your ears can even fool you into thinking there's a middle speaker there because that's where your brain will tell you the centered sound is localized.

Now, the difference in moving form a mono to stereo guitar rig can be a huge leap if you're using stereo effects, but the jump from stereo to W-D-W is actually pretty minimal as long as your poweramp tubes don't factor too much into it.
