You can definitely try to bargain hunt for an old PS3 stick, but I think getting something new might save you some time. A lot of people who want to get their first stick balk at the price and try to cut corners with something second rate, which ends up failing on them. For a new stick, you'll probably end up spending $150+. The Hori RAP 4 is pretty good. There are more expensive Qanba and Razer sticks if you feel like going premium. MadCatz made quality sticks, but they went bankrupt so all of their stuff is super expensive.

A bit late to stick chat but yeah, most retail PS3 sticks can be used on PS4, as long as the game itself supports it. Using my own collection for reference, Street Fighter V and Mortal Kombat X/XL support it. Injustice 1 and DOA 5 LR do not. I hear most SNK games support it as well.

I had a racing wheel and pedals for Midtown Madness on the PC forever ago and that poo poo was so awesome. It probably sucks for realistic games but I bet it would still be great for open world stuff.

I'm kind of surprised that SSDs would give a noticeable performance boost on the PS4. They are a waste of money on the PS3; the system has to constantly encrypt/decrypt the internal storage, which creates a huge bottleneck and effectively slows SSDs down to HDD speeds. I would have thought it'd be the same for the PS4.
