At what point did Dany become completely retarded btw. Her POV chapters don't convey a character that is thinking clearly. I think it is pretty obvious, in book five, that she is under some sort of evil influence, with all of the witchdoctors and stuff around her and especially an old rotting hag in a green burkha.
After reading Foundation and Empire, this would be a nice GURMy twist to have ported into the series.

Because of Melisandre's 'Glimmer' magic, she can create visual illusions and manipulate light, it's not the real lightbringer.

Which is much more dramatic and to the point, and works perfectly fine, as well as shows how much fat can be trimmed from the books without much loss.

I like watching this happen - its tough with book adaptions at first. For example, look at the harry potter series - first movie was extremely literal interpretation, and it really suffered for it. By the third movie they were taking some liberties, and using things that just looked better in film and you get better movies out of it. It feels like they are stretching their wings a bit now that they have the following, and its working well. I liked how they did Ramsey - liked the varys/wizard/tyrion scene they added - the switch to loras makes sense ( do we really need to know about that other loving brother ). I think there were some other things I noticed this episode but don't remember.

You know - they are going to run out of material really loving soon. They are going to carve the poo poo out of FOC - there is WAY too much bullshit filler, and people aren't going to allow a full season that ends with "meanwhile... back at the wall". Anyway, they are going to be passing GRRM 2 years at the most, and I'd say much ealier. They need to understand where the loving plot is going so they can intelligently write the next two season.

OH YEAH! I remember the other scene - Joffrey and Marge walking around talking about the dragons - I thought that was a great scene, fleshing out that TV relationship.

really enjoyed this last episode, and hope to see more like this.

Basically lightbringer and the dragons both decrease entropy within the Westeros thermal system. The Others increase entropy. Because the system must strive for thermodynamic equilibrium, an increase in the power of either side makes the other more powerful as well.

Because the fake lightbringer only released a cool light, it did not decrease entropy. Since all of the peasants in Westeros are scientists, they recognized this and knew it was bullshit.

Loras isn't gonna be in the kings guard, at least not yet. It wouldn't make sense since they're setting him to replace Willas as the Tyrell's planned husband for Sansa, and kings guard can't marry.

Now there'll be some quiet in this town.
It's going to paint a pretty different picture of the Tyrells either way, since in the books they were genuinely trying to help Sansa in the least committal way possible (marrying her to the crippled brother), and in the show they're either genuinely going to attempt to marry her Loras (who could probably do a hell of a lot better than the daughter of a family in open rebellion that's about to pared down considerably) which would imply that the Queen of Thorns crazy altruistic, or they're banking on Loras getting into the Kingsguard. I doubt that having Loras be a Kingsguard member would be that big a chip in Highgarden's pile so I feel like it's leaning more towards the former.

Sophia

The heart wants what the heart wants.
Well, in the show they seemed to draw the clear line that Sansa is basically the key to the north once Robb gets murdered, and since the Tyrells are now aligned with the Lannisters they can probably help speed that along. I get the sense that in show world it's less about Sansa and more about wanting their daughter to be queen and their son to be married to the heir to Winterfell. I can't remember if that was implied in the books, but I don't think it's altruism in the show.

If so it makes me wonder like El Hefe said if Tywin is going to suss it out and gently caress them over with Loras in the Kingsguard overtly, making everything a bit more obviously political.

Nickoten
Oct 16, 2005

Now there'll be some quiet in this town.
That's a good point. After all, Tyrion marrying Sansa does kind of accomplish that same goal for the Lannisters. It just seems like Winterfell is valuable but not valuable enough to "spend" Loras on, which is why it makes sense in the books for them to marry her to the crippled brother. Not that I'm against paring down the extended family, of course. I guess maybe I'm just splitting hairs, but it just seems like they can get more power by marrying Loras to someone else, like a Dornish prince of something, I dunno.

Edit: Meant to say princess, but who knows how progressive Westeros is going to get when Margaery starts running the show? :v:

Considering that Willas is heir to Highgarden, he's way more valuable than Loras, the second third son. He's also sure as poo poo not leaving Highgarden for King's Landing, which means he's the one that can be used to get Sansa out of the capital whereas that's less present with Loras.

(The Tyrells want to marry her off for other reasons, such as the suspicion that Joffrey is planning to keep Sansa around as a rape-consort even after marrying Margaery, which increases the likelihood of some kingly bastards and could cause problems down the line for Margaery and the Tyrells.)
