Shredded onions, cucumbers, tomatoes and sometimes pepperoncinis, but yeah those are the fixings for the kebab. Although my friend claims he got one that had some caesar salad in it once which seems possible if not very unlikely.

Cream-of-Plenty posted:While I am morally opposed to eating a woman's moonblood, I roll a little bit of my STD-free semen into these free-trade brownies I make. They look great, smell great, and taste great. Cream-of-Plenty indeed! Now then, this is "kroppkaka", a south-east swedish dish I just can't stand: Essentially, it's pork with some (bland) spices wrapped in a ball of mashed potato, all of which is then boiled and served with (lots of) melted butter and lingonberry jam. Doesn't sound too bad (minus that lake of butter), but I have never tried one where the mashed outer layer wasn't just bland and the pork core a rubbery, weird-tasting mess. It might not rank up there with the insects and what have you, but it is still a travesty to do to pork and potatoes... Doesn't help that it was commonly served as school lunch down here back when I went to school, meaning it wasn't just the above but also produced in bulk as quickly and cheaply as possible.

The lingonberry is there to cover up the taste of everything else.

Edit: it should perhaps be mentioned that this region of Sweden used to be quite poor, so this is definitely poor mans food. Doesn't excuse not spicing it up these days, though. Kroppkakor are delicious. Sorry about your poor school lunch version. It's salt pork, onions and allspice wrapped in a potato dumpling. Good stuff!

I don't get the boiling either. Seems it should work if fried, like a patty. My partner makes tuna patties for our kid. Tinned tuna mixed with mashed potato, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs and an egg, rolled into balls like rissoles or flattened into small patties then fried. I don't why you couldn't do that with minced pork.

Yeah, deep-fry them. They'll go crispy on the outside and stay soft in the middle. Like a croquette.

You can fry kroppkakor too, that works. The potato dumpling is made with flour and eggs, so it's sort of like a very large gnocchi in texture. It's boiled in salted water and shouldn't turn mushy at all. There's regional differences too, with bitter fights over the supreme version. Smålandskroppkakor are made with boiled potatoes, and Ölandskroppkakor are made with raw and boiled potatoes. Up north, they eat palt, which is usually made with barley flour and one variety that has pigs blood mixed in with the dumpling dough. It's pork, potatoes and butter, what's not to like?

Pfff. I just posted this in the GWS Vegemite thread last night. My man LA Beast eats that poo poo "like a boss", as he would say. Without sipping water and crying like a baby. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPynEc0LpNs Having seen that, now I REALLY want to one-up, and challenge both of them to eat 3 jars of Marmite. I could do this. I would make the video except I am so broke I can't afford one jar of Marmite. Also, the only video camera I have is the limited resources on a Fuji Finepix DSLR.

I've always had kroppkakor (the småland version) with cream instead of butter, and always loved it. Y'all should try that instead of butter, because that sounds terrible.
