For my next purchase I think I'm gonna have to go with this dumb thing I have no real use for. An elk or bison could charge into my living room, right? When I move to Colorado in January anyway.

Not that great, but good enough for hunting. ate shit on live tv has issued a correction as of 03:28 on Mar 27, 2017 |

good interesting article but it has a blurb that i loving hatequote:"It has been interesting watching the LGBT and nerd communities get a little militant," Kruse said. "I've had many conversations where people refer to the [Concealed Carry License] as their 'license to carry a wand'—as in Harry Potter."

op knives > guns because they're quieter the quieter they are, the more likely we are to use them the more likely we are to use them, the less lip we get guns for show, knives for a pro for reals tho everybody should have at least a decent quality hunting knife and be comfortable with it. they're far less expensive than a gun and there's next to no regulations about owning them. or some hanzo steel and a copy of that book about samurai swords being effective personal defense on the street. edit: here it is

A used pocket pistol like a Ruger LCP is about the same price as a OK-to-decent quality hunting knife, and there are plenty of regulations on knife length and type in many states If you're actually talking about defending yourself, getting within arms reach of your assailant is generally considered a bad idea unless you're sure you're much stronger/capable than they are

I hope no one itt is stupid enough to advocate a knife for self-defense. But I'd agree that a knife has a lot more utility then a gun.

Freaking Crumbum posted:no it's more this: If you feel the need to get a weapon to defend yourself, get the right tool for the job, a handgun. If you don't feel the need to get a weapon to defend yourself, then don't buy a knife as some half-assed compromise. Buy a knife for it's other utility. Nothing wrong with a good knife for all kinds of things. Apples to Apples, I have a shotgun for hunting. I didn't buy it to defend myself, I bought it for hunting birds. If I were in a situation where I needed a weapon quickly for some reason, I would certainly use the shotgun, but that was not even on my radar as a possibility when I bought it since I've judged the risk of being attacked and needing a weapon as near-zero. If I was worried about getting attacked suddenly for some reason, then I'd go buy a handgun.

a good knife is something everyone should have but its utility at defense is laughable and they're basically only good for straight up murdering someone fairly quietly. If you're paranoid about home defense but also terrified of guns just go buy a little league baseball bat.
