Well, he figured that Caesar was trying to dissolve the republic and rule Rome unchecked, so he threw in with the conspirators against his friend. Unfortunately for him, his efforts to defend his actions were undone by Mark Antony's eloquence, and he ultimately committed suicide after a military defeat.

I appreciate that the reward for good murder is additional murder opportunities. I mean, if it was anything else, who knows if you'd have the skill points for it?

Not sure what's going to happen with Irma heading my way. If I don't post for it bit it's (probably) because I don't have power.

Also there's a reason Brutus didn't go for the power armor other than variety's sake, which will become clear when Julius gets it.

I decided to just get this out really quickly. This was a fun update because I've never used the bolter before. Wait... bolter?! Is this Warhammer 40k?? Read the update to find out! Also featuring a conversation with the Zamedi demon I decided not to do in the Julius path.

Was wondering why no one found ancient guns.

I mean, the bolter's cool but it doesn't seem to be primarily a weapon. Are there lasers or something later?

The highly advance killer robots just use regular swords, it does seem like the empire skiped weapon development, or rather went from swords straight to wmd's.

Binged this thread. It's one of those games I wouldn't play myself but would watch someone else play. I appreciate how everyone is an rear end in a top hat except the ones who aren't smart or cynical enough to be assholes. I also like the low-fantasy Roman/Arabian setting as opposed to yet another vaguely European CRPG.

He actually has a pretty blinkered view of some things since he was limited to being just inside his tower. For example, the demon says his master was 100% loyal, yet Gaelius says the Magi were the ones who tried to blow up the tower. Something went wrong there.

This lp inspired me to give this game a try. I decided to play as a merchant thinking non-combat backgrounds meant a lower chance of dying horribly.

I got murdered almost immediately after finishing the first mission. I knew that deal was too good to be true :argh: 10/10 would play again.

Uhhh, I think you will find that our proto-Communist brethren here are not thieves, as they are, as your character so keenly noting, expropriating only what has already been stolen from the masses

I am sure, given the nature of the game thus far and the general American view on socialism, that their small revolution will go splendidly for all involved that deserve good endings

I really need to play this again. I last played some time before release and I don't remember 4 item slots, or being able to get a decent amount of cash in the first city. I think even the starting stat point allotment may have been different.

You technically always had 4 items slots, but the belt slots just let you switch in and out 1 handed items/weapons to your main slots at no AP cost (unless you de-equipped a two-handed weapon in the process, that still cost AP). Using items directly from belt is something they tried in AoD spinoff Dungeon Rats and decided to back port to AoD post-release. It was a good decision, there's more build variety now that you can even use weapons from belt slots while still having a two handed weapon or a one handed weapon and a shield. They back ported a bunch of other DR changes to AoD too.

There was always a lot of cash in Teron though. Keeping the money from Aemolas village + doing Milty quest is already like 1700 imperials. Killing everybody and taking their money / selling their stuff is probably like another 500-1000, depending on trading skill / OCD in looting dead enemies. I don't even know how much you could get from stealing, lets be conservative and say another 250-500, which would be before they added the stealing opportunities from the inn and from stalls. Then there's faction rewards, Merchants in particular pay a decent amount. Oh and you can get an extra 1000 for resolving the noble kidnapping by keeping the ransom money.

They didn't change stat allocation, but they did change skill allocation. Skills used to go from 1-100. One to one hundred! It was insane. Some people criticize the game for encouraging saving/reloading to pass skill checks. That's going to be an issue with any game that has skill checks, but imagine if the skills went from one to one hundred! I went on their official forums to complain about how insane it was that you're encouraged to save/reload increasing skills in one point increments to see if a check required exactly 44 skill or 46 skill or 49 skill etc. One of the devs responded poorly. I was sorely tempted, as a small, sad person who holds internet grudges, to go back to their forum and say "I told you so!" the day they changed skills to be from 1 - 10. Yes you still have the same issue (which they also took other steps to address), but believe me it's much better than how it used to be. Also I obviously can't say it was because of that interaction we had, but that dev was noticeably more polite in responding to criticism later on.

Yeah when I played there was no stealing from market stalls, although I'm sure I could have gotten more quest money if I had really tried to explore all my options.

My first playthrough was as a combat-heavy dodge/dagger assassin and it involved a lot of save-scumming combat while keeping my stealth/critical strike high enough to pass as many of those checks as I could. It was pretty hard but even before those quality of life improvements (and the graphics update, which helps a lot) it was still a pretty worthwhile experience. I had the most fun rerolling different characters to check out all the different starts because they can be really different and you get a great variety for a starting area.

I played about 10 hours of Dungeon Rats last winter and I just can't recommend it. It doesn't have the charm that this game does and it's a real grind.

I'd say of all the indie old school RPG's I've played over the last few years, this and Underrail are my favorites by far. There are things I don't like about each one, and there are more modern-style RPG's I like more, but they both definitely feel like a thoughtful evolution of the Fallout 2/Arcanum vein of RPG's.

The replayability is definitely the game's best attribute. There's still actually things I haven't seen.

And Dungeon Rats is rough. I want to like and recommend it, but it's basically the hardcore AoD combat experience. That's all they intended it to be, but that doesn't mean someone should buy and spend time on it even if they liked AoD.
