Does Sonic the Hedgehog count? And nthing the Steven Universe thing. I never knew what Steven Universe was and then one day it was loving everywhere. I personally know at least one adult irl who has gotten into "shipping wars" on loving Tumblr over this cartoon. As in, internet screaming matches over fictional lesbian space rocks, and whether or not the people drawing fanart are massive racists because they drew one a lighter shade of purple or something.

^ Sonic might have been at one point but pretty sure the worst of that crowd have probably moved on to MLP and DBZ and all that. Even its diehard fans know that the darker-fantasy Saturday morning Sonic show is dead and never coming back, especially now that the Archie comic is dead due to politics. I'll always feel a sense of relief that the shut-ins and weirdos and tumblristas never latched on to Regular Show. For whatever reason it just never got on their radar; my guess is maybe because the front half of the episode plot setups actually did a pretty good job capturing the start of adult life? Creeps and losers love escapism, and the surreal stuff probably wasn't up their alley either. Agent Escalus fucked around with this message at 07:03 on Feb 11, 2018 |

What people watch during their spare time shouldn't really matter, but when things become obsessive and starts affecting other people in the public it becomes an issue. So, that would be MLP, with the creepy questions to creators at events and creating physical porn which they tried to sell. Rick and Morty fans for the whole schezwan sauce stupidity. Meme-ing was fine, but causing havoc at stores over your stupid sauce? Also, when you are on a counter going "REEEEE REEEE!", it doesn't really make a difference if you are "legitimately" doing it or trolling.

You can draw a pretty straight line from South Park’s 2000s era “both sides equally bad” dogma to the alt-right of today.

Rick and Morty and it's not even loving close. Runner up would probably be the collective group who use the word fandom.

emoji posted:South Park sucks but it neither invented nor popularized that already pervasive concept. I don't know, the South Park Republicans of yesterday most likely became the edge lord Altrighters of today thanks to their failure to grasp irony. In retrospect I think South Park could be occasionally funny, but only when they're mocking celebrities, bits of pop culture, and other topics which are of little to no importance. If an episode involved Cartman being an evil hosed up prick, Butters being a sweet utterly naive child, or the Goths burning down hot topic it was perfectly palatable and worth a chuckle. That being said Man Bear Pig is loving stupid and easily the most cringe worthy episode. Also the episode dealing with trans people was embarrassingly reductionist and simplistic, and I'm not some kind of hardcore SJW. All in all its a mediocre show made by mildly funny late 90s libertarians who either failed or still fail to grasp just how bankrupt and horrible their ideology is. Sadly it was only able to inflict some societal damage and dumb down the collective narrative largely because Matt Stone and Trey Parker aren't completely lacking in talent.
