I kinda remember Marky coming onto the scene, and he's made some nice sounds, but as said, I'm old, and the early/mid 90's stuff will always get my vote. For someone new to jungle/D&B, take your pick, and newer stuff might be more accessible? Also, can't be said enough even if it's obvious but jungle tracks were made to be mixed so if some earlier stuff seems simplistic or repetitive you need to hear it mixed, preferably live and with some decent MC'ing. A youtube clip (that was 96 not 97) can't do justice to the vanished atmosphere of earlier jungle clubs, but it was darker, bit gangsterish, and something like voodoo. Gunshots optional.

Oh, if we're going to throw old school into the mix, I always liked Embee, DJ Ron, Congo Natty, and what not. It's really interesting because these are the guys that you find while looking for the more modern names in Jungle: Shitmat and FFF, to name a few. It is interesting because the choice isn't all that binary as some seem to say it is: I cannot compare the sound of Remarc to Shitmat at all, less so FFF.

I feel like him and FFF are almost one in the same, as far as their raggacore sounds go. Bit of a sampler if you haven't heard of Warped Dynamics:

Those two were from his "Volume 4" 12". Scope them out and buy 'em if you can.

So on the Discogs article of DJ Marky's "The Master Plan", it has the original tracks from its release in 2007. However, I checked its Beatport page and it has a whole new release date - a more current one just last May. I know I sound more confused than I should be, but could someone help me look into this? Did Innerground re-edit the album or something? Might be able to help if I said that the original release label it had in 2007 was INN 023CD, and now it's INN023CDIT. Not sure if the "IT" is a ubiquitous addition to re-edits or not, so if someone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

The re-edit has some great tracks, though. Seems to have a lot more stuff from him and XRS, and the liquid drum and bass tracks on this seem more euphoric:

Yeah the one on Beatport is a re-release which is why the catalogue numbers are different. Labels will often add suffixes to catalog numbers in order to differentiate between the different formats/versions of an album/EP.

I've just been on a Hospital Records binge listening to their entire back catalogue (NHS1 to NHS127), god drat there is some good poo poo in there (Definite Friday 5 material in there which by the way we sorely need to resurrect, paging Riot.EXE).

Logistics used to be a lot more aggressive in his tracks and I can't believe that I've never really listened to Q Project before. Also whatever happened to Landslide?

Landslide is still about, followed on the Dubstep path post-Broken Beat (really wish Hospital had stuck with that sound, mainly why I know them). Had a fantastic single on Black Acre a few years ago in the form of Dreams & Visions, then had an album out a year or two ago. Sadly it was a digital only thing and like a lot of digi-only things floated out there with little fanfair which was a shame. Really deserved a proper release.

Like I said I mainly listened to the Broken stuff coming out of the Hospital camp way back then, but even I liked a lot of the actual D&B stuff on there in the early 00s. Landslide's Down Down was great, and Delta's Submerged/Roots was another one I really dug too. The last time I really properly cared to listen to London Elektricity was around their Billion Dollar Gravy LP which was top shelf. The remixes that came off it were total perfection too, Landslide at Round The Corner while Phuturistix tackled Different Drum.

Billion Dollar Gravy is a fantastic album, part of which I believe is due to the relative simplicity of the tracks (Cum Dancing is a perfect example and my personal favourite from the album).

IMO, the only recent release from London Elektricity which captures this simplicity is their 2008 album Syncopated City. Looking back, the album actually seems sort of odd next to Power Ballads (2005) and Yikes! (2011).

Oh and that Phuturistix remix of Different Drum is awesome (If I'm not mistaken it's from the 10" release NHS63Z).

Edit (Because I'm bored and want to post about D&B): regarding Logistics it's really striking how aggressive his earlier work was. For instance, compare Thunderchild (2005, NHS96) with We Are One (2012, NHS205).
