An uncountable number, to be sure.

They mentioned both things. He was the second seat and he never graduated. They never said why, but I assume that he bet his expulsion on a shokugeki and lost.

Looks like I may want to read it from the beginning or at least a little before that if a new season isn't announced soon, though, there's some extra stuff in 59 and 60 that the anime wasn't able to show since it was wrapping up.

The Shokugeki system is now a kangaroo court. Welp. Maybe if the person accepting the challenges wasn't an opportunistic rear end who's main trick is winning by any means necessary, it might have still had some odd legitimacy.

If they still plan on resolving this via cooking, I'd imagine some Kaiji level planning shenanigans to make sure the judges not only taste the food, but judge it based on its quality.

Or Dojima and the other alums can bust in and save the day.

I get that impression but I think that having The first few AzSoc Shokugeki be Eizan fronted is the prefect way to scare anyone who's not balls to the wall about challenging the status quo off of it as being a prole is far more conducive to everyone in the AzSoc System

So even if he's Out on his arse in the following chapters, I get the impression the damage will have already been done.

This is amazing! Eizan has had some of the best expressions recently. :allears:

re:Chapter 140: This could go either one of two ways:

1. Eizan got to the 9th seat of the Elite Ten by bribing his way. He has no actual skill in cooking (or at least not enough cooking skill that's usual of an Elite Ten). Thus, we see that Soma can possibly easily beat him in a fair and square Shokugeki. Not that this is going to easily happen. That said, he has demonstrated that his knowledge of business is pretty solid and he's skilled at pulling strings. I have certain problems with this theory, but it does fit Eizan's character.

2. Eizan does have the cooking skill to be a formidable opponent and worthy of his Elite Ten spot, but being so blatant about rigging the match and broadcasting it so that it's plain for all to see fits the AzSoc's agenda better as it further shows off the power of those in control, showing that the sole hope of going against them is now unreliable and that they can expel anyone who tries to stand up against them if they want to. That means it'll be harder for Soma to beat him in a Shokugeki, but I think the focus will be on getting rid of the rigged aspects anyway before Soma and co. will face him anyways. I think this might be the most probable theory.

As I said before, having Erina make the challenge is an easy solution because there's no way Azami would allow Erina to be expelled in a kangaroo court. They'd have to at least try the food. I won't be surprised if it turns out Erina is actually far above No. 10 level, she just stays at a low spot for appearances.

I don't know how much more perfect an antagonist he could be to trigger Erina acknowledging Soma's cooking. He's taken over the entire school (far more than any antagonist has done so far), has a very complicated relationship with Erina, and their connection is what could put her into a situation where she has to acknowledge Soma.

I mean, it'd be pretty natural for Erina to finally try Soma's cooking in the last few chapters and have that be the last crazy foodgasm we see, but it's not like there aren't other plots to pursue after that plot thread is tied up. I could totally see Erina admitting that Soma is a top-tier chef, her falling in love with him to the same degree that every other female in the manga does (which she basically has already), and announcing that she's staying in Polar Star even after her dad has been ousted from power. I also think that Soma needs to end up in the Elite Ten to get the votes needed to boot out Erina's dad, so then you'd have three Elite Ten members in one little dorm and the rest conspiring against them since they figure the dorm members are conspiring against them as revenge for ousting the Chairman, when really all they're doing over there is coming up with crazy new dishes.

One issue with bringing Erina in, either as a contestant or a judge, is that as soon as her father knows where she is he's bringing the hammer down and I'm assuming will basically kidnap her, or just psychologically manipulate her into coming home again. I definitely think she'll be the key to them getting an actual Shokugeki, but I don't expect even that to come easily. The other path would be the spice specialist who won the Fall tournament joining forces with Soma and making a dish with such a good smell they have to try it, and then it tastes so good they can't help but vote for it. Remember we saw the teacher who took him in off the streets crying because of the announced disbanding of the research societies, I don't think he'll be too happy about that. Then again, we might see him trying that tactic on his own shortly.

Azami coming in and changing everything is pretty much the most dramatic thing that's happened to this point, so maybe end it with the end of his arc? I'm assuming Soma's going to end up on the Elite Ten by the end of it too, which is a decent place to leave off. I don't know how far in the anime got though since I didn't watch it, so I'm not sure how much material that would leave for it.

She's already tried his cooking before. In fact, the last couple of chapters was the first time we've seen her refuse. The only other time she was approached to do it she did it in exchange for a comically small bribe.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but seeing the situation I'm more interested in how Erina is going to handle things rather than Souma.

We all know how he's going to react (and we've already seen the beginning of it this chapter): he's a loose cannon, a maverick that doesn't play by the rules, yadda yadda, smash the establishment.

Erina, on the other hand, has been struggling these past few chapter. Her usual haughty superiority is completely gone, and seeing how she acts it's pretty clear that she knows perfectly well that her father's a complete shitheel, but can't bring herself to do anything so far, mostly because she was a victim of child abuse coming from her father. I'm really interested in seeing if she's going to overcome that, and how she's going to behave afterwards if she does.

I could see Eizen trying to bribe his way through again and Erina stopping him by simply telling the judges she will never taste their food again if they don't do a proper judging as a thank you to the dorm for being generally nice to her. Depends on who judges and the like but I would guess Erina will have a role to play in it.

I had a thought on how Eizan could be beaten: by making the food that the school is now teaching. The judges are supporters of Azami, so they can't just outright reject the food without making themselves fall out of Azami's graces. And since Eizan is just going through the paces and isn't being serious, he may dig his own grave.

Probably a bit of both. Like with how he said he doesn't care about Erina's circumstances and he just wants her to accept his food, which coincidentally means helping her through her problems.

It feels like we were supposed to get more stuff out of the Polar Star dorm guys up until this arc. They played a pretty big role up until the Autumn tournament but then the top 8 became the most focused on characters, so they sort of fell off to the wayside. I'm hoping they get to be involved in this arc. Soma and Erina definitely will be but i'd like to see the other guys get to do some stuff as well, the dorm means more to them anyway.

Edit: Basically i'm just waiting for Isshiki to get involved.

With the direction Tootsuki is going, Souma will be both unwelcome and it won't provide any value to him. Hanging out with his friends at the dorm and learning from them is pretty much the only thing left for him there.
