Nah, 3's endgame is indeed grade-A horseshit. Now if we were talking the DS version instead...haha you would not have played that far in that absurd piece of garbage. And if, yes, it would be worse.

The only really important thing I can think of was that he was dead, everything else he either tells you or is obvious (having to use a guardian for the final summon, for instance). Plus it helps clue the player in on whats going on with Tidus when somehow a dead dude was able to spend 15 years in Tidus's life. Auron is awesome.

Both versions of FF3's end game are pretty bad, but DS's game balance is pretty off at times, where the game over-compensates for the three-enemy limit by buffing the enemies to crazy levels, while a lot of jobs were nerfed in favor of balance in a game built around directly upgrading jobs. The NES one still doesn't have save points and it's still easily possible to wipe if you're unprepared and end up having to do a lot of content over, but at least once you get Sages you pretty much never have to worry about MP again since they have an insane amount and get all forms of magic (including the superior version of summons). I personally like FF3 NES's end game because I'm insane (and because the music's great), but it does have a lot of bullshit that I'm surprised they never bothered to fix in the later versions, like the lack of save points in long dungeons, or the point of no return where you can accidentally fight an unbeatable boss. FF3 DS still boggles my mind with its design decisions.

I'm replaying FFX in the HD collection and the one thing that stands out to me having not played it for a while is goddamn is the opening badly paced. As bad as FFXIII's was at least you were going straight forward to a specific goal. They could have cut the entire 'Tidus looks for firewood' segment and lost absolutely nothing for example. It gets better once you get to the first Sin boss fight but man does that take a while. FFX-2's opening is breakneck in comparison.

I was playing the GBA 2 and the DS 3. I'm just glad that they're both over. Time for 4...I might skip After Years because I finally tracked down a copy of 5 for the GBA at a hole in the wall video store, and I want to get to it.

After Years isn't very good anyway, so it's not like you're missing much. Though it does have a cool subplot involving Rubicante and Edge.

I'm doing the exact same thing as you right now (playing all of them), and am just about at the end of FF4:TAY. I'd say skip TAY altogether and just do the main FF4. Like someone said earlier, the stories are mostly a rehash of FF4. After doing each character story's challenge dungeon I almost don't have the motivation to finish the final story (The Crystals). I'm so sick of Cait Sith types and their dumb Blaster move. On a good note, having done all the challenge dungeons my characters are really powerful to the point where I accidentally killed some Eidolons instead of waking them up. I don't plan on using Rydia anyway, I like Palom & Porom for my mages.

FFX's post game consumed me. If everyone in the world put in 200 hours in Skyrim or Morrowind or whatever, then my Skyrim was Final Fantasy X. I did blitzball. I mean, I owned blitzball. I consumed that poo poo. I broke it down. I conscripted all the guys. Chocobo races? Dodged all them balls man. I beat all the bonus bosses, all the secret dungeons, I ransacked the sphere grid...it was the first time my game time ever broke three digits and even then I could barely beat just a handful of the Original Creations, and I couldn't dodge the lightning bolts for poo poo either. To think of even remotely attempting that again...it makes me winded.

Simply Simon posted:Yeah, I guess "the one I have" indicates that he owns it, my bad. I never played 3NES, but I know that there's a fan translation and, you know, emulators. Not even save state and frame skip makes FF3 worth playing. Even when you do the memory trick to get a shitload of items early on it's still the worst of all FF games. Even FF2 is better, especially the iOS version.

Still trucking through Bravely Default and it rules. Yeah, it's technically not Final Fantasy but it's only missing Chocobos and Moogles basically so, eh, gently caress it. All the spells are the same, and it even has Doomtrain. Anyway, guessing everybody in the thread has it already probably, but there is no reason to subject yourself to things like FF3DS when Bravely Default exists.Barudak posted:FFX-3 should just be a Bayonetta style action game where you play as Auron. I'm at the end of FFX again. For some reason, I don't mind just killing dudes and cruisin the sphere grid. Kinda fun to see your characters (needlessly) get more powerful and get weird abilities and stuff. I forgot how tedious some of it is though. The sidequests. Dodging lightning. Getting rare materials to craft up awesome armor, even if you bribe and do everything you can to get them faster. Jesus.
