Ugh, I'm fine with the signing in concept, especially if somehow he continues to exceed expectations in the playoffs. But seems like too much money. I guess it all depends on what the "up to" part of up to $4.5 million is, haven't seen details. If incentives are forming a large part of it, that's a lot better.

I still think the Bills would be better served not going for one-year contracts right now. Save that cap space and roll it over once you figure out how this team is going to function. If everything is clicking halfway through the season, you need a bit of cap space for the trade deadline (or even some kind of late season FA signing).

I'd be surprised if even half of that $4.5 mil is fully guaranteed. Probably a bunch of incentives he is unlikely to hit because they require consistently catching footballs

So half is, I believe, Not Likely To Be Earned incentives, so will go against the 2025 cap, and a quarter is a signing bonus. Hopefully the rest is non guaranteed salary in case they need to but him early.

Ok, I can definitely support this signing for the most part then. Hitting the upper bounds of those incentives would mean he's been a big contribution to the team.

Lol he's 100% right about Pat Tillman, but I didn't even know that was a nutty conspiracy theory. I thought everybody knew that it was friendly fire.

I did not know about his journal being confiscated or any of that poo poo though but it sounds about right.

I'm surprised the NFL didn't confiscate it since they spent all those years propping up his corpse.

I don’t think the friendly fire part came out or became common knowledge until a few years after his death. People who didn’t follow that story or the NFL (Where Tillman comes up every year around the time of his death and for Veteran’s Day) and only remember the initial reporting (Which was massive) could have missed that.

If the Jets don’t at least make the playoffs this season, this has to be the worst trade in franchise history for them?

Usually when people list the teams worst trades for the team, the Belichik trade is usually number one. But in all honesty getting anything for a guy who doesn’t want to coach your team is a win. Plus who could have possibly predicted the weird run of events that would kick off his Pats run.

It's a bad trade for sure, but given that he gave some money back and the pick they lost wasn't too high it's nowhere near the scale of the Watson or Wilson trades. I don't think it'll be remembered as an all time gently caress up, just a risk that didn't work.

I would rate "persisting with Zach Wilson" as a worse recent Jets mistake tbh. People tear ligaments every year, it doesn't make their contracts mistakes

WE ALL KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN
If Rodgers is washed this year or gets hurt again, then it's obviously a bad trade. I don't really think it's a catastrophic one, though, given the money and picks involved. The real catastrophic move for the Jets was drafting Zach Wilson, which necessitated the scramble to find a new QB.

Drafting Wilson was at least sound from a process perspective. He was a fairly clean prospect and a consensus no brainer for the Jets at #2.

The Rodgers trade was way more suspect. Extremely risky move to trade for a then nearly-40 year old QB coming off his worst career year and hiring his dopey pal as OC.

I just mean in Franchise history. It feels like the Jets haven’t made a lot of trades. Most of the lists I googled real quick had the Tebow trade, and the trades for the Darnold and Sanchez draft picks. I honestly can’t think of too many trades

To be fair they didn't have to hire Hackett as part of the trade. The Jets did that all on their own before they even got Rogers lol.

Oh, I see. Well, I guess so, but I'm surprised the bar is that low.

In other news, are the Jets likely to be funny enough next season for me to boo them in person at their London game? Vs the vikes, who will probably be good?

Drafting him was fine. Sticking with him after two seasons of sub replacement garbage when you have a 39 year old qb1 and want to be a contender was gross negligence

Friend, it is always a good time to boo the Jets.

On paper they have a very strong roster. But they did last year too and uh yeah. Also mcmagic is probably right that the Vikings being good or not really depends on whether JJ McCarthy hits. Cause it’s him or Sam Darnold back there

The Jets lose every time you say this. The only time they didn’t was when they played the Hackett Broncos, Wilson was out and the Broncos started someone that would have been 3rd string on any other team. And the Jets still barely won, mostly cause the Broncos QB threw a bunch of INTs

I think it's real as well and I don't like the home opener being Pats on TNF.

That means I need to make my trip down be against the loving Broncos and while a tomato can is fine, it's not really a compelling matchup even if Zach Wilson is starting.
