My favourite Chapo fluctuates all the time. Just when I think Matt's the best, Felix some absurd cultural parallel that blows my mind. Then Virgil has an incredible one liner. Then Amber has a great observation or Will perfectly articulates why some terrible pundit's is just so pathetic.

I don't get the Amber hate at all but I think this is a crucial point in general. It cannot be overstated how different talking politics online is to talking politics IRL. Cynicism and backbiting abound online, but when you're talking with people IRL - especially people who broadly share your political goals - mutual trust is something that gets established pretty quickly in my experience. Matt made a great point once about how important it is to ignore online politics in favor of meatspace politics because there are people online who are basically "goths but for politics." Amber seems like the most IRL politically active of the bunch and so she tends to be the most insightful.

Kobayashi posted:It's the daily show for the left, lol Yes in that what made the daily show revolutionary was the video department and their ability to find a politician saying not x when just today than had said X. Chapo did that in a way with the reading series by finding the ridiculous poo poo these people said in their own words and well just read it. What attracted me about the humor though is that it in the early days really reminded me of the feeling of LF with smart people effort posting and even smarter people shitposting. Felix still knows way too much to have not been a good in that era.

prefect posted:Matt just lost some ground in my "favorite Chapo" rankings. I went to uni with Matt Smith. He's a horrendous sex pest. Friends in the theatre department were warned not be be alone with him, and to lock the doors when getting changed. Several years later, his name came up in conversation with my sister-in-law. Unprompted, she related the story of a party she attended at a house he lived in in London, before he was famous: she was told someone wanted to talk to her upstairs and directed into a bedroom where Matt Smith was lying naked on the bed. He ordered her to "strip and get on". Man's a creepy oval office and Cushbomb is right on this one
