Basically, Atlus is trying super hard to control spoilers. See their post here. They are threatening to hand out channel strikes and account suspensions if you play past a certain date in the game.

It's more than natively speak Japanese, but I doubt it has as many people who speak it as a second language. Edit: Also wasn't my point of picking an 'obscure' language, it was just the first one I thought of that people in North America were unlikely to speak. "Spoilers" was probably just Atlas USA trying to soften the blow. Atlus is a subsidiary of SEGA now and they're notorious notorious for these sorts of bans. They're banning streams of Puyo Puyo Tetris (a puzzle game). I guess some way or another they think streaming will hurt sales.

It comes from a research paper that came out of Japan recently that claimed that streams and let's play seriously negatively impact sales of games. The paper was decried as being poorly-researched, not peer-reviewed at all, and overall just a bad piece of science that made the exact wrong conclusion based on past history, but Japanese game companies still ate it up and are basically following what it says anyway since it's basically what they wanted to hear in the first place. Sega's just the first company to be putting it into practice.

Well Japanese game industry, it was nice knowing you. If you keep on this course in a few years it will be just Square Enix, Sony, and Nintendo left because nobody outside of Japan will be buying your games (because you don't buy ads and you're banning your major source of free advertising) and there aren't enough people in Japan buying games to sustain you outside of like, a handful of doujin outfits and the aforementioned big three publishers who also own larger international studios.
