http://teamcovenant.com/star-wars-x-wing/my-impression-of-wave-9 I really like the TC blog. Neat insights into wave 9 ships and upgrades. Fearlessness is probably going to be really fun on Shadowcasters and party buses, due to having a humungous firing arc. Fenn Rau (28) Push the Limit (3) Autothrusters (2) Concord Dawn Protector (1) Zuckuss (28) Veteran Instincts (1) Dengar (3) Tractor Beam (1) Mist Hunter (0) Old Teroch (26) Veteran Instincts (1) Autothrusters (2) Concord Dawn Protector (1) Total: 97 View in Yet Another Squad Builder Here's a list idea I've been kicking around. The idea here is to fly Old Teroch and Fenn Rau close together with Teroch on the inside turns to make use of his token stripping ability. Zuckuss is there with an accurate tractor beam to manipulate range on small based ships during the combat phase and/or force the targets to spend tokens to avoid the tractor beam effects.

I did not realise R3-A2 worked on the ARC's rear arc. Interesting.

The winner of the biggest X-Wing tournament ever had Howlrunner, 3 Black and 3 APs. Swarms have always been good, they are just difficult to fly and require a lot of skill and don't leave a lot of room for error.

I hate this guy so much. He's such a whiner. The game of X-Wing has changed over time; he's incapable of changing with it.

I think the nationals convinced me that I just don't enjoy flying against triple jumps, and this was with me winning both of my games against triple jumps. I'm gonna take a break until jumpies in one form or another are less popular.

You know what I hate flying against? It's not triple jumps or Dengaroo. It's not palp aces. Both of those lists still play the game of X-Wing. There's still positioning, maneuvering, blocking, and more. No, what I hate is any Kanan/Biggs list. Here's an example: https://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f...amed%20Squadron Other variants use FCS instead of Accuracy Corrector and/or double recon spec instead of Jan. This list doesn't play X-Wing. It doesn't care about positioning. It doesn't care about dice, even. It just plots along slowly, eating at the health of everything in its range. You have to get through Biggs' regen, extra evade die, defensive token (an evade in my example, but is a focus in other variants), and Kanan's spend-a-focus-to-reduce-incoming-attacks ability while eating 4x TLT shots a round. There are absolutely zero choices to made in this fight. You're basically on a timer. You have to kill Biggs, and then Kanan before you get eaten alive by those TLT shots. You can try to donut-hole the ghost but if you guess wrong, you eat a 5-die primary weapon shot. Soontir does reasonably well against this, as does Inquisitor, but even with them, it's a slog. You have to save all your tokens (plus palp, if you have him) on defense, while plinking slowly through Biggs' health. Then you have to do the same against the ghost itself. It's like playing against Thug Lyfe, except there are fewer choices and they can't blank a TLT shot here and there.

Every single person I've played against with that list literally just runs away with the ghost the entire time. They don't even try to get shots with biggs; they just want him on the other side of the ghost. It's hard to force the bump.

If they haul rear end with the ghost you should be able to get him on the wrong side of the ghost because the ghost is faster than biggs- the ghost has one good turn when your gimmick is kanan protecting biggs and you can kinda play into it. It's also not that hard to clip the ghost without getting biggs in your arc if you're feeling fancy. I guess I don't see the huge problem here unless you get impatient.

And if you're obviously going for the block, they can call it and just turn the other way, putting a 4 or 5 die attack in your face. It's just not as easy as it looks. I've beat this list several times, but it's just no fun at all.

If there's one core mechanic in this game that nags at me, it's the speed of large base ships. My T65 shouldn't be puttering along in a Decimator's dust!

ConfusedUs posted:You know what I hate flying against? It's not triple jumps or Dengaroo. It's not palp aces. I just won a store event with this variation: Ezra Bridger (20) Rage (1) "Chopper" (0) Phantom (0) Kanan Jarrus (38) Advanced Sensors (3) Twin Laser Turret (6) Recon Specialist (3) Tactician (2) Tactical Jammer (1) Ghost (0) Biggs Darklighter (25) R4-D6 (1) Integrated Astromech (0) Total: 100 View in Yet Another Squad Builder TLT is not at all scary to ships with Autothrusters. PTL aces can sneak right into that donut hole at R1 as well. I got wrecked by a Soontir/Vader/Palp list the first tournament I tried it in, because the guy got right up in my grill and kept Soontir and Vader in the Range 1 out-of-arc donut hole. He also kept up the tempo of attacks, forcing me to spend the focuses on Kanan's ability. If anyone does end up in your R1 front or rear arc, 5 naked dice attacks without any focus (because you already spent both of them) or rerolls do not have the punch to consistently get through aces with tokens. Inquisitor can keep at R3 all day and evade the turret shots, because a naked TLT volley on a focus/evade/AT inquisitor is going to do zero damage 98% of the time. The Inquisitor is a Ghostbuster, and there are a lot of Inquisitors in lists these days. HLC brobots with Autothrusters can similarly manage range at R3 really well, and just pour piles of damage on the zero agility Ghost. So on two really powerful meta archetypes, skilled players have really good answers to everything that makes the list work. ConfusedUs posted:I've beat this list several times, but it's just no fun at all. I dunno, I don't think mirror matches of anything (Palp aces, jumpmasters, swarms) are very fun to watch or participate in either. Part of the fun in this game for me is list building, thinking "This list needs to do X to win" and seeing the other list and thinking "my opponent needs to do Y to win, so I must keep him from doing Y" in a dynamic way. When those lists both have the same strengths and weaknesses it doesn't really make it as interesting to me

Which list would you fly? Help me pick something for my casual night tonight. #1 quote:VT-49 Decimator: · Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46) #2 quote:VT-49 Decimator: · Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46) #3 quote:VT-49 Decimator: · Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46) #1 is probably the most competitive, token stacking on vessery to keep him alive with palp. #2 seems like fun, vessery getting all the mods and the decimator just tearing up whatever is left, but vessery is a lot more vulnerable. #3 just because Ryad is fun. Ryad cleans up. I have a hard time with Palp on a Decimator because it's too expensive to keep out of the fight, but if you bring it into the fight, it WILL die. So instead, just gear the thing up to do as much damage as possible in as small a time span as possible. You can drop Predator for VI if you want to be more arc dodgy with RAC...but you're almost guaranteed to get max damage on every roll with the decimiator I posted. Hard to pass that up.

Yeah, I like Vader deci too but you can use palp offensively too in my build. With expose and Palp you have a good chance of getting 2 hits and 2 crits on every attack. e: #2 is also good because you get to expose even if you get blocked. You can use EI off Ysanne's evade action.
