I’ve always thought a good theme for a ensemble album would be Exquisite Corpse https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exquisite_corpse

Each person gives the next person only the last two bars of their song to build the next song off of.

You're kidding, right?

John Lennon, Singer of The Beatles. He wrote the song "Imagine" and was shot and killed some time in the eighties.

Fuck has the WHOLE WORLD GONE CRAZY!

Movers have done me dirty, and I haven't had access to any of my gear going on five weeks now. I did however manage to walk into a music shop last week and buy an SP-404 mk2 off the shelf. It's my first sampler and I'm having a lot of fun with it, but learning it has been slow. The workflow is unlike anything else I've used. The live pattern recording is reminiscent of the SR-16, which I always thought was an intuitive way to lay down drum loops quickly, but everything else feels pretty foreign.

Mentioned earlier I got a Pam's. I really like it a lot. Like, one of my top 3 eurorack modules, it's so good. Or at least it really vibes with how I work.

As for which of my modules I vibe with the least? I'm going to have say the Befaco Joystick. I use it in this video, but it's not as cool as I had hoped it would be. It's not bad by any means, and maybe it's my fault - I thought I would really get a lot out of using a joystick as a controller, but it's just kind of... meh?

I first became aware of Doepfer and eurorack when a now-lovely band called Angelspit put out their Blood, Death, Ivory album back in 2008. I saw them live opening for KMFDM and I thought that poo poo was so cool. Dude was onstage jamming on a euroack and using a joystick, but I guess that's just not me. (Angelspit eventually got less interesting, toured with a pedophile band (Blood On The Dancefloor) and became a thrashy chugga-chugga guitar band. :fart:)

Keep an open mind. The IJ Planar 2 is pretty dope. I really regret selling mine. Works as a mixer and you can record the joystick movements to build an ad hoc shaping signal.

There are also lots of other cool expression modules out there.

The Doboz touch controller is pretty dope - awful menu system but great to play with once it's setup.

If you like faders, the 16n faderbank is cool and you can use it to throw midi at synths as well.

I've been watching videos on the dirtywave m8 and now I'm convinced I would very much enjoy one. Now I just need to wait until November or later to get one :negative:

I don't suppose these are showing up used anywhere for non-outrageous prices, are they?

I had an alert on reverb for one just because I was curious, they show up at like $1000 but don't pay scalper prices. Your best bet is to watch the discord and hope someone double-dipped and is willing to part with theirs for ~MSRP

Mine gets here Friday :blastu:. Your best bet to find a used one at non scalper prices is to probably sit in the official discord. I've seen a few pop up, it's rare though. You could also buy a teensy and try headless out in the meantime.

I've thought about running it headless but a whole lot of the appeal is the size and portability honestly. I'll probably just wait and not waste the money on the Teensy.

It's $30 and will instantly give you an idea if the workflow is for you, I highly recommend it as it may be a while before you can get a real one.

Or for ~$150 and some clever application of tape you can get a portable version that also emulates classic games!

Picked up a cheap(ish) Akai Tom Cat from reverb, mostly as these came out around the time I first got into drum machines/synths and I regret not buying on when they dropped in price. Reverb seller had it listed as very good/recently serviced but dispatched it in a brown envelope and when it arrived was missing several screws from the face plate and the rubber feet from the bottom.

I assume this is not normal behaviour but has anyone ever encountered this? When it's powered up the step lights will light from 1-16 then back from 16-1. Pads are lit but LCD display is not. Pressing play will show a cryptic 107 on the LCD. When the step lights return to 1 an audible click can be heard from both outputs which is unaffected by any of the volume knobs. This process repeats, sometimes stopping after 6-30 occurrences, sometimes never. I appreciate that these need to warm up before sounding their best but no starting seems something totally different.

Probably going to return it but would consider keeping it if potentially fixable. Can solder and perform basic electronic troubleshooting but other than some modding pages, can't find much info on repairing broken tom cats.

Hi friends it's me Agreed, you might recognize me from such posts as this exact same track in the Post Pictures Of Your New Stuff thread. Well, that out of the way, for anyone not checking that one out I made a thing with the Kaossilator Pro+ and the Korg OpSix (and my guitar as well):

https://soundcloud.com/user-612970086/tide-glider

I'm still just dipping my toes in I reckon, I intend to do some really fun stuff with this thing. Love its workflow. I don't find the built in sounds to be as limiting as I worried I would, especially after working to integrate the loops into my DAW I am pretty sure I'll be able to get good use out of it looping along with a more complicated, composed percussion track in the DAW and adding other elements. The OpSix is doing the bass synth in this track.

I'm loving the mutable instruments blades in my system, but i find myself also wanting a steeper, more acid-y and characterful filter as well (I can kinda patch one up using both channels of blades but that's all the filtering in my case).

I was considering either the doepfer 102 or 103 but realised they won't fit in my case. Currently I'm looking at the stg sea devils or the viol ruina by noise engineering. Any other skiff friendly 18/24db filter suggestions?

E: I thought I read the stg was 4cm deep but it's 4 inches or something so scratch that

Listen, I've been around a bit, you know, and I thought I'd seen some creepy things go on in the movie business, but I really have to say this is the most disgusting thing that's ever happened to me.
it's in the gear thread but I have a Xone 4d which is a rare and kinda dumbly expensive thing but because of the circumstances under which I got it I don't want to resell, and would trade for "synthesizer stuff": modular pieces, semi modular, a controller, some old rack(s) you have, etc. I am happy to give someone a good deal on this if it's useful to them and gets me something cool I wouldn't have otherwise!!
