I dunno, Daleks are kinda tubby and awful. Maybe it's just because I've played a lot of Lego Dimensions but I like the Dimensions design well enough.

Has there been a minifigure-scale Dalek that actually looks good anywhere?

I agree, the birds and wall-e look fantastic but there's not much to do with them.

I made this a long time ago (based of a design someone else made on these forums) It's very fragile though, not really fit for a play set. But for display it looks a lot better then both the funset and that ideas set I think.

I finally finished my copy of that Flickr Millennium Falcon from several pages back. It's not identical, I changed a few things (eg the placement of the 6 circles on the back) and I couldn't decipher his exact build even if I wanted to.

That builder had his flying on a stand, I've given mine landing gear

I did manage to get the stud inversion sorted out around the 'wheel'.

The biggest difference is, I've given mine an entrance ramp. It's not placed perfectly centre but it's close enough for me.

Those look fine but it's basically a tiny figurine. Not exactly the Lego aesthetic. Sorta like how a lot of megablocks parts are literally a molded chunk of whatever you're building instead of made of bricks

I know it's because of the minifigs but I think the worst thing about the Dr Who Ideas set is the price. €55 seems crazy high. I hate to imagine how much it'll cost in Australia (although all the Ideas sets are stupidly expensive over here).

e - The Big Bang Theory set is AUD90 and Wall-E is AUD70 so I'm guessing Dr Who will be around AUD90 as well.

I don't know about non-US currencies, but $60 for 623 parts is damned reasonable for something with a license.

Is there a good resource for finding parts to make minifigs of people or family members? A long, long time ago I made (what I hesitate to call) a vignette for my dad for father's day. It's atrocious and none of the brick colors match and it is very obvious that it was made by a kid who was in elementary school and had access to a tub of LEGO. Earlier last year I discovered that ever since I made it he has kept it on his desk at work.

Since I'm a busy guy now and this would certainly require some planning in LDD, I want to make an updated vignette for him and maybe my brother and mother as well for Christmas. The contents of the vignette would be easy minus the minifigs, since I want them to be kind of accurate.

If there is a Lego store near you try it there. Lego Stores have a build a figurine system: you pay (I think 2,99€ here) and pick legs, torso, head, hair/hat, 1 or 2 accessories. They have a huge selection of torsos.

The biggest pick a minfig selection I have seen was at German Legoland when I went there (in the demo factory). I doubt that's an option for you.

Or do you mean a list of parts available?

There is a shitload of figurines here (german only it seems): http://www.toypro.com/de/m/figuren?list=big&fcat=&fscat=&fmcat=&show_sub_cats=true&fcolor=&search=&fitems=100&page=1
you can brose them, click on the name if you like one. Then it will say the set number. Copy and paste this number in the Lego Shop replacement parts order section. If you are lucky the minifig part can be ordered separately if not, you will at least know the design number.

I live in Atlanta, so there is bound to be something nearby.

I suppose what I meant was an accessible selection of parts that I could use to, say, decide on a minifig design and then order from Bricklink. But if there is a good selection at LEGO stores that would probably work fine as well.

Brickset has a good list of minifigs but it is hard to determine what line of LEGO figs would have the best "casual wear" torsos for minifig design. Maybe the city figs?

Depending on how in-depth you want to get with it, I'd try the minifig parts on Bricklink:http://www.bricklink.com/browseTree.asp?itemType=P It's broken down by part rather than full minifigure so it'll be easier to mix and match and you can see who's selling them and for how much right there, but be warned that's every part ever made so some of them might be not available or stupid expensive.

The Build-a-Model Panda figure at Lego Stores now has some useful/uncommon-for-PAB parts:
2x2 white turntable base with 2x2 gray turntable
1x2x1 1/3 black curve brick
1x2 tan brick with 2 studs on the side
Black cheese slope
1x2 white cheese slope
1x1 black round plate
1x1 white round tile with eye
1x2 white plate with 2/3 slope
1x2 white jumper plate

It's been over a week since release, and I still see shelves full of Dimensions stuff. It sure isn't flying off the shelves like Amiibo tends to, but it doesn't seem to be selling all that much at all. I wonder if I'm right and they hosed up their pricing so badly people are passing on it.

I preordered the base game, a couple fun packs, and the Lego Level pack from Amazon and I'm having some pretty strong buyer's remorse. The game is fun, but it's not $99 worth of fun. The minifigures are cool, and the small builds they come with are kind of neat, but yeah. For what you're actually getting, they are way, way, way too expensive. The thing it's been most successful at is making me really want Portal 3.

I think they hosed up by making a game that is mostly going to appeal to kids and pairing it with licenses that are mostly going to appeal to adults and then charging so much you can't justify just buying a set for the Legos.
