So, am I the only one that didn't think The Human Centipede was all that shocking? I'm not a big fan (or really a fan, at all) of torture porn horror movies, but I was completely letdown by THC. There was so much hype about it, so when I actually watched it, I just felt pretty "meh" about it all. Hopefully, THC2 will make up for it.

Monsters? They look like monsters to you?
^ I was cackling pretty hard when he sat in the car sobbing over the picture of his failed rottweiler centipede.

Well, there's really only so much an actor can do when their face is taped to anothers butt. Other than sob and wonder if they're being paid enough to star in A2M: The Movie.

The reveal of "oh hey, a human centipede!" is pretty shocking, but then it's just kind of like watching a really boring and whiny mutant shuffle around for another hour while an insane German man yells at them.

This would be kinda interesting though.

Anyone know anything about Insidious/The Further? I like Patrick Wilson/Rose Byrne and weird creepy looking ghosty movies, so this looks like it could be interesting.

Well, it is torture porn. So I guess if you're desensitized to that you're not going to get much out of it. I really only liked some of the dark humor dialogue. It's a deeply cynical movie, and I'm a deeply cynical person.

I enjoyed finding out that he was Mantrid and going "HOLY poo poo!" for thirty seconds more than I enjoyed any particular part of the movie. It was fine, but it was a lot more of a comedy than I was hoping for.

I'd watch a prequel about those two cops, though.

I'd also kill for a Cronenberg remake of the film.

I thought House of the Devil was great. Totally felt like it could've come right out of the 80s. Pretty atmospheric, too.

I really, really liked The Human Centipede. I think the people who claim it's shocking or disturbing can't laugh at how ridiculous the whole thing is. The doctor is utterly hilarious. Sure, the concept is disturbing and the people playing the centipede do a good job of acting utterly horrified at their situation, but overall, the movie's more of a dark comedy than straight horror.

I had no intention of watching Human Centipede, it's just not my thing, but with the publicity I decided to go ahead. Well, it's not a gross out film. I didn't find it particularly all that disturbing really. Maybe had I seen it when the idea was still fresh in my brain or maybe if I could have sympathized with the victims (they were really unlikable)... who knows. One thing I liked was the casting. Dieter Laser, what a name, was believable as a creepy mad doctor type. The cops looked like cops, the girls looked like ditsy American tourists, so they were good choices. Everything else about it was mediocre to poor. I didn't hate it but it was a novelty and I can say I saw it.

I don't buy it as a dark comedy at all otherwise there would have been more gross out moments but even the mouth making GBS threads scene was underplayed.

(and can't post for 3 years!)

The thing with The Human Centipede is it's kind of a one-shot horror situation. It's like if they tried to stretch one of the Saw traps into a whole movie, the concept just didn't stay shocking or interesting.

What's going on is a sequel that shouldn't have ever been made. Scream 2 and 3 were pretty drat bad. I'm pretty sure Craven's just doing 4 because he knows it'll make good money, which he needs to do since that other movie he did was a loving turdbomb. Come to think of it, most of Craven's movies are turdbombs. He seems like a guy who's really bad at writing movies and used up all of his good ideas with the original ANOES.

People Under the Stairs

God that's such a bizarre movie. About the time that Daddy is running through the house in a gimp suit with a huge shotgun, blowing holes in the walls, you stop caring and just enjoy it.

Also the first Scream was pretty cool for its time, and still is.

Wes Craven has one of the spottiest filmographies, he tends to have one good movie sprinkled in a pile of poo poo. He'll make things like Vampire in Brooklyn, the Scream sequels, My Soul To Take but at the same time he'll release stuff like The People Under The Stairs, Music of the Heart, Scream, New Nightmare, Red Eye, etc.

I tend to hold off judgment on his movies until they come out and see what the consensus is (that is if I don't see it myself first). It could be possible that Scream 4 will be good fun but honestly it'll probably be a piece of poo poo.

The first half of Scream 2 was awesome, it turned into a generic slasher right after Randy died (it's like with the referential character dying, the series forgot to be self referential) and never really recovered after.

It's both thrilling and terrifying.
I thought I was over the Scream series years ago, but watching the trailer for the new one got me totally excited for it again. I remember going to see the first one randomly when I was 11-12 years old and absolutely loving it and being obsessed with it. This new one seems to have a lot of the feel of the first one, and the nostalgia factor is really working for me.

The only way that would be worth seeing is if they replaced Pinhead with the Satan version of Ned Flanders. Otherwise it's poo poo.

No, apparently he doesn't have control of the property. (Which is weird since though you usually do surrender copyright of screenplays to the studio/production company, I'd expect him to still own "Hellbound Heart".)

Well... the linked article uses a Bloody Disgusting article as its source and the BD article does not mention a PG13 being sought; although it says the Weinsteins are trying to market it to "teens"... which can still happen with an R rated movie. I mean do they seriously card at theaters now?

That said, the original and the immediate sequel are two of my all-time favorite movies. I was 11 and 13 when they came out, and that is just the prime age for being ingrained with a love for horror movies. All the sleaze and gore and sex... please don't do it Weinsteins!

I think Splinter was being billed as a SyFy original, but it had a limited release in some places. That said, it was pretty impressive for the limited budget it had. I think what really sold me was the acting, however. The fact that the cast was kept down to 4 characters kept things from getting too ridiculous. The film was more about survival, not getting killed one after another like far too many horror films are.

Splinter wasn't a Syfy movie and had nothing to do with that channel. It was distributed by Magnolia who also put out 'The Signal'. I think Splinter is the only DVD I've ever watched where I ended up watching every movie that the DVD showed previews for, such as Eden Log, Mutant Chronicles and Timecrimes and thought those movies were excellent in their own right as well.

Hmm I'll have to check those out since The Signal is one of the best horror movies of recent years, and Splinter and Timecrimes were both surprisingly awesome for what they were. Hellraiser creeped the hell out of me as a kid, so much so that I didn't watch it again until I was like 27 or something. I watched the sequels between that period, though, and they were so stupid, it kind of made me think I had rose colored glasses on when considering them. But when I watched 1 (and 2) again, they held up really well. Now I watch a little of either whenever I see them on TV.

People should probably be counting their blessings that they're getting Scream 4 and not a Scream remake.

You can't blame Hollywood for targeting the teen market for movies -- they'll spend top dollar to watch the lowest common denominator crap. What demographic do you think made that Jackass movie #1? Maybe Pinhead will do away with the chains and just kick people in the nuts in the remake.
