The lag from HDTV's can make lightning dodging a huge pain without the crater. If your HDTV has a game mode and you don't have it enabled try that...it helped me a LOT.

Also, as I learned just a moment ago after 114 or so dodges, if you so much as press X twice at a flash instead of just once, you'll get hit.

I'm happy to confirm that if you dodge, say, 203 bolts without being hit, start running back to the Agency for your reward and immediately get hit by a lightning bolt, you still get the sigil.

Kaines outfit is loving ludicrous and a major turnoff (and rightly so) for people who are interested in playing the game but she is one of if not the best written female characters I've ever seen in a video game I've ever seen and the story bends over backwards to explain why she wears what she does, up to and including revealing her self-loathing memories of her childhood and how her outfit allowed her to take ownership of her femininity in a way that made her not be the suicidal mess she used to be If there's one thing that Kaine is, and it's why she's such a well written and surprisingly feminist character, is that she is completely self actualized The story goes out of its way to explain how that outfit played a central symbolic role in having her progress to that point

I never finished the last FJF, I think I still have my save file on the iOS version. It was like, Thief (REALLY annoying start), Summoner, Geomancer, Samurai. The issue is that subbing Summon 5 to anyone makes them as strong as a dedicated summoner. Gaia and Summon were also really good to play off one another. Basically my party turned into: Samurai Fast Summoner Summoner with Gaia Summoner with Gaia 3 Summoners actually trivializes a whole lot of the game who knew! This is without even getting Samurai's coin toss involved. Basically I more or less thought "Ok I win" and never advanced further. I'll sign up for this one but I dunno if I'll actually finish it. It does usually fall within a really slow period at work...

I didnt finish it last year because I ended up rolling the same exact team I got the first year and I lost interest. Thief, Monk, Beastmaster and Berserker. Miserable. Hopefully this year will go better.

Hopefully this year will go better. I use those rolls as an opportunity to throw a few bucks to charity through the Job Fair to get different jobs. It's often only a buck or two for a more interesting job.

My biggest problem is honestly that I did a lot of runs last year and it's hard to get excited for it again this year unless they have some sort of new interesting gimmick run. Maybe I'll try to do a Bravely Default FJF or something.

This year, this year is the year I finally complete a fiesta. First time around I lost interest like a noob. Second time around, I had a pure physical team (which I nicknamed team auto-fight) until I reached the final dungeon and hit a brick wall of must grind a ton to progress. But this time, THIS YEAR, I WILL DO THIS!

Plenty of new players have beat the FJF before, so you should be fine. Plus playing with only four of the possible twenty jobs (not to mention Freelancer/Mimic) should encourage replay value. I think the only big problems would be not having a method of using Fire on Byblos or not having magic to get past Fork Tower with if you wanted that stuff. The beauty of FF5 is that pretty much every job excels at something, so no job is really useless (besides Berserker). Last year I got to the last boss with my party (think it was Monk, Berserker, Ninja, Dragoon, but I don't really remember) but never really bothered finishing the game. Maybe I'll finish it this year if I can spend enough time not playing FF14.

Berserker is a liability in certain fights and sucks by the end of the game but they are AWESOME early on. A Berserker with Two Handed is more damage than anyone else can do for a pretty long time, and by the time Death Scythes don't do enough damage you'll still occasionally need them for the instant death effect. Also I think the iOS version had a "glitch" (fixed mechanic) that made them act at normal speed which is why I didn't think they were trash on my iOS playthrough. Also the touch interface is a bit wonky so it helps to have one less character to worry about
