that makes me think of the fact that Mad Magazine was once a subversive counterculture force, long before I was old enough to grasp that- like I remember buying every issue of Mad in the early 90s, and each one being solidly funny, and also getting 60s/70s paperbacks at garage sales but not recognizing as a kid how much they went against the grain-

When Puck folded, did it just go under one day, or was it after a couple decades of tepid, safe material after what was once politically radical became mainstream liberalism?

There's actually a recent Communist version of Monopoly and weirdly enough it sounds like it's easier to win than the original Capitalist version.

the original monopoly or The Landlords Game was socialist ya goof, with the whole point being that it's poo poo to win and you only do so by random chance and loving over others, same as with capitalism

Then it's appropriate that the communist version of monopoly is "designed to teach young generations about the hardships under communism (1945–1989), particularly the difficulty of acquiring consumer goods in the shortage economy."

The USSR didn't begin in 1945, either. It's a Polish game, about the period of communist rule in Poland, and the hardships people faced under it.

For a game made by Poles in Poland published by the Institute of National Remembrance, yes, the negative impact of communism and the USSR are the same.

Look, let's recap the steps here.

1. Snowglobe of Doom posts about a "communist version" of the capitalist game monopoly.
2. You, interpreting this to mean that he considers Monopoly to be pro-capitalist, point out the interesting factoid that it was actually designed as an indictment of capitalism.
3. I look at the wikipedia page for the game, notice that in fact Kolejka was likewise designed as an indictment of communism, and post about it, to show that the situation is neatly mirrored. Monopoly is the "capitalist game" meant to argue against capitalism, and Kolejka is the "communist game" meant to argue against communism.

I don't know how this has led us to step 4, "people start vigorously asserting that communism is actually much better than capitalism." I don't personally think it is, but it really doesn't matter whether it is or not for the information in (3) to be a nice little piece of trivia.
