After a whole goddamn year, corporate finally got someone in to fix/replace (?) our AC units.

The petty dramas; the entitlement (I don’t do task x; I only do task Y; I take an extra 10 minutes on my break or leave 10 mins early when I feel like it). The incessant whining. Until another department stole him off me because he was such a great worker. "Don't worry though you're getting heaps of extra staff starting soon. They're all unpaid interns from this company so they can do heaps of hours" Work just depressed me after that. Was some program from disadvantaged families or something and they brought these kids in to take the paper out of the end of shoes, and cut up cardboard boxes and poo poo. About 20 of them all up and only about 2 of them ended up getting a job at the end of it. Internship for the lowest jobs in retail just insulted me, and that the cut my team extra to accommodate this was infuriating.

Right before I got laid off due to covid poo poo, I put some Xs on the floor in bright green masking tape to mark out 6ft spaces for customers to stand on for social distancing like I had seen in other stores. This was on a Saturday. Monday my SM came in, saw it, called corporate to ask if we could keep it. They said no, it had to all be pulled up and I needed to be written up for providing poor customer service. He flat out refused to write me up. When I came back in on Wednesday I found this all out. I also found out that on that Tuesday, corporate had sent out an email instructing us to put out Xs with green masking tape at 6ft intervals to assist with social distancing. About 3-4 weeks later I got laid off and I've been making double my hourly rate since being on unemployment. I think I got the better end of this deal.

Got my testing done today, it'll be like another week before I hear back. Something that has dawned on me though is that I need to get groceries. But I can't. CAUSE I WORK AT THE GROCERY STORE

In my limited experience, the olds are the ones who will throw the biggest fit about company minimum wages going up. See: Target doing $15/hr now. A bunch of the 40+ crowd that has been at my store since it opened in 2003 are still throwing a fit and not working like they used to since "We've been here for 15 years and now Day 1 people make what we make, this is bullshit."

It's crab bucket mentality. They should be pissed that they aren't making the same differential to whatever mon wage was when they started, but instead they are too upset by seeing someone else get paid.

It’s loving dumb to have individualised raises in hourly jobs. In Australia there’s an independent body that decides what workers in any given industry get paid; and everyone industry wide gets the same pay raise every year.

Had a coworker come back positive last night so they opened the store 2 hours later than normal doing a "deep clean". I only do this job for a little extra pocket money now and I'm less enthusiastic about coming in even though they've guaranteed it was just an isolated event and somehow the team member didn't work with anyone else.

I used to get mad about money but I ultimately realized that any time I get mad at a co-worker for 'making too much', I should be mad at the company for paying too little. Since I posted a cat update elsewhere, I'll also put one here because work sucks and cats good Pardon my bolt cutters. "Kiskiskis" Uh-oh. This is how Gods fight Snack time.

Well, it happened. I'm on a conference call right now with my interim SM and our DM because someone is showing symptoms and I'm going to be locked down for 14 days. I knew the scheduling was going to gently caress us over. Pretty much our entire morning crew is in isolation for the next two weeks. loving stupid rear end in a top hat SM ignoring block scheduling and exposing us.

Duckman2008 posted:Ugh that sucks. Are they paying you the whole time ? Are you getting tested ? Shockingly, yes, although I was also offered the option of unpaid time off (wtf DM). I'm not getting tested until I hear for sure if she's positive, but I know I was in very close contact with this person within the last 24 hours. I'm more scared for her because her husband is severely immunocompromised right now. They're altering store hours because they have only the night crew working for the next two weeks, and if the person in question tests positive, they're going to shut down for deep cleaning. Not until then though. Eric the Mauve posted:lol I still owe you an email but thank you for the good wishes. I'll update with what I find out either way.

We have way too much toilet paper and not enough paper towels. After today’s load, I have three full pallets of toilet paper. Sure would be nice if the prices would go down a bit so people would actually buy it. Bamboo toilet paper is actually really good. I’m surprised by how soft and tough it is.

I keep hearing conservative talk show hosts complaining that people on unemployment are making more than they would working minimum-wage. Discussion of course is to cut unemployment for anyone who's currently furloughed if they have a chance to go back to working for minimum wage, and refused, instead taking more money to stay at home. Instead of the lesson being that minimum wage is bullshit.

Duckman2008 posted:Ugh that sucks. Are they paying you the whole time ? Are you getting tested ? They pay you ONCE. So if you do end up getting COVID like a month from now and have to self isolate you have to use vacation and sick time. My dog got a bad haircut. Its not a BAD haircut as far as grooming goes because he had some mats on his bottom and armpits and I think that’s why she shaved him down, but she didn’t have to make him nekkid like that. He didn’t prance out of the salon this time. Tell him he’s pretty.

An unnamed coworker of mine tested positive yesterday as well but according to the email they didn't work with anyone so we're all good to keep going. I actually like my current SM but I'm not hugely confident this person has somehow not come into contact with anyone else while working.

Every time people talk about cutting benefits I think of the 'stop stop he's already dead' Simpsons meme. The benefits suck. Cutting them now would be an amazingly bad idea, not just for humanitarian reasons, but because when this many people are off work, pissed, bored, and out in the streets, the *last* thing you want to do is piss gasoline into a grease fire.

Pretty much. When so much of the population is already stressed, many people are facing eviction, but I won't someone think of the poor landlords, the very last thing you want to do is remove the one comfort people have in the form of an unemployment check that probably isn't covering everything they need to cover anyways. anyone else remember months ago, back in March, when so many people were sure this would blow over or just be like a flu season, and covid could not withstand the summer temperatures?

Mandatory mask order with $200 fines now here in Melbourne with our 2nd wave getting out of control. We've been wearing masks for the last week already, now I get to argue with morons now about mask wearing. And with 2nd wave virus comes 2nd wave record sales, I just dont get it. Back in March we had the highest sales in the companies history and now it's on the rise again with 100% increase of online orders and massive sales in store again even though the supply chain hasn't recovered from the first lot, I have no idea what we're selling to have these huge days when we have no printers, ink, ipads, furniture etc. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the office position I interviewed for last week pans out

I want to swing at everyone who can't wear a mask properly. Like I've started heckling people about it because I'm that annoyed by it.

Just organise with the local police to have someone stationed near the store fining everyone who comes through without a mask. At $200 a pop it would pay for itself and provide you with free entertainment.

I wouldn't put it past the cops to do that anyway, the centre that we're a part of is giant and super busy. We're detached from the main indoor shopping area but it's still a "destination" shopping area that people flock to. The only time I got stopped by the cops during the first lockdown was them watching me and my staff lock up for the night and they wanted to know why I was out of the house, while standing in front of the store in my uniform that they just watched me leave.
