Also unsure if my partner has to do anything - she's Irish so that would remove the need for her to register, but I'm here on her EU status and blaaaaah this is complicated. For info, she's Irish and I'm a kiwi.

I guess the answer is no one here knows cos not even the government knows.

Depending on the exact details you should be fine until 2022 as Irish is not treated the same as other EU Nationalities thanks to the Common travel area. If you are on the 5 year visa expiring in 2022 you should be able to apply for ILR at the end of it.

However nobody really loving knows because this whole thing is a poorly managed shitshow.

He talks about how the intellectual hollowing of the Tories progressed from 1986, and rightly calls out the media's wagon-circling around Johnson.

this is a good article, yeah. I really hope that this argument:

quote:

No explanation of Brexit – and hence of the worst political crisis in living memory – can escape the truth that it was born, nurtured and released into society from the Conservative backbenches.

enters the discourse once the impending election comes around. People loving hate Brexit, and it's 100% the fault of the Tories - they started it, they were presiding over its deal negotiations, and they were the ones who completely poo poo the bed in sorting it out.

I'm right remembering that Ken Clarke literally said if he was a caretaker PM he would actively seek to negotiate and then push through a brexit deal. I'm not having false memories here am I?

Why is she maintaining that fantasy? (It's because the dream of the sensible non-ideological adults turning up and fixing everything, sensibly, is the eternal paternal liberal dream)

I imagine they have fire extinguishers close at hand inside all parts of the Palace of Westminster in case it burns down because all of the wiring is from the 30s and there's red hot steam pipes and sawdust and detritus everywhere and the one thing that MPs will fund is sticking plaster solutions for MPs not burning to death.

key difference is that the idf while not what it was is still fairly effective, while the saudi army is an utter embarrassment.

I would debate how fantastic it is when it doesn't say that the ideological and intellectual hollowing out began with Thatcher, not in 1986. Tories used to at least do something for their money sometimes, but the new crowd are nouveau riches for whom the money and privilege has always been there and as a result they don't understand where it came from. They don't understand that before gathering as much as you can you have an obligation to ensure that everyone has enough. And that all comes from Thatcher.

The Labour rulebook requires the leader of the party to be their PM candidate, and Corbyn is the elected Leader of the Opposition with first dibs on forming a government under FTPA. This is a ridiculous fantasy - if Corbyn wants Rayner to replace him, he's going to have to step down and hold a months-long leadership election, which is an insane thing to do in the current climate.

Stuff like this makes me really mad and confused about the Tories remaining a force in this country. Nobody's excited for their ideas (if they have any at all) and not a single person I've talked to seems to like any of the public facing figures or the things they've said. The institutional power this subset of guffawing private school wankers is crazy.

But also, lol @ the Tories
