The NES and SNES classics have sold pretty well though, to the point where they've put out second production runs. That said, they still do have a very limited selection of games and there's a ton of releases that you just can't get anywhere (especially since the Virtual Console died with the Wii U and there's so far no official replacement for most of it) for licensing reasons or lack of interest.

I have an idea, since they are going to steal the movie anyway, let's just make the entire thing ads! They'll pay for the whole thing too!

I'd say you should patent that idea, but there's no way the studios aren't already working on that

The Emoji movie is chock full of ads, wreck it ralph is basically one big ad, and the lego movies are literally feature length ads. Aside from the emoji movie they're pretty entertaining ads, especially the first lego movie, but that doesn't mean they're not ads.

I no longer pirate music because I don't mind paying $10 a month to Google (I don't like Spotify) so that I can hear my music plus hear new stuff. Back in the day I would just grab a day's worth of headers from Usenet, download them all and then if something new looked interesting I'd give it a try. If it was a new band I'd buy a CD or go see them live. If you want to know why concert tickets are over $100, just ask any streaming service why they give musicians fractions of a cent for every playback. Living in Canada, you are a bit limited with options. Cable TV is going to cost you over $100 and most streaming sites are geolocked when it comes to content A few years ago you could use a VPN Service to make it seem like you were in the US and get lots of Netflix stuff and that actually (I think) helped make NetFlix popular up here. People also used this to access Hulu. Then Content Creators made Netflix block all VPNs and Hulu won't accept any money unless you have a US credit card. It cost me about $250 for a 8TB USB drive which I bought the other day which is now my 2nd. I get poo poo from Usenet, which is a millions times easier now with Sonarr, and other private trackers. Both sources do show that people are really doing their part to archive obscure or hard to find stuff. What I'm saying is that I'll always pirate because it's just easier than dealing with "will it or won't it work " when I try to stream.

I have netflix and prime video and spotify. If whatever I want isn't on there I'll pirate it and then if it's good I'll buy the bluray or record. Also I'll try to read up on the bluray in advance and if it's full of bullshit unskippable ads then it will remain pirated because gently caress you I'm not giving you money for an objectively worse experience. Like the In Bruges blu ray I have actually downloads trailers before you're allowed to watch the film. I have to disconnect my PS4 from the internet if I want to watch a film without being forced to download and watch some poo poo. You should be allowed to charge the distributor money because they are stealing your bandwidth.

I bought the Sopranos on bluray because it's one of my favorite shows and I wanted a high quality company that wasn't going to be a 850GB torrent that I'd have to seed for a year. But when I go to watch them, I have to sit though a 3 or 5 minute "ALSO ON HBO!" preview of shows that were canceled 10 years ago. Can't fast forward or skip it all.

My cousin has owned and operated a video store in my small hometown for many years now. It somehow still survives to this day. During peak DVD in the early 2000's, I would sit in the back of the store for hours and do nothing but rip DVDs. I had an old laptop setup specifically for it and a couple external drives. I'd take the rips home and burn them to DVD+Rs. I still bought DVDs too during this time... In fact I have 2 large boxes with nearly 600 bought DVDs taking up room in my closet now that I don't know what to do with. I mean who the hell watches DVDs anymore?! I would normally only grab the main movie title.. But for some DVDs I wanted the entire thing, menus, extra features and all. I would use a program called PGCEdit to edit the DVD structure and remove the prohibited operations flag, and/or make it jump straight to the menu instead before burning it. For a long time my cousin's store would get new releases often 2-3 weeks before street date. After piracy started to increase worldwide, that window kept getting shorter. Now he doesn't get new release copies until only 4 days before street date, sometimes its only the day before!

No no, I mean the entire movie would be ads. The content itself would be ads full of product placement, a movie could take place in a hotel and the hotel would pay for it because the whole thing is just an advertisement that people pay to see!
