I remember people (myself included) said Paradox Engine and Paradoxical Outcome were both powerful but probably too expensive when they were spoiled, and they both ended up being quite good in some formats. Powerful and unique effects without clear analogues are really hard to analyze without testing I think.

So........like lore wise..........is Innistrad just a flat world/discworld planet? If the sun isn't rising on one half of it, the other half has to be straight up burning to a crisp no?

That's what the giant artifact clock thing from the last set was about. It was loving with the day night cycle via ancient magic so that night lasted way longer than it normally would on the plane. This isn't even the weirdest day night magic cycle we know of, Lorwyn Shadowmoor is one too and they have 300 year days followed by 300 year nights.

Useless fun fact of the day: you can Needle Blood tokens

So I know I kicked off a whole thing when I posted about modern merfolk, and while I’m still working on that I’m actually almost finished with a modern boros burn deck to bring to my LGS next week. I’m a little nervous about playing constructed but since I’ve had good experiences playing draft there I think it’ll be fun. Any advice? It seems like a pretty straightforward deck but modern is a new format to me.

You can technically needle any valid card name.

Whether or not that actually does anything, though...

Be very clear about timing windows, and wait for a spell to resolve before casting the next one unless you have to do it right then and there.
Good luck! (bring a book, your matches will be quick)

Right but they're saying here you can name Blood the card and it will needle Blood the token which is cool!

yes the joke is that naming the Blood half of that card needles the Blood token as well, you can't needle tokens otherwise

Thanks! Arena has made me very aware of the timing of triggers and spell resolution and whatnot.

It doesn't have haste, so if your opponent has any removal you've given them a free blood vial. I don't think that makes it unplayable though, it's cheap enough to put in a control deck and play with counterspell protection as a finisher.

It's a 4 mana creature with negative value? It might see some play, if it's got both a good home and lines up well against G and/or R decks in the format, but it looks maybe playable not insane to me.
