Magmarashi posted:I see a build that doesn't use some of the heavier armor, just as he said, and also gives up on a ring slot, just as he said. This build reinforces his point by illustrating it rather nicely. I'm not sure you understand what a counterpoint is. He said you had to sacrifice armor and ring slots and neither of those is true. For PVP, Rofap is not sacrificing anything since it's really loving good. You're also not sacrificing armor because you've hit the 31 poise breakpoint, and poise is all armor is useful for in Dks.

Couldn't you have too much poise in DkS1? Like if your armor was too good you'd stand up to attacks you'd rather have knock you down for the invincibility. I guess it's not the same in PvP.

Or you can just use the red arena instead. You need to have a token of spite in your inventory, but it isn't consumed when you join a match.

I'm struggling to think how anybody could find the final boss harder than those two assholes you fight immediately beforehand. Also I was expecting some The Ring style bust-in-out-of-nowhere from Nashandra, not a fadeout and a cutscene between fights. They wasted a really good opportunity for a scare there. Throne Watcher and Throne Defender each stunlock and hit like a train, they hop around and don't ever give you any signal that it's safe to chug, they power up pretty hard below half health, and worst of all you have to kill them within 20 seconds of each other. Nashandra bombards you with Curse nonstop, yeah, so your max HP very slowly drops but it doesn't actually do that much direct damage. Keep your distance and the only real threatening attack is her ~*darkness laser*~, except she just fires it into the ground in front of you half the time. eh. That fight seems like it could get quite sticky if you were pure melee though, since anything in close proximity to her just rots away on its feet.

Nashandra is the easiest boss in the game if you have anything ranged because she moves slowly and intentionally stays more than arm's length away once she casts her curse orbs. If you are playing a melee only character the fight WOULD be hard if you didn't have +10-ish estus by this point because if you get cursed, it doesn't matter because curse doesn't kill you anymore, so all it does is drain your health while you waddle around Nashandra's slow and plodding scythe swings. She is a disappointing boss on all fronts and the Throne Watcher/Defender actually are a BETTER final boss, or at least they would be if they both had the ability to be aggressive at the same time.

In both cases they're just super-sized humanoids in a big flat arena. Sort of disappointing how many of the bosses fit that description.

There really should be an alteration to the cutscene if you beat the Throne Watcher/Defender when you get the ring and then come back later to finish the game. Like, Nashandra comes in and sees that you already killed the Throne Watcher/Defender earlier and she just flees in terror and then the game is over. Though come to think of it that's kinda what happens anyway.

It would be great if they worked together in any way other than the revive gimmick. They just kind of move around and try to hit you at random times. Lazy.

I do like that the Throne Watcher/Defender as well as Velstadt have (excuse the pun) dark souls, like Manus in DS1. His soul item was purple and made of abyss goo and poo poo, and since presumably that's how they've stayed alive and human-looking for so long (thanks to Nashandra), they do too. It's a nice little touch.

I hope in the DLC proper there are more weapons with unique traits like blue flame and mace of the insolent. Like, say, an axe that replaces R2 moveset with pyromancies. Or, a whip that replaces R2s with binoculars. Possibly a spear that replaces R2s with a unique wood carving. "Get Good!" "Get Good!" "Get Good!"

The wikidot one is generally better but in the case of not being able to find info on there, it'll usually be found on the other. edit: Although I guess then it delves into how much you trust the fextralife wiki to be correct which is an at-your-own-discretion kind of thing.

Uuuuugh. I never had to touch fextralife for the last game when I was backtracking over stuff I missed. Which was great because that place loads like garbage. If garbage was a brick down the sink garbage disposal. Unfortunately, I've been needing to turn to Fextralife instead of wikidot for my backtracking for stuff I missed the first time through an area for this game. Because a lot of the wikidot area articles are glorified list of names, often not even listing everything (Hi, Earthen Peak. So many omitted items. Though gently caress trying to get that Poison Broadsword). Then a link to a youtube videos for Items and walkthroughs at the bottom if you want any actual detail. The location of that mimic you killed? But we put mimic on the enemy name list! What more do you want from us in an area article? So yeah, Fextralife feels like it is held together with rubber bands and But it's not like Wikidot or Wikia are filling in the blanks without dropping everything to hunt through a half hour video as the player asks the viewer "I was wondering what you were doing this coming weekend".

You know, at least Dark Souls II didn't literally go "The cake is a lie". Because Castlevania Lords of Shadow did just that. That whole Solaire and Praise the Sun thing wouldn't be so bad in Dark Souls II if the item descriptions didn't constantly quote Solaire for no reason. Everything else from the first game that's referenced is talked about as being a thing barely anyone remembers after all.

How is that any worse than the Curved Dragon Greatsword having part of the opening monologue from Dark Souls 1 as its description or Garl Vinland having not one but two references (Vengarl and Velstadt) in the game?
