Sekenr posted:X52 users - you might want to switch to logitech drivers which are significantly less crap compared to "smart technology" lol. In my case they stopped eating 50 % of processor power when you unplug the stick. You can also use the generic windows joystick drivers which work flawlessly to the point where I assume someone at Microsoft coded specific X52 drivers better than Saitek out of spite.

I havent been able to use my X52 in a while but i remember installing the drivers and marvelling as my machine displayed a bsod for the first time in years. I just wanted to be able to put custom stuff on my little screen

I really like the MadCatz driver which I have never had any issues with besides the LED/MFD issue, but they went under so I'm not even sure you can download that one any more.

I could never figure out the mode change stuff, but at least my x52 works great! (so long as I always use the same USB)

Mike the TV posted:I could never figure out the mode change stuff, but at least my x52 works great! (so long as I always use the same USB) Oh it's great! I have mine set up for three configs: Flight, Combat, and Exploration so that buttons for each task get reassigned to more easily reachable areas (nearest target in combat becomes next system in exploration, for instance). But the best part is you can set up macros for each mode switch, so when I move the joystick to the combat mode, it deploys hardpoints and resets my distributor to it's kill mode.

Do you happen to have that config saved? I would absolutely love a copy if that's possible.

I haven't delved into the Commander Customiser much; the page for the Turncoat outfit pack https://www.frontierstore.net/game-extras/elite-dangerous-game-extras/turncoat-outfit-pack.html says This outfit pack grants a total of 6 outfits in a variety of colours with interchangeable sleeves, tops and legwear. If you own more than one outfit pack, can you exchange tops, arms and legs freely or can your commander only mix-and-match from one outfit set at once?

Is Steamcharts a accurate way to see how many people are playing the game? If so the playerbase seems very small. I keep waiting for ED to become more interesting, but if the average is ca 4000 people i don't understand how the game can be profitable long enough to warrant putting complicated content into it over the coming years.

It's ball-park:ley accurate:ish. Probably the right order of magnitude, at least. But since running ED through Steam rather than directly through its own launcher (that you can just install no matter where you bought the game) is a bit of a hassle, chances are that Steam's tracking misses out on a lot of people. And of course, console players are completely hidden from that method.

It's not Steam exclusive (I bought it from Frontier store), so the numbers might be higher. Edit: Dongattack posted:Ah okay, good good. Then there might be hope for more interesting content down the line. Dwesa fucked around with this message at 22:07 on Nov 28, 2017 |

Just updated ED for something to try out new Rift with whilst not having to stand up! My folder was much more than double 15Gb. Then I found all sorts of things in products folder that weren't "elite-dangerous-64" (started playing in original beta, never used Steam), deleted them, and it still all works with Horizons stuff - game is very SSD friendly compared to most: Now I have forgotten everything, have ships scattered everywhere, and no idea what I'm doing. And in VR. This should be fun again for a while.

Just FYI, I bought and installed ED for the first time this week, and my folder is only 16.5GB. The extra space is taken up by COMBAT_TUTORIAL_DEMO. Game's ok so far under the 10 hour mark. I'm just doing the training and... I assume that the default spacecraft is just intentionally a Ford Gremlin and not very fun to play around with. I'm having trouble just beating the advanced combat training. I have no idea what it'll take to grind to a better ship once I play the real game, hopefully not too punitive. I figure I'll fiddle around in single player, grind a bit and learn the basics, and sail away from the starting systems to avoid the inevitable players preying on noobs. I'll report back if it's fun enough to keep playing in open, maybe join the Diamond Frogs thread if that's still a thing.

There were lots of updates that duplicated game files instead of replacing them, especially around the time horizons came out. If you've had the game since launch and never messed with the files you probably have 50+ GB of wasted space being used.

The advanced combat training has not been updated to keep up with changes to the game and is now severely biased in favor of the AI. If you can beat the basic combat and understand navigation you're good to jump into the main game. quote:I have no idea what it'll take to grind to a better ship once I play the real game, hopefully not too punitive. Getting a *better* ship should come easily, getting a *good* ship will take somewhat longer, getting a top-of-the-line ship will take a stupendous amount of time and/or tedious grinding of carefully optimized routes.

I just bought an oculus on the Amazon cyber Monday sale so I am coming back to this game that, despite my best attempts to hate, I cannot put down. I’m pretty tech savvy about settings and poo poo like that but also brand new to VR. Any crucial settings or things I need to know for oculus to make it work well? Maybe a link to a guide if anyone knows a quality one for set up? Or maybe I’m lucky and it just sort of “works” out of the box?
