So PhotoPass isn't already part of paying for Genie+ at WDW like it is at DLR?

You can do per photo, or get the Memory Maker which is not cheap. However, if you're doing a long stay and/or have a lot of people with you, it's not a bad deal all things considered. Too bad they aren't including the photos from CMs in that.

I know it's a little thing but I'm actually pretty happy with them eliminating the parking fee. It was honestly a substantial pain point for me and my personal trips. It was a small fee that added up.

They could add a complimentary spit in the face by a CM everytime you scan into MK and people would still be lining up to get in. I wish epic universe could steal some crowds so I could have a more manageable trip one of these days.

On an average day, the Magic Kingdom alone sees more guests than all of Universal Orlando. For the last half-decade, Disney has almost seemed to be doing an experiment on how much they could take away from the guest experience while not lowering/still raising prices without their reputation faltering. They finally did find the breaking point and are correcting course. But they are still in no danger of Universal dethroning them, and Epic Universe won't do it either.

Disney Parks would have a long way to fall for Universal to win out. They're losing ground A LITTLE yes, but nothing that can't even be just park attrition. Most will find that Universal is a pleasant surprise if they like the franchises associated with it. Disney's gonna forever be timeless, as for myself and my family, my wife works for NBC/Universal/Comcast so we are a little bias and the prices are nothing to scoff at.

I prefer Universal simply because I grew up with those properties and they build fun rides. Sure, I watched Disney movies when I was a kid, but I never ever had that level of obsession with it. Certainly not enough to spend thousands of dollars on it.

If Universal were such a threat the parks would be a lot more comfortable to move around in. As it is they are so packed all the time, I can't believe that Universal is a threat Lucky for us Minions and Harry Potter are big negatives so we don't need to go to Universal any time soon

The Texas one is described as a "new concept for children with young families." At a glance, it looks more like Universal's going for that sweet sweet regional theme park money - and maybe trying to court people with a cheaper alternative than the Castle Parks - rather than trying to build a third destination per se. https://twitter.com/universalorl/status/1613226021066575896

I think the fifth image is wrong; it lists Runaway Railway as Magic Kingdom, should be under Hollywood Studios. The other thing about that list, the only Magic Kingdom updates were fireworks shows and Friendship Faire. Tron is definitely needed. But yeah, tons of stuff over the past six years at every other park.

Bottom Liner posted:Yeah, to say nothing of the pandemic and global supply chain shortages for critical components of high tech stuff like theme park rides. *Confused Velocicoaster Noises* Honestly Disney's cadence has been fine, but I think there's a very real issue with how they generate hype. Taking years to build a roller coaster is one thing - telling everyone to get excited and maintain that excitement for years is another. They're also somewhat indiscriminate about what they slow roll. Taking their time on Cosmic Rewind and Ratatouille is one thing, those are at the edges of the park. Tron has shut down the Railroad for an incredible amount of time, and the central spine of Epcot being a dirt pit for as long as it has is just plain rude. The slow rolling also hurt them there, because it forced massive changes in project scope, further hurting enthusiasm for the projects. Anyway lets talk about how hopefully we never have another new internal projection animatronic again. https://twitter.com/hkdlfantasy/status/1613755659320987649?s=46&t=IaBxWhgTaS3MbvFHTceIWg

I am torn on the internal projection animatronics. Stuff like Buzz Lightyear really worked well in the bright neon UV-washed cartooney environment, but the Frozen stuff is extremely not great.

A common theme IMO over the decades from doing a ton of Disney park history reading and watching the last few weeks is creating very ambitious concept art and projects but the massive scale of the projects take Disney so long that outside factors have almost always impacted those plans well before they’re even off the design table requiring even more time to scale back or rework an idea. And of course for some reason they have already announced this concept art and generated hype so by the time it’s cancelled or modified it pisses off everyone. Disney for the last decade for sure seems to be getting a bit better about this at least. The weirdest thing to me now is lack of cohesiveness with theming and very long term planning thought. Like Guardians in Epcot. You own marvel, at some point a marvel theme park or extension of Hollywood Studios makes total sense for your massive IP that lends itself very well to a huge set of rides. I’m amazed they didn’t future proof that final area some more. Maybe this was discussed ad nauseam in the past but some of those planning decisions really make me wonder what they’re thinking sometimes. Edit: I forgot there’s that weird east coast contract thing with universal marvel rides. I’m assuming Disney will buy that out or something at some point. The animatronics were such a weird brain moment for me when we visited. Part of me was amazed by how great and well done some of the older style characters were. They were very impressive but then a lot of the newer stuff must have been too close to the uncanny valley because my brain genuinely felt some of them didn’t look that great or were hitching slightly that made me weird about them.
