net work error posted:Interested in hearing what you did to the car and why you went out of street class. I drove in street class for about a year, The excitement wore off pretty quick. All the car did was understeer all day long. The car wasn't particularly competitive. I had heard increasing the size of the rear antisway was the way to go to fix a lot of the balancing issues, along with max camber on the stock suspension and toeing out the rear wheels. But that would make my car super twitchy all the time. This car is my daily driver. It needs to be somewhat easily adjustable between street and course. I first thought I just needed more tire, so I put 9.5 wheels and 265mm tires on thinking I could fit into Street Touring U. I had misread the rules and it actually put me in A Street Prepared. Wild cars compete up there so that had to change. I found that the intent of Street Touring X was for people who wanted to modify their cars, without having to go full hog on it. I was allowed to modify external engine components (intake, exhaust), suspension and brakes. So here's what I did: Cobb Big SF Intake Extreme Turbo Systems Turboback exhaust (catted, muffled, non resonated) Racecomp Engineering Tarmac 2 coilovers Mooresport adjustable top hats (front only) DBA 4000 rotors Ferodo DS2500 brake pads Stoptech stainless steel brake lines Motul RBF 600 DOT 4 brake fluid Bridgestone RE71R tires Cobb Accessport V3 with custom 93 octane tune by EFI Logics (tunes are allowed if the target boost level isn't altered) Since these modifications I haven't found another WRX or STI of the same generation who is faster that can drive their car to the event. I think the key here is the extreme flexibility Jamal and I have built. I have to adjust the dampers and camber, and switch the tires. The car in the course set up is very very twitchy for road use. Every bump yanks the steering wheel around. But for the course this is perfect. It's extremely responsive and the balance is perfect, with the rear of the car stepping out before the front. There are a few things I can still do like poly bushings, but they are permanent changes to the ride comfort so I have held off on them. I doubt I'll go much further. It has the perfect balance of road comfort and race response and I don't want to mess that up. um excuse me fucked around with this message at 18:46 on Oct 8, 2018 |

The manuals used to specify different oils for different conditions, including 20w50 as an option for "severe driving conditions." My general recommendations would be: non-turbo EJ: 5w30 or 5w40 turbo EJ: 5w40 non-turbo fa/fb: 0w20 or 5w20. Maybe 5w30 in the summer. turbo FA: 5w30 Synthetic always.

net work error posted:So before every event you adjust the dampers and camber and then set it back afterwards? That's correct. Camber adjustments require loosening 4 10mm bolts on top of the struts. That's the easy part. The dampers have a total of 8 locations, half under the car, so I just knock those out when the car is on stands when I change the tires. It takes about an hour total.

Charles posted:Do you have some mark so you know where to set it? The top hats do not have a sliding mount but rather a bunch of holes to positively retain the bolts so they can't come out of alignment. Just pick which holes you need for road and race use. Mine are actually polished from how many times I've changed it to and from each set up so I don't have to really check. The coilovers dampers have multiple manufacturer recommended settings based on a detented, clicking, dial on each end. You send the coilovers to full stiff and then back it off a certain amount of clicks dependent on usage.

What are some good recommended wiper blades for an 18 Crosstrek? The front blades that came with it don't seem to work too well, but the rear blade works well

I visited the toyota camry factory last week. Its down to 0w16 now. Just changed my 18 crosstrek and the 0w20 seems too thin, and smelled a little bit like gas. I thinking something a little thicker might be in order.

I've been running 10W40 in the EJ25D for like 150k/10 years now. It needs a little extra cushion when it's cold because of the piston slap imo. Plus it never really goes below 50F around here so I'm not worried about it turning to sludge when it's cold.

https://www.jmautomn.com Any experience with these Subaru tuners? My forester has an access port on it. Is there a good tutorial out there? I'm in MN is the 10w-40 oil sufficient for the -20 temps. The car will be stored inside. Some one local has an ej25 with a burnt valve for $900 and a 145k on the clock. Is it hard to replace the valve and seat or does a shop need to do it?

I swear by the cult of PIAA. I even went so far as to order a short insert and then cut it down some more to make my own rear wiper, because they don't have one for my hatch.

I like the icons a little more than rain-x, but the rain x blade wipers cost less. Been meaning to order some piaas since I can get those from a distributor but generally you discover you need wipers sooner rather than later and you go buy them from a store. (and if someone wants a set it looks like I'm fairly close to amazon's pricing)

Absolutely no brand wiper has worked well on the passenger side window of my 2012 Impreza. The only one that worked good came with the car. The glass has an odd curve to it or something.

Rain x latitudes were amazing on my impreza for ice, snow and rain. Are the bosch icons that much better than the insights? I've got insights right now and they're not as good as my old rain x wipers in any metric. I even returned a drivers side one because it wouldn't make contact with the top half of its arc. I wouldn't recommend the insights at all.

So, talk to me about the last gen WRX vs the current one. My 2011 is now 8 years old and starting to show age and the Series Gray is now hitting dealers which has an equipment combo that you can't normally get and is exactly what I want (Performance Package with LED headlights). Getting rid of the hatch is a major downside, but everything I hear is the new ones are a ton better to drive and despite the WRX not really being the best performing on the track out there, I still think it may be the best all rounder where I live.

Ehhhhh..... wouldnt exactly say the VA is better to drive. Better to live with would be my way to put - the 2011 hatch I would take for a thrash first for sure but the VA is a car that is much nicer to be in.

Yeah I can do that. The aluminum is like $100 more and it seems like the hdpe ones are fine and I assume people are using them without issue. Send me an email with your zip code and I'll get you an exact price. It's peter at functionauto.com

n8r posted:How screwed am I? The heads leak because they're cooled unevenly which eventually makes them warp and the gasket fails. They have to be machined flat before the gasket can be replaced or they'll leak again. I have no frame of reference for where on the engine that is. But if you aren't getting combustion gas into the coolant, causing the traditional overflow, it's probably not a critical repair.

It's leaking externally, but it's dripping a bit when parked and I have to keep an eye on the coolant level. The location is right at the furthest forward part of the oil pan. Just bummed because I paid to have it fixed once before.

After replacing the turbo inlet with a Mishimoto one and replacing the purge valve and replacing the wideband sensor the LGT still reads ~12.1 AFR during a third gear pull. I replaced the intercooler coupler with a Cobb one a few weeks before all this poo poo started because it was leaking. I wonder if it was leaking a little during the tune and it was tuned around the leak. But I would have thought they would have caught that during their inspection. The accessport reads 11.1 but I think it always does that during open loop. Gonna have a good local shop look at it.

drat, the dealer is actually being really aggressive on pricing and might honor the KBB instant trade in offer which is almost a grand more than I was hoping to get out of the car. $16.3k out the door (discounted car minus trade) on a Series Gray WRX. It may be too good to pass up.
