If only there were something that could be released to mark the occasion. Some sort of... I don't know... prototype, or fragment of the original development materials... Of course, any chance of that stuff being released was lost forever in the Great Legal Chicken Failure Of 2015, and everyone involved is either too busy salvaging an isometric trainwreck or violently hating each other to ever co-operate enough to pull anything out of the fires. Cool! Great! Sick, even!

You can't even buy the DOS version of Duke3D in digital anymore. Interesting times we're living in. So, hats off to Terminx, Plagman, JBlade and others who keep this poor game alive.

I was going to argue because it's in my GOG library but I guess it's not available there anymore. They don't even seem to have the Megaton Edition. I don't know why you'd want a digital version of the DOS-only Duke3D, considering Megadyptes posted:the Megaton Edition has an option to launch 'classic mode' which is just the game running through dosbox. in the gameroot/classic folder there's all the original game files. Personally I'm glad I no longer need to worry about putting my original Duke discs into my disc drive to install the game after cleaning my hard-drive (like I do that anymore anyways). Now I can just download it through Steam and get all the "official" TCs plus the original DOS version if I want to play that for some reason, and I can even copy-paste DUKE3D.GRP for eDuke32.

I remember screwing around with CON files for Duke with my friend Dan back in the day, and we'd always lamely joke around with the names of files. For Duke3D.GRP, it was 'Duke-Gurp', sometimes 'Doogurp'. It's just what we ended up always calling it, and I still call it that in my head. But what's ALSO weird is that, I think it was in the folder for Wolfenstein 3D, there was a file called 'VIDIOT', which made us laugh, so nice username there, my King. I also got a kick out of PIFMGR.dll from Windows 3.1. Can't beat good ol' 'Piffmigger Dill'.

I remember in 1999 setting the soundcard in setup.exe for the lowest quality one (Disney Sound Source?), so the main theme sounded like rawest metal tune possible, because back then I didn't like the smooth sound my SoundBlaster was outputting.

Probably not disney sound source, that was a glorified DAC plugged into the parallel port. AdLib?

Not sure, but I'll go and check tomorrow. Although I think SoundBlasters could emulate Covox/Sound Source for legacy reasons. Ah, the infinite joy of setting up sound cards via custom setup programs. https://youtu.be/q_A1GNx0M9M

What's the deal with version made with BUILD? Man, if they had made this a Diablo-clone with polish, they would have really had something here. Like an isometric Borderlands (which, of course, was a FPS Diablo). Oh, what could have been.

I'm surprised to see Bombshell's got checkpoint saves, given the grief they got when Rise of the Triad (which I had quite a bit of fun with, but was clearly a budget game made by about 3 people) shipped checkpoints-only saves originally, and they patched in quicksaves later after people complained.
