I've found myself enjoying the game on the whole, but there's one minor point that drives me right up the wall every time it comes up.

Every time somebody talks about the Angarans, the exact phrase 'free with their emotions' is used. Outside of Jaal himself, sometimes, that almost never seems actually show itself in how characters act. But everyone feels the need to weigh in on it using that same exact wording, including the Angarans themselves when if that were actually the case they would presumably consider themselves to be normal and milky way races to be unreadable, stoic weirdos.

Oh, goddamn it, you're right.

I think the series has always had that problem though, for instance with the salarians and asari talking about their lifespan and temperament in relation to humanity instead of treating us like we're the weird ones.

Well, the turians, batarians, quarians, drell, volus, and presumably elcor and hanar all have human-scale lifespans, so it makes sense that the general galactic talk would be "Asari and krogan live forever, salarians and vorcha die in a blink."

Especially since asari and salarians were the first species on the citadel, meaning they kind of set each other as extremes and the third species to show wound up as a compromise baseline.

I think you'll find the correct ordering is:

Lair of the Shadow Broker
The Rest of ME 2
ME 3 Multiplayer
ME:A When There Aren't Bugs
CItadel DLC
ME 3 Except the Ending
ME 1
ME:A When There Are Bugs or Crafting
ME3 Ending

I think Andromeda is a good game with a terrible UI that's just not what people were expecting. "Off-brand Star Trek focusing on a small crew of goofballs exploring the unknown lead by an inexperienced leader slowly growing into the role" isn't a description I associate with the original Mass Effect trilogy. It's different and I like it.

I'd like to remind you that the game opens with your ship running into an obstacle in deep space. Later you'll discover your father died making you the chosen Special One who can do the Special Thing. You will be opposed by a megalomaniacal villain with few lines and little characterization. The writing is terrible.

All I'm saying is that Mass Effect: Andromeda is not the best game released in the last month where you have to go to a place called Meridian to prevent a religious zealout from activating an ancient machine race that will destroy the world.

This is a pretty small part of the gaming experience, though. The most important writing in ME1, by comparison, was "enemies everywhere!"

Welp, finally got my PC fixed and I come back to this.... flaming pile of multiplayer trash

  • Extreme rubber banding movement
  • Horrible melee system (They even made the Krogan worse for some reason?)
  • All the starter weapons require an entire magazine to kill an enemy on Bronze.
  • Random crashes
  • Sync kills
  • Janky movement system: you get stuck jumping up walls or failing to ledge grab 50% of the time.
  • Player to Player collision feels like two pieces of velcro rubbing up against each other.
  • Factions don't even feel that balanced
  • Player Hosted games? Really? Have we not learned in the entirety of gaming history that this is a poo poo design decision if your game requires lightning reflexes?

ME3 Multiplayer had a lot of bad quirks, ME4 somehow failed to fix a single issue and only made things worse. (Why the gently caress did they remove the old Krogan Heavy Melee?)

Man, one GiantBomb review sure brought the slavering horde crawling out of hiding again. Like a gunshot on the Walking Dead.

Did anyone get some interesting psychological profiles on their Codex? My first playthrough originally mentioned that I preferred logical thinking and reasoned approaches, but later added a note saying that this was mostly only "in the field"; apparently, my responses in my downtime, with the crew, was more emotional and spontaneous.

My second playthrough, which I'd just started, said that Ryder liked to act professional and composed. It then amended that by saying that "actions speak louder than words" and that she was more prone to acting impulsive in the heat of the moment.

It's a cool little detail. I wonder what these summaries would be like for someone who strictly, stubbornly picked one response over the others.
