Pretty sure both are Hal Jordan.

The thing with Hal Jordan is that when he was well written his entire thing is that he was "a man without fear and with incredible willpower' which it turns out also translated into him being kind of an idiot and an rear end in a top hat, but that was like the intentional reading. He has the world's most powerful weapon and the conflict was that it was in the hands of a man with a good heart but who was honestly kind of a shitbird. And that was interesting and him being flawed and failing and doing poo poo like "accidentally slips in the shower during an emergency, forcing John Stewart to take over for him" was part of the appeal of the character. And then Geoff Johns came along and spent entirely too long making him the coolest smartest and best in a way that devalued every aspect of the character.

And it isn't the only character he did that to. Barry Allen, the original Flash, was kind of dull. He wasn't awful but he wasn't super great either and his death in Infinite Crisis meant they could open up the path for Wally West, who is the Flash most people think of now in personality if not in name. He was kind of arrogant and goofy and a bit of a dumbass and his immense power was tempered by his flaws and he was genuinely popular. Except Geoff Johns went "He isn't the same generic white man I read about as a child" and wrote a terrible story bringing him back as the FOR REAL FLASH while crapping over all the replacement Flashes. Only it turned out nobody gave a shiiiiit about Barry Allen or had any ideas for him so what they gradually did was just graft Wally West's traits onto Barry, to the point where a good chunk of Barry Allen stuff outside of the comics itself is just someone writing Wally West and calling him Barry Allen.

And I'll stand by "replace all the new characters with their older, more boring, and whiter counterparts" being a dumb marketing move that stopped any sense of progression in the DC universe dead in the water.

It's so infested with supervillains that they kinda cancel out.

Also yeah a lot of problems come down to Geoff Johns having the worst mix of wanting to revert comics to his childhood memories but also making a half-assed diversity push, resulting in things like putting Cyborg on the Justice League and giving him literally nothing to do.

It's a horror con. Horror conventions are smaller, more intimate, and have more niche guests. Horror actors, directors, effects artists ect. I've been to one and it was cool kinda, but small. No one was evil there though.

But if you read the comments on Facebook page, people are so excited because clearly she's a star on the level you would pay to get autographs from. I'm kind of surprised Disney hasn't dropped a brick.down that, you think, they would have some issues about her making money off of their licensed characters when they gave her the boot.

Reminder Johns came up with a load of color-coded Lanterns that even got a cartoon, it was a license to print money but someone at DC or WB put the kibosh on it because, or so the rumor says, too many girls were into the cartoon thus the action figures didn’t sell well. *stares at the camera in Super Sentai/Power Rangers*

The GL movie failing also killed the GL cartoon. They didn't have shelf space for the cartoon toys when the movie toys were still clogging the inventory years after its release.

Contrast this with Transformers which can have toys for a new movie, a current cartoon, a movie from 40 years ago, a movie from 15 years ago and a cartoon from 20 years ago being sold together.

My favorite was Larfleeze, the Orange Lantern of Avarice. It made him an uncontrollable agent of greed that believed that everything in the universe was begging him to acquire it. And there was only ever 1 ring for obvious reasons. I actually really like the Emotional Spectrum and their various Lantern Corps as a comic book concept.

Technically there's a lot of rings, and they've possibly against Larfleeze's will 'deputised' some characters at points (including Lex Luthor) but usually they're just laying in Larfleeze's hoard.

Definitely one of those fun concepts that deserves some actual competent writers exploring it, Geoff Johns seems to at least come up with or sign off on some good ideas but then has so many stubborn hangups and refuses to let them actually develop. Doesn't help a lot of comic writers are just as bad, I heard one writer openly hated all the non human looking characters and kept trying to kill them all off, which is a bit of a problem when that's pretty much literally every supporting character many of which are fan favourites.

Yeah, I want to say that the alien characters ended up being a complaint about the movie, but I thought Oa was one of the few things they did well and they should have spent more time there. Michael Clarke Duncan and Mark Strong were inspired casting and completely wasted.

Oh poo poo, this isn't the movie thread. Sorry to continue the derail.
