Is it really growing though? I see more reports, but I'm also paying more attention. Longitudinal data would be helpful.

I'm getting concerned that the Republicans know something we don't. I can't see them pushing this poo poo so hard in the face of almost everyone if they didn't know they wouldn't be facing any sort of electoral retribution for it.

I can. They know that if they make it law, then they can just filibuster to death any attempts to undo it when Democrats take back power.

You assume that there's some coordinated long-term strategy at work. I don't. I think their whole ethos is "if it feels good and is more money for us, gently caress you".

Filibuster is dead it's just a matter of who pulls the trigger. I think both parties know at this point they can't let Senate rules (especially ones the majority can just ignore or change) get in the way of legislation anymore since voters don't give a poo poo about that lame excuse.

The easiest thing would just be to pass the lovely House AHCA which satisfied the evil maniacs they have there. Why the "sensible" Senate is possibly changing it to make it have an even worse CBO score is mind boggling.

Being able to get permanent tax cuts through is what they're going for, not this 10 year poo poo. Sure they'll suffer short term for it, but long term they stand to gain, since dems will have to increase taxes which is a death sentence in congress. I don't know how the future loving up healthcare in the US will work out for them though, that stink is probably not going to be merely short term.

GOP considers cancelling August recess to salvage agenda

I'm sure the idea of skipping the August recess seems appealing to many senators. They don't have to go home and face the potential embarrassment of being yelled at during town halls, they get to say they're working extra hard when they're up for reelection, and they get more time to pass their horrible bill.

I was there when it happened. We were trying to help an old man who was laying on the floor. This big van came and went over all of us. I think at least eight or ten people got injured. Luckily I managed to escape.

Then the guy came out from his van… I managed to get him on the floor. I was holding him… and, even before that, he was screaming, “I’m going to kill all Muslims, I’m going to kill all Muslims.

From that article

quote:

The father had been arrested for DUI on New Year’s Day in 2010. He had also been arrested on August 1 of last year for making unwelcome advances on a woman with an asbestos abatement crew in the same public bathhouse under renovation at a Long Island Beach where the father was working construction.
The father would later insist he only pled guilty to a misdemeanor unlawful imprisonment on January 10, 2017 because he was advised to do otherwise risked conviction of a crime that would get him deported with potentially deadly consequences for his son. The father admitted in court to kissing the woman and briefly keeping her from getting away. He served 75 days and figured that would be that and he would resume his life with his son.

Sounds like a sexual assault that thankfully never got off the ground. Screw that guy it's a shame about his son but dude doesn't need to be in country.

Unlike in America where only certain people can be terrorists it sounds like the police already consider the van attack a terrorist act and it's widely being reported as such so it will be somewhat harder for the right wing to just frame it as a totally weird thing that has no significance whatsoever (not that they won't anyway).

Also, no one has really been reporting on it, but there's about to be a hurricane in the southwestern part of the Gulf of Mexico that's predicted to head straight north into Texas/Louisiana/Mexico. Trump has no appointments for FEMA and the National Weather Service.

I honestly think it might be they know their reelection chances are either super hosed already or 100% guaranteed, so in the case of the former might as well pass something that might get them wingnut welfare after they get booted.
