Reminds me of my favorite economics paper. It's titled, "Japans Philips Curve Looks Like Japan." http://qed.econ.queensu.ca/working_papers/papers/qed_wp_1083.pdf

Mr. Fix It posted:lol, what's the rationale for the uptick from 2025? Going to wager that the proposed healthcare measures have some onerous provision that kicks in immediately after the latest possible date of a Trump presidency. That way it both looks like "they're doing something" but the actual provision coming into effect happens on somebody else's watch, and is thus that person's fault. Politics, basically.

"Are you lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgender?" "What? No. Who the hell are you? Get out of my cubicle. Linda! Where are the Sanderson files? We need them by close today!" "Are you comfortable describing yourself as lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgender in the workplace?" "What? Sure, whatever, I don't care, just get the gently caress out of my cubical. Jesus. Lindaaa!!" "I'll just mark that as C."

They knew that people who had no business responding to the poll were going to want to have their say, dammit, so they put in some extra answers just for them.

flatluigi posted:Not to interrupt your fanfiction but that's a twitter poll well yea. idk about the fanfic but that poll is bad. there's like two possibilities for its origin, pretty much. a: the economist literally do not understand what lgbt means b: they do understand, but prefer to make jokes based on weird assumptions & perpetuate same cmon man

I sort of interpreted it as "I would be comfortable coming out as LGBT at work if I was part of that group." but I don't think I could really make that call as someone who doesn't fit that description.

drat, yeah, that kinda makes sense. The most terrible way to put it though, its p much "are you comfortable weirdly lying about your sexuality" you know?

Presumably that's a major reason why we don't have them yet. Aside from airborne nanomachines already being ridiculously hard to make.

Definitly couldn't get a 20,000mAh backup battery for $20 5 years ago. I don't think they even really existed till a few years ago and now they're sold cheap on Amazon.

Outrail posted:That's not an unrealistic projection is it? Yeah it is. HDD growth is definitely slowing. We got a quadrupling between 2009 (2 TB) and 2014 (8 TB). There is talk of 16 TB next year. A 32 TB drive for $150 is pretty unlikely in 2020, let alone a 200 TB model. fakeedit: They use “Tb”, though. Note the minuscule lettering. That might just be possible, but I’d bet against it selling for $150.
