There were four status-altering items in the original Kirby's Dreamland. The spicy curry, which made you spit fireballs. That's become the Fire ability. The one-time use Mike, if you spat it out, all enemies on screen died, It became the Mike ability. The invincibility candy which still exists. And the final one was the Mint Leaf (which apparently was a Sweet Potato in Japan) which forced you into puffed-up flying mode and made you produce air puffs constantly. I don't think there's ever been any ability replicating the Mint Leaf. Correct me if I'm wrong. Carbon dioxide fucked around with this message at 22:18 on Dec 4, 2014 |

It's basically similar to the Dream Wand, or any of the other abilities given to Kirby whenever the game turns into a scrolling shmup. But so far as I know it's never been imitated as a non-plot ability, no.

I played the poo poo out of Dreamland, and actually kind of don't like all the abilities. The old-school gameplay was much more interesting than the new-fangled "regretting that ability switch" stuff.

Endless Explosions is a scary land and I agree that Kirby needs to relax before venturing there. Also I actually really love fighting bosses without any power. I always make it a point to fight the final boss of Kirby games without a power if possible.

In terms of bosses I felt Coily rattler was the only one off in Triple deluxe, don't get me wrong, the fights good, but I felt design wise he'd better be suited in a Donkey kong game, Same thing with Acro and the Yeti thing from Returns to dreamland.

Silver keychains are, as far as I know, completely random, with any given silver keychain having an equal chance of appearing. This can make finding all of them somewhat time-consuming. Also, challenges accepted, but they will be handled after completion of the story. I'll add a challenge-tracker to the OP so I can't pretend like I forgot when I find out one of them is super hard.

Every time medibot says Cobra house I think of the Cobra Kais from Karate Kid. Shame Kirby can't sweep the leg. On another note, I'm actually surprised at how well this game uses the 3ds' gimmicks. Simplicity is best for things like the gyroscope and the 3d functions.

I am pretty certain that the cute little cannon level at about 32:40 is referencing Kirby's Block Ball? I played way too much of that game as a kid and the design of that particular back'n'forth room is really really similar. Truly this beanstalk has risen up some wondrous lands. Explosions on a beanstalk? How frightening.

So Medibot mentioned sand in video games generally being pretty unpleasant. I would say he sort of has a point, because while sand levels are rarely anywhere near as bad as ice levels, they tend to be fans of hitting you pretty hard. But I started thinking about this, and I'm wondering, is there any stage theme in video games that's routinely good, like the counter to the Ice World always being crap? I'd think the best I can present is the 'green fields and/or forest' levels, which tend to be pretty inoffensive. And while I personally haven't met a machine/factory-based stage that I didn't like, that might be personal bias.

I would say he sort of has a point, because while sand levels are rarely anywhere near as bad as ice levels, they tend to be fans of hitting you pretty hard. While ice levels are usually displeasing due to their commonly reduced friction, the reads for sand levels are different depending on the genre or game style. In a platformer like Kirby's Dreamland 3, I disliked World 3 for sand that reduced Kirby's running speed, which was terrible given how pacing-dependent the overall game was. Elsewhere in a lot of RPGs, desert maps tend to be infinitely looping on multiple axises, which lends to its own problems. In Zelda in particular, I always disliked sand for its excuse of infinitely-spawning Leevers. Every sand level is unique in what makes it terrible. Perhaps that's part of the appeal... As far as good levels go, Kirby has set the standard pretty well with the Bubbly Clouds archtype. I've always found those kinds of levels enjoyable -- even that one time Zelda did it on the GBA with Cloud Tops and the Palace of Winds, which was probably my favourite level in any one Zelda game. Beach levels are also pretty interesting, or at least the ones which mix elements of water and land equally throughout. More likely the one thing preventing Mirror from happening again is the way damage is calculated within the system. Objects and projectiles need to be made in a very specific way in order for their attacks to be reflected. But, even if that were presupposed, my guess is Mirror still wouldn't be that useful; as in Super Star, Mirror was only made available in the levels where the enemies used a lot of projectile attacks, or used melee attacks that the engine interpreted as projectiles. The enemies we've seen so far in Triple Deluxe are more likely to attempt more regular melee attacks, or to just crash into you. Mirror would be quite weak in these circumstances.

In addition to slamming things into the screen, including Kirby as I've mentioned before, the 3D is used to give objects being looked at head on depth. This makes the Drawcia fight easier as the real balls/spike-rods will gain dimension before the attack while the fake will stay flat.
