Doesn't seem anything like the draft profiles which seemed VERY insistent that he did not have the experience or the skills and would be a project. I really wonder why that might be...

I think the worry about his passing game was real and not a terrible thing to worry about.

A large part of this is because he was a Petrino quarterback and those haven't translated well to the league at all because they aren't asked to make a lot of reads in college. Just one of those things you don't know whether it will work out until you actually get to work with the player.

I remember Watson being very inaccurate in College. Like every Clemson game I saw with him starting had his wideouts bailing him out all game. Then he got to Houston and those problems were basically just gone, poof. Watson was the main reason I was so optimistic about Lamar being able to eventually fix his accuracy issues.

I think Mitch is basically the new Tim couch - coaches didn't realize how the prospects playstyle/system inflated his stats

For couch it was early spread offense making his numbers obscene. For Mitch it was never , ever making tough throws or going through progressions, so he had very few ints and also that 38 yard passing game against Virginia tech that actually presaged his pro abilities. When guys aren't wide open, like the tb game last year or Taylor gabriel this week, he won't throw to them out of fear

Poor Tim Couch being slandered in 2019.

I don't know if he'd have ever been good, but man he had a better chance to be good somewhere else.

This, uh, does not seem to be the case for Mitch to me. Sorry Mitchell. Insisting on the Mitchell thing might be the biggest red flag.

Bullshit. Tim Couch actually showed some talent and was deeply let down by a weak roster on the new look Browns. Trubisky is the new Kyle Boller and I'll hear no argument to the contrary. In passing drills he'll look like a god, in 7 on 7 he looks passable, and in a game he'll look like Mitch Trubisky. His pea brain can't handle the strain of the real game.

I legitimately wanted Watson in that draft because he's a baller but I was also shook off the notion that no QB throwing under 55mph at the combine has ever ever ever been good in the NFL. Watson only threw 50mph.

In retrospect it seems dumb.

Fumbles aren't "bad and should be punished" any more than a tipped pass: both are opportunities for the defense to force a turnover, but neither are awarded to the defense by default. If it goes out of bounds, the defense didn't earn poo poo, and gently caress 'em for failing to recover the ball in-bounds.

Hopkins bailed Watson out a lot his rookie year. He's developed amazingly

And it's justified fear, because he's not capable of fitting balls into tight windows. Sometimes I wonder if those squinty eyes even allow him to see properly

That's true, he's improved dramatically. But even the day he first took a snap he was already better than a lot of guys. Remember that crazy duel between him and Russell Wilson in 2017? What a game that was

What world do you live in where a guy dropping a ball or having a ball punched out that he’s trying his hardest to hold on to is the same the ball being tipped in the air?

The Watson Mahomes thing is going to be around for a while. Watson is a hell of an athlete but can't sling it anywhere near as well as Mahomes off balance. They both appear to be really football smart. Mahomes has about every advantage I can think of over Watson minus Hopkins but Deshaun is more than holding his own.

This is going to be a fun football thing to watch over the next few years and we should move either the Chiefs or Texans so they're in the same division.

this is my Deshaun Watson story hope y'all liked it

The part where the defense should(n't) get it automatically just because the ball is loose. Regardless of where it happens on the field.

I figured that was pretty obvious from my post.

EDIT: in case that still isn't clear: every single other kind of turnover is the result of the defense recovering a live ball, or successfully stopping a drive by turnover on downs.

The ball squirting out the end zone is neither of those things, and shouldn't change possession.

The only time it was funny was when John Fox challenged for a TD and ended up 'winning' the challenge because it was a turnover instead.

Every other time is just :smith: in the form of a football play.

The NFCE has not been the best division in football in a while, and no one has said they are this year. The NFCE has three crappy teams and Washington just trying their hardest to be a real football team.

The cowboys are just the current king clown.
