It makes sense as a proof of concept level but at the same time it would make for a strange map since you know walking in that it's not a fight.

It would be interesting to have a swatting mode randomly assigned to maps though as a trap to dipshits who just shoot through doors at anyone standing, which I presume people still do.

That's kind of what I assume it'll be, he might shoot, he might not.

Yeah it has potential to be a mid-stakes mission that can go many ways. I'm just worried it is yet another one MEGA CHILD PORN KIDNAPPING ALIEN RING WITH ARMED GUARDS IN BODY ARMOR AND WE WILL SEND A FIVE MAN TEAM AND NO MORE.

The CP references are in most other maps and it is about the overarching theme of this very bad criminal group in Los Suenos.

It has been a year since anything significant has been even announced for this game but here's some brand new news.

Thank you for joining us for the 63rd edition of our biweekly development briefing, November 3rd, 2023!

Today, we want to go in-depth on what you can expect from the game's campaign mode and narrative. The main focal point of these changes is what's known as "Commander Mode," the name of our new campaign mode that brings with it countless new immersive features. In Los Sueños, how you enter the ‘fatal funnel’ of each door will seal your fate and that of those around you.

Some of the elements from Commander Mode that we will cover are the progressive mission unlocks, permadeath, roster system, behavioral traits, officer therapy, and HQ expansion/functionality.

In the second section of this briefing, we will also detail progress on our narrative techniques such as briefing messages, 'on-call' officers, interactive audio device storytelling, novel tools for storytelling such as modular vehicle license plates, and the accompaniment of auxiliary in-game organizations.

Throughout this briefing you will see media that portrays the various topics we discuss!

Please keep in mind that the development content depicted in this briefing is a work in progress and may be subject to change in the game’s final state.

Vol.63 Development Briefing summary points:
(not a changelog)
Missions for Single Player unlock one after another in order of completion
Single Player playthroughs will have permadeath for each of your officers
In Ironman mode, your save will be deleted if you die
There will be a large amount of unique behavioral traits for the officers in your long potential roster which will each impact the gameplay style of your team
Mission conduct outcome will affect the mental health of your officers, unbearable levels of stress causing them to quit or worse
Over 5 new areas in the station with revamped existing areas such as the firing range and shoot house
At least one unique briefing per mission that can take various formats, along with the extensive role that your tactical tablet plays for most mission information
30-40 new interactable audio narrative devices added to the game.
Modular license plates on vehicles that allow us to easily customize all aspects of them during development to fit the sort of characters in each mission
A description of some of the federal law enforcement organizations present in the narrative, including DETE (Drug Enforcement Tactical Element), FISA (Federal Investigation and Security Agency), the Marshals, and the Park Service.
Teaser conclusion

It's almost hinting at old school Rainbow Six. And some sort of linking narrative is all I want, so hopefully the campaign does that.

There's hints of 1.0 dropping very soon, Reddit seems pretty convinced of it. It should be a huge patch in any case.

Certainly seems that way, as I got an email to have my name in the credits for being an early supporter. Which does look like they are putting the final bits in place.

13th for 1.0, it turns out. Fairly big laundry list of features; a single-player campaign with a rework of squad AI and command system as well as officer mental states and permadeath of officers, including yourself in ironman mode, several new weapons, several weapon remodels and audio revamps, suspect and civilian AI updates including audio reactivity, audio revamp to use physically-based audio as opposed to straight line sources, four (five? unsure) new maps and reworks of at least three old ones, bullet pen rework. Probably a couple other things I'm forgetting.

Game turned out pretty good, it's a pretty worthy SWAT 4 successor unless they somehow fumble it hard at the finish line.

Now, when they say "permadeath of officers" what does that actually mean?
Do they get replaced and you lose some kind of progression? Or do you have to attempt subsequent missions with fewer team members?

Discendo Vox

This does not make sense when, again, aggregate indicia also indicate improvements. The belief that things are worse is false. It remains false.

When you play the mission again, you get a chance to regain their equipment if you can defeat the ghost officer that spawns at their point of death.

I don't think they've been overly specific beyond "if they died they're dead" and "if their mental state is bad they can quit the force."

I assume you have a limited roster with which to complete all the missions if dudes keep getting got? They unlock in a specific order and you need to complete them all to beat campaign mode and despite it being a fictitious American city I imagine there is a limited amount of cops available.

Pretty impressed at how much has been added and updated. Noticed it being a bit of an fps drop here and there but this feels like a proper swat game now and was worth the wait and the cop AI is MUCH better.

The atrium in the apartment level is brutal. Having to retry that one a few times, might lob gas around to stop getting hit on the stairs.

Yeah they've changed a lot about how things flow, I like it a lot. The AI teammates are a lot more proactive and allow you to blow through maps fairly quickly without having to stop and manually order them to tie people up or collect evidence. I am getting a lot more stuttering though.

Don't go in through the front atrium, go right as you start and go through the door in the fence to access the side stairwell that leads to the server farm.

Been pretty cool to see maps like Gas evolve throughout the life cycle of development too. Even at 1.0 there are some differences here and there. Been keen to see how other familiar maps the past few years have been updated.

I'm having a lot of fun rediscovering all those maps I last played like a year ago. drat the tunnels under the meth lab are scarier than ever.

That said, I do have a weird bug where occasionally mouse inputs don't seem to want to register. Similarly, I've got my mouse screen flickering up on the edges of the screen on occasion. Anybody happen to know of a way of dealing with that?

Yeah normally the weird compulsive writing on walls is pretty dumb but I like that one where is explains why this random house has a tunnel complex, some guys are tweaked out of their minds and digging holes as a form of psychosis.

Also I saw the tunnels branching out everywhere and said gently caress that. Command wheel, "gold, search room", it's called "delegation".

What is everyone running for headgear? On dark maps I sometimes do NVG but nine times out of ten it's gas masks since CS gas works so well. It is just annoying that it turns all the yells and random conversations into mmphm mmphm mmmphm. I use subtitles so it isn't that big of a deal but it's still annoying.

It would be funny if gas masks reduced the effectiveness of your shouted commands because the crims can't hear you as well.

Every single map is a sprawling maze while you're alloted five cops total, including yourself. It's ridiculous, and the single most aggravating thing about a game that I believe to have a good heart. Multiplayer with the party mod is great because when you have 7 or 9 goons, it starts getting way more manageable with directions and securing criminals and other actions.

The drat meth map is a city block. Criminals can run outside with guns after my team passes because apparently nobody secures the outside. Instead of sending guys to the therapist in this, we need to give the therapist a gun and use them as a drat reinforcement or something.

I see 10+ people hanging around the station. I need all those guys and gals to take a shotgun and body armor and come to Brisa Cove to make sure that 20 doors don't open at the same time and have a platoon of hostiles converging on our tiny swat team.

This is my biggest immersion killer, and also main frustration in the game.
By the time the door traps are blowing off, it gets ridiculous.

I didn’t mind it so much from a balance perspective, more of an immersion and variety sort of thing. It’s more fun to replay maps on what is basically t-hunt when how you approach an area can change game to game. Too many of the maps felt like they had super arbitrary lanes or were just series of branching paths and you just end up moving through those the same way every time which gets old after a round or two. The gas station and crack house were definitely my favorites because they felt the most open in how you can approach them.

I think it has been altered so that crims will now only flee a short distance to set up an ambush, but a lot of the issue with the more open maps is that a crim would see you coming and run, and if you didn't door wedge half the building then they would run all over the place, which meant you had to go find them again. It wasn't necessarily *hard*, since you knew there was only one guy left, but it was *very* tedious.

They have done something to the suspect AI since prerelease, because these guys are loving absurd.
Every single suspect has lightning fast reactions, nearly flawless accuracy, and shrugs off four rifle rounds to the knees. They almost universally immediately open fire on the police with automatic weapons, even when they're textually supposed to be some punk kids who robbed a gas station.
As for the idea of even considering nonlethal weapons, hah!
You go into what is supposed to be "some kid with a gun may have shot his mom but is probably being swatted" and the building is filled with a dozen armed men, roaming the atrium with sub-machineguns?!
I completed every mission in the game except the vineyard in the prerelease version, but after about twenty rounds on Brisca Cove I think I'm done with this.
