As far as I saw he did not buy a ticket and I didn't really see him chatting too much but he was on the other room so idk maybe he did. I did not get a chance to talk to him at all. It's weird, he's real thirsty for our endorsement and we are still nothing at all locally so even if he gets our endorsement we can't even offer him poo poo, we're enough to maybe canvas a single neighborhood. Jaffe was at a general meeting where we all voted to not even CONSIDER supporting him and still decided to join, maybe he just likes the DSA?

quote:In a note titled "The Silent Road to Serfdom: Why Passive Investing is Worse Than Marxism," a team led by Head of Global Quantitative and European Equity Strategy Inigo Fraser-Jenkins, says that politicians and regulators need to be cognizant of the social case for active management in the investment industry. There is something fishy going on when the average person (rather than the idle rich) can just let the money ride the market mindlessly and at low cost and, if capitalism is swell and dandy, "make" money in the long run. This awfully seems like rent seeking for the middle class. No longer do you need to spend a day each month diligently doing Benjamin Graham-style investment analysis. Now you can make money without deciding where capital should be allocated, removing illusion that investing means making the market "efficient." Of course, passive investing does nothing for the workers who don't have the money to invest, even in a 401K. Plus, REITs are nasty because they can only drive housing prices higher, especially for the poor, by seeking actual rents.

Anyone see the DSA Momentum slate running for NPC? Supposedly all Left Caucus folks. Curious what everyone thinks They advertise as being behind the Spring Platform, but the two people from NYC (in this slate) at least are part of the lovely clique of people I liked Spring Platform as a counterweight to, so I don't really know what to think anymore.

I know Jared Abbott. He's good - driven, dedicated, and idealistic without being unrealistic. He has an ideology but he's not ideological - his ideology yields to his observations, rather than vice versa. I respect him highly. I don't know anything about the rest of them.
